This list is meant to be a tournament prep list. I cannot dedicate myself an entire day or two to a tournament, so I am at least trying to help others prepare. I want to bring something tough to deal with.

This is the list I have right now. I am struggling with the last 200 points. Not sure if I am a fan of having Voldus or not in this list. He is a good take all comers model, but is he the best last 200ish points spent?

CP total:12 – 2 (for knight warden setup) = 10 CP at start

Battalion – Catachan

Company Commander (warlord) – Grand Strategist and Kurov’s Aquila.

Company Commander

Infantry Squad

Infantry Squad

Infantry Squad

2x Artemia Pattern Hellhound

Vulture Gunship – Twin Punisher

Super-heavy Detachment

IK – House Krast

Knight Warden with Endless Fury – Character – Will give a warlord trait before setup w/ strategm. Will most often be either ion bulwark, landstrider, fearsome reputation (for the -2 Ld for purge souls) or the krast WL trait (to reroll 1s to get more 6s to synergize w/ the krast strategm and endless fury).

Armiger Warglaive - Stubber

Armiger Warglaive – Stubber

Supreme Commander Detachment

Grey Knights

Grand Master in Nemesis Dread knight – Teleporter, sword, psilencer, psycannon –Smite, Purge Soul (I usually do 2-3 mortals w/ this power… goes to 4-5 if I take fearsome rep on my warden. Helps against big scary things).

Grand Master in Nemesis Dread knight – Sword, Psilencer, Psycannon –Smite, Sanctuary

Voldus – Smite, GoI, Sanctuary, Hammerhand

This lands me at 1991 points.

The idea is that there are a lot of big threats that can take a beating that will bear down on someone’s army. Most of the threats are fast enough to apply a lot of pressure but flexible enough to stay at range against assault armies.

Voldus has his merits. He can drop 5-6 mortal wounds a turn, and plow into combat and wound most things on 2’s with 97% hit accuracy. It is just getting him there. Most of the time, there will be ample screening ahead of him so he shouldn’t be targeted with shooting.

I figure I can get a 3++ on the two grand masters a turn, and having voldus approach behind them would keep him alive. I thought of trying to have 3 grand masters in DK, but that 3rd one that I couldn’t get a 3++ on would just get targeted and smoked.

I play tested a similar list before the new IK codex and it was brutal. Now with the price drop on a lot of the IK stuff, I was able to fit more in

I like the list, my only "issue" is that I have an hard time seeing how you will manage to deliver your grey knight contigent alive without any ds shenangians on Voldus and a GMDK

Played this last night. I made a couple big mistakes against a nurgle plague bearers list. Was a good game but lost because I had the stupid.

Yay for learning a list.

Do it again, and again, and again, until you figure out how it really works. It took me about 40 games with 8th edition before I really understood the synergies in my current army. And now I'm starting over with a new one.

The opportunities I see for this list to be better have to do with unit selection. It's not a bad list but I wonder if each unit is really doing what it's supposed to.

Let me ask: how are the Armigers working out for you? Are they really making a difference, or could those points be spent better elsewhere?

The Hellhounds - are they the optimal choice, or could they be replaced with something more shooty?

Armigers were... Meh. Multiple games in a row they were just meh.

The hell hounds were... Meh.

The Armigers did do decent job just mucking stuff up and holding up a flank for most of the game but not accomplishing anything else. Very little damage done... Unless against some tanks then they do well.

The hell hounds put out very consistent damage ... But it not a lot of damage. They usually together put out 10str 6ap-1 2 damage hits. But more shooty is Def capable for the 162 points they are together.

Voldus is okay.

Standby for rework

Updating the list.
After relics & pregame CP usage... 10 CP left. Which will easily be closer to 20 available during the fight unless my warlord gets assassinated.

1999 pts
Battalion - Mordian
HQ
Company Commander - Grand strat + Kurov's Aquila
Primaris Psyker - Smite + night shroud + mental fortitude

Troops
10 guardsmen - bolter
10 guardsmen - bolter
10 guardsmen - bolter
10 guardsmen - bolter

Flyer
Vulture gunship - twin punisher

Super-heavy
Knight Household - Krast
Knight Warden - Paragon Gauntlet, warlord trait TBD
Armiger Warglaive
Armiger Wargalive

Supreme Command - Grey Knights
Grandmaster dreadknight - sword, psycannon, psilencer, teleporter
Grandmaster dreadknight - sword, psycannon, psilencer, teleporter
Grandmaster dreadknight - sword, psycannon, psilencer, teleporter

Grey knights grandmasters following up a frontline of knights make a great counter charge or can be held in reserve to land on a flank on turn 2. There is enough survivability against most armies (except tau) to be able to live to the second turn to cause some good hurt.

Mordians are deceptively good! With combined squads and volley fire, they can deal with a lot of chaff pretty well. And with more and more armies fighting in the middle of the board, they will be applicable sooner rather than later... or they will hold objectives in the back while the rest of the army moves forwards and does work.

My vulture punisher almost always does work in a game unless I am facing a wall of armor.

This list has the ability to deal with armor. It has been tested against my Leman Russ list and does very well.

nope, dont like this list. did a few practice games yesterday and today.

Grey kngiht grand masters just do not hold up, and are too slow. And against demons, they were more of a liability instead of a benefit.

Swapping out 3 GMDK w/ 3 shield captains on bikes. This frees up some points as well. SO I am adding 2 leman russ conquerors w/ heavy bolter sponsons.

New list...

Battalion - Catachan
HQ
Company Commander - Grand strat + Kurov's Aquila
Company Commander

Troops
10 guardsmen - mortar + grenade launcher
10 guardsmen - mortar + grenade launcher
10 guardsmen - mortar + grenade launcher
10 guardsmen - mortar + grenade launcher

Elite
Astropath - Mental Fortitude
Heavy Support
Leman Russ Conqueror - 3 heavy bolters
Leman Russ Conqueror - 3 heavy bolters

Flyer
Vulture gunship - twin punisher

Super-heavy
Knight Household - Krast
Knight Warden - Paragon Gauntlet, warlord trait TBD
Armiger Warglaive
Armiger Wargalive

Supreme command - Custodes
Shield Captain on a bike - hurricane bolter
Shield Captain on a bike - hurricane bolter
Shield Captain on a bike - hurricane bolter

This gives me a little bit more pop and ability to assassinate support characters/ grab objectives.

Tried this list out against a mass plaguebearer list, and this new list just smoked a list I struggled with a couple days ago... and I have more flexibility with this list too.

Combiend squads with mortar + grenade launcher make good targets to order for rerolls for random number of hits as well.

Ok, I'm loving this list. Taken it against some tough lists and been having some strong wins. Been able to deal with everything so far. Haven't faced an alpha strike yet. Nids are next
