First attempt at scions, it lacks the plasma squad for them but points was its a bit tight. and I wanted at least 1 squad to be expendable for blocking advances or leaving on out of the way objectives.
- Primes move around attacking enemy armour
- Valkyrie and melta gun squad go after the biggest toughest thing.
- Grenade squad is for blocking/suicide/ dropping on loose objectives
- Vollyguns/command/HQS thinking they can bunch up on where ever the enemies infantry is that needs to be pushed back

If you're set on the Valkyrie then rearrange to fit 2 melta squads to embark.
Otherwise skip the Valkyrie and take plasma command squads instead, plasma just does melta better for scions in my view.

Without looking in to points in detail something like this with the Valk.

HQ
Prime Chainsword/Bolt pistol, Command Rod, Grand Strategist, Kurov's Aquila
Prime Chainsword/Bolt pistol, Command Rod

Troops

If you can free up some points somewhere it may be good to think about swapping the Valk for a Punisher Vulture.

Taking the Lord Commissar and/or the Valkyries, kills your regimental doctrine, so you might want to either nix them, or stick them in a separate detachment of some kind.

Pg132 i think covers that you can take them without breaking the doctrine. Unless theres a faq ive missed?

No the problem is that the scion doctrine has a specific line that says: ALL units must be Scions in order to get the stormtrooper bonus. It is not really a regimental doctrine and way more specific.
Auxilia just ignores regimental doctrines, which is the problem. Granted there is a discussion raging in the forum atm somewhere so you might want to go there.

GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.

Yes, this interaction is something that many people need to send into GW support about, so we may get a clarification in the next FAQ, hopefully.
Or, ask about specific Auxillia units Scions might get. Didn’t Valkyries used to be Scion bread and butter?

If the truth can destroy it, then it deserves to be destroyed.

They did yea, they used to sell an army box with scions and the valk together. Also the start collecting box comes with a commissar.

I understand from what you guys have said above that RAW there's a contention, I just really don't think they intended for them to be excluded though...

I believe the Commissar is in the box there due to it being allowed under a previous version of the game; and you can play them together, just not with the doctrine.

Though I agree it should not be that way and you should be allowed him, and still get a doctrine; but alas how I wish it to be is not how it is.

You can still play it the way you have it, without the doctrine; or swap the Commissar for a Prime, and put the Valk in an auxiliary support det.

Everyone i know have ever only read it as non-regiments are allowed for Tempestus while keeping the doctrine.

Otherwise double Scion battalion would not work without ditching the doctrine due to rule of tree.

So yeah people read too much into those statements.

The box is still from the last edition. That is not an argument. Also scions were one of the reasons for the rule of three (cough plasma scions cough)

No, T'au commanders and Assassins where the main reasons. Scions got changed before that with a rule saying 1 Command squad per Prime, then rule of tree came and further nerfed Scions.
