Was putting together a list wondering if it was possible to make a competitive Army using the Blight Cyst Battalion at 1000 points. I know the BN rules themselves are almost a quarter of the points limit but here goes.

Allegiance: Nurgle

Leaders
Lord of Blights (140)

Battleline
10 x Putrid Blightkings (320)
5 x Putrid Blightkings (160)
5 x Putrid Blightkings (160)

Battalions
Blight Cyst (220)

Total: 1000 / 1000
Extra Command Points: 1
Allies: 0 / 200
Wounds: 87

The Blightking models are super expensive (real money wise) and wanted to get some feedback from people who have run them before I drop at least 200 bucks on 20 Blightkings. The awesome Blight Lord shooting attack spreading to multiple units, plus adding rend to the Blightkings seems awesome to me and maybe worth the 220 points, taking away opponents cover save in Combat Phase is a nice bonus as well. Thanks in advance for the help.

I just think the 220p could be spent far better elsewhere- some buff characters, more bodies etc.

Battalions shouldn't really be used at 1000 points because they will be taking up too many valuable points that could be spent far better elsewhere

When you say "competitive" what exactly do you mean? Because it all hinges on that, really.

By competitive I mean that I don't mind losing games, but I certainly want the ability to win once in awhile. I don't want to tailor my list to be uber-cheese or run a WAAC list, but able to win is a big plus.

In that case you'll be good. Blightkings are more or less OP for their cost but don't make competitive showing due to running afoul of mortal wound meta; it's a strange limbo that Beastclaw are also stuck in where they wreck casual but are merely OK at tournaments. If you need to make the list stronger drop the 10-man unit to 5 and bring a Poxbringer with the witherstave.

I like the idea of Gutrot Spume in there to lead a unit around the table edge. Outflanking is really handy in most games.
