Hi everyone,

First of all, apologies if this was answered recently, I did do a search and it didn't yield anything.

I've got the situation where a boulder separates two opposing units. Looking directly at the scene its obvious they are within 12 inches
and they could charge BUT the charging unit has no line of sight.

Can I still charge if i have no line of sight, and please can you also comment if Overwatch subsequently will play out differently?

Please only reply if you're 100 % percent sure lol, 17 different responses will not help LOL

Regards

O

Yes, you can charge. Charge rules don’t require LOS.

Thanks mate, you seem dead certain when you say it like that.

What am i missing? Is this clarified in the errata or a page in the core book?

Is Overwatch played out as per normal in this instance?

Overwatch still needs Line of Sight because it uses the rules for shooting. You also need to be in range, so if you are charged from 8.1" away, you can't fire flamers, for example.

It doesn't edit: Shouldn't, but it is in the Designers Commentary, need to be clarified in an errata or FAQ because it's clear how the core rules work. The rules give you permission to charge, with no restriction on Line of Sight. You'd have to show a rule saying you do need line of sight to counteract that, like you can for Overwatch (i.e. the basic rules for shooting).

Remember, the rules are permissive. They tell you what you are permitted to do to begin with, then layer restrictions on top of that.

You can declare a charge because the only requirement is that you are within 12". No LoS requirement is listed.

Overwatch however follows normal shooting rules and requires LoS. Therefor if you are out of LoS when you declare the charge the enemy cannot overwatch. (unless they have weapons that dont need LoS).

From the Designer's Commentary:

Q: Can you declare charges against units that are not visible to the charging unit?

A: Yes.

Note however that the unit being charged still obeys the normal rules for targeting when it fires Overwatch, and so, if a model cannot see the charging unit, it will not be able to fire Overwatch.
