So, while I haven't been able to play over the past year or so, I've been keeping up with things very closely as well as doing a good bit of hobbying. But, I would like to play AoS from time to time. It seems that AoS 2nd Edition puts Destruction at a very big disadvantage...at least for now. I'm not sure when any new Battletomes will be coming out, but even with some point reductions, are they strong enoug to be viable against Stormcast or armies capable of summoning large amounts of reinforcements?

Thanks

In a tournament min/max environment? Time will tell. Right now the math says no but the math can be wrong. At minimal they can do well but require a lot of skill to use, as opposed to some armies that require a working pulse and the ability to draw breath.

Their point deduction means you can pack more damage in now. You will need excellent target priority though and you will rely on doing a shed load of damage immediately or else summoning armies will just reinforce their numbers and counter charge.

In a casual environment, Beastclaw raiders are more than viable. They wreck casual lists.

They are caught in that in between. I'd rate them as a solid "B" list, which is strong for casual play but weak for powergaming play.

Going to jump in here and steal this thread so I don't have to kake a new one but what would you suggest theybuse as a general?

In addition;
What do we need now to play AoS fully (like if we went to official events and such).

What exactly counts as broken, anyway? Kroak, Tzeentch and Nurgle summoning?

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

It depends on your ability to nuke units.
Beeing a very elite army whit little summoning, if any at all, you cant afford units to respawn, or wizzards to summon new units.

so target priority and fokus is everything for bestclaw now.

I fought a BeastClaw list on Tuesday with my generic Chaos army. I was able to score objectives early on (we played Escalation) and do that for turn 2 and 3 a little due to higher model count. But once they get into melee, it's pretty much over for whatever else the Beastclaws face.

High bravery mobs will tarpit the big guys. Yetis are good for a fast bumrush, and those mournfangs did awesome damage with their garden hackers.

Belakor and the Changeling SUCK by the way.

As a Complete new AoS Player i wonder what to build.
I Played 40k for Years but never touched AoS.

Now my Wife is finaly starting to play with her models. These are AoS so i start it too.

My Question is: Thundertusk or Stonehorn.
Ive seen Thundertusk Huskards can heal and Snipe but are much slower and do less in CQC then Stonehorns.

My thought was for 2k Points going with 2 Thundertusk Huskards for the nice Healing and Charsniping. Minimum one Stonehorn Beastrider and Filling the rest with Mournfang. Would be 3 StartColecting.

Edit:
I dont plan to go on tournaments.
When i play against my wife i wont make it too hard for her but in my Local GW some players play near tournament Level and i want to have a chance

2nd Edit:
Blood Vulture and Blasts of Frost Weatherd Ice.
Can i use these after Running or are they shooting atacks?

Apparently a beastclaw raider list won the ATC last week.

Thundertusks only seem to work well when there are two (or more) of them together, so that list sounds solid to me. They buff each others' healing abilities, which helps keep their damage up.

If you're only running one Stonehorn, try to make it a Frostlord. They've got so much hitting power.

The Blood Vulture isn't a missile weapon, so you can use it when you run, and if you're in combat you can still target freely.

The Blast of Frost-Wreathed Ice is a missile weapon, since it's listed in the weapon profiles (even though it doesn't really have one). You can't use it after running, and if you're in combat you can only use it against the units you're engaged with. However, since it doesn't make a To-Hit roll but instead just happens on a 2+, it's not affected by To-Hit modifiers.

And then disqualified himself after realising his list had too many points. :(

Yeah but he was over by 10 points. In a 2000 point game I don't consider that really telling. A 2010 point list won the tournament. Which would indicate to me that BCR are competitively viable at the very least

Bragga's formation definitely seems to be the way to go for competitiveness. Giving ogors a to-hit bonus actually makes them pretty scary, plus it's the only formation you can fit in a matched game that includes a Frostlord. It's got everything going for it... it's just a shame that the ogors can't get that stuff any other way than bringing Ironjawz along for the ride.

Given that summoning armies are easily capable of throwing out much more than a mere 10 points additional, I think I agree with your assessment on that.

It would be curious to see how it would've performed otherwise, though, as I'm not sure where he could squeeze and how much the composition would change. Still, seems like BCR aren't at the bottom of the pile for the competitive scene, and they do have some pretty sweet models...

I will say I thought the same, until I looked at the list. It wasn't a matter of swapping out something small to bring it under--removing chronomantic cogs was the 'smallest' thing he could have done. That as well as any other change would have impacted the overall performance of the list notably. Would it have been enough that he wouldn't have won? Maybe; we don't know. Regardless it still shows the points reductions have pushed Beastclaw solidly back into overpowered territory--enough that they can expect not to get slaughtered at tournaments if run correctly.
