I have two questions regarding the malcador
A) is it good enough finally to be played in a friendly to semi competitive matches?
B) has anyone experience with magnetising / decent loadout suggestions?

It is trash. A LRBT out-guns it for half the price. Codex power creep strikes again. But hey, you can proxy it as a LRBT?

They got lumbering advance, basically grinding advance, and are somehow faster movement wise and way more durable now.
I guess rof wise they still suck but i just love the look and idea of a fast light superheavy tank.

The Defender seems decent. A few more wounds than a LRBT, faster, and a feth-load of bolter shots.

Yeah, I think the Defender is the only one thats moderately useful... The others are cool, but not usually worth it. Or at least, thats what it seems like, never tried them.

Defender atm has 8 turret heavy bolters, that are 24 shots, if it advances half movement then that doubles.
It is fairly impressive actually still on the pricier end but certainly workable.

Uh, what? The Malcador tanks do not have the "double shots at half movement or less" rule that LRBTs have. This is why they are trash.

Fairly certain they gained that in a FAQ.

You're only seeing half of it. The FAQ changes the "grinding advance" rule on FW LRBTs to match how codex LRBTs changed from the index, but that change does not apply to the Malcador tanks. Then the next entry changes the Malcador's "grinding advance" rule to be re-named "lumbering advance", maintaining its original text and separating it from the LRBT rule that shared its old name.

Wellp, that makes them significantly worse then i guess. Atleast they ignore - bs modification though....

I haven't played guard in a while but i think this advice i will give is sorta fair. It depends who you play against. If you play a newbie that's just started maybe playing a crappy list is ok. Generally taking your best list with top tier souped lists is considered very unfair to newbies.
If you play against nothing but competitive players you may want to change things around to the best you can bring.

Taking a Malcador Defender as Mordians and using the Defensive Gunners stratagem to overwatch on 3+ might be amusing, but still doesn't seem very competitive.
I really like the looks of the Malcador Defender, and it seems like it would fit in great fluff-wise with the Renegades & Heretics supporting my Iron Warriors, but dang they are expensive in terms of both points and money.

Not nearly as expensive as a full earthshaker battery.
I find the pricing on the bigger artillery pieces highly random, especially when you've seen one and can compare it to other modells that size regardless of FW/ GW.

Yeah, the prices of most Forge World towed artillery are completely bonkers. Earthshakers not only are relatively small in terms of size, but they also seem like they would be an inexpensive sculpt to make. Normally I'm willing to pay FW, because I want to support them for making models and rules, but I just can't justify those artillery pieces. I'd like artillery batteries for narrative games. I'll probably make them from Basilisks.
Some of their bigger Ork gunz aren't too badly priced, but on the other hand the GW plastic Mek Gun is expensive for its size.
