Death Before Dishonour is a 2-day tournament of 5 games of Warhammer 40,000 - with a focus on great battles between well painted, thematic armies on tables with full terrain.

Are you a 40k gamer with a highly tuned soup army, using the bleeding edge of what’s viable and borrowing models to bring the hardest hitting force you possibly can?

Then I’m sorry, but this tournament might not be right for you.

However, if you are a player with a well-painted force mostly of a single faction, who enjoys playing for the love of the whole hobby and the excitement of getting your army to the table then maybe you just found your new favourite tournament.

Visit the new website https://deathbeforedishonour.co.uk/ and sign up to be notified when tickets go on sale, when the full site goes live and when the rules pack is published.

Although I will clearly post about it here as well!

Although “soup” armies aren’t necessarily a bad thing, Death Before Dishonour has a much more strict set of army composition rules which uses the existing Command Point system to reward players who bring a thematic, mono-codex army.

The rules pack* has a full breakdown of the system, but in short:
  • You must bring at least one Battalion, Brigade or Super-Heavy detachment, which must contain your warlord. This is your "Primary Detachment"

  • You will only gain CPs from detachments that exactly match the keywords of your Primary Detachment. No exceptions!

  • You only gain the +3 CPs for “Battleforged” if all your detachments have exactly matching keywords

  • On that last point there are a few exceptions. For example to help obviously lore friendly forces like Death Guard and Nurgle Daemons to keep their CPs when they fight together, or to allow Drukhari players to field a mix of Cults, Covens and Kabals without being punished.

However if you're used to taking an cheap IG battalion as a command point battery then adding on some Custodes Jetbikes and some Imperial Knights... well you're going to start with far fewer CPs than your more "pure" opponents!

Although this won't create the most "cutting edge meta" tournament, it will level the playing field, increase choice and reward thematic armies - to let all the glorious variety of Warhammer 40k factions out to play.

    * Website with rules pack will go live in the next week or so... thanks to everyone who's signed up - I will keep you posted.

The full website is now live, with draft rules pack and paint scoring guide! Please go and check it out at http://deathbeforedishonour.co.uk/

I've taken the brave/foolish [delete as applicable] decision to allow commenting on the rules pack in case the 40k hive mind can pick up things I have missed, particularly around edge case army composition rules.

If people write nonsense on it I will just turn it off but let's give it a try!!! Doctor Pepper, what's the worst that could happen?

Tickets will be on sale from 1st September 2018. Sign up on the homepage to get notification of presales and updates.

Not sure - I'd like them to! I was in discussion with Lawrence as I wanted him to sponsor it but he's not really in the business of sponsoring tournaments.

Really the inspiration for this tournament is the amazing-looking (but invite only and in Gibraltar) "No Retreat" which I think Lawrence has won before. I think it's the kind of tournament that's up their street.

About a month to go until Death Before Dishonor and preparations are going into full swing.

Not sure if anyone on Dakka has signed up but if so... VERY SOON I will reach out to you individually to update you on the army list submission process and soft/hard deadlines.

    But first...

I thought I'd share a post about the prizes and sponsorship we have organised, and shed some light on some of the things people might walk away with.

First on board was Element Games, who are hosting the tournament. They don't really need much introduction as they are one of Europe's leading web retailers of wargaming stuff... but for those of us fortunate enough to live close by... walking in there for the first time is like being a kid going into Hamleys in London. You just can't believe how much cool stuff there is there, and how big the gaming space is.

Element will be providing store credit and some other prizes from their "Element Essentials" range to a number of winners which you can eitehr use there and then or on the website.

After Element, the next sponsor to come on board was Gamemat.Eu. I approached them because I use their products myself and know they are great quality. I'm excited to say that we have 3 of their incredible 6x4 neoprene game mats to give away... plus a one of their "Badlands" terrain sets.

In fact... the top table will be using the "Sands of Time" GameMat.eu mat and Badlands scenery which the tournament winner will be able to take home (or have delivered if you walked there, I guess!)

Yep, by winning at the top table you will literally win the top table* Cool, right?

Our other two sponsors are Versatile Terrain and Dark Fantastic Mills. Both are one-man organisations who had a 3d printer and a great idea... but then did the actual hard part by executing on the idea, and are getting amazing results.

Versatile Terrain are best known for their model name plates, which have taken games like Kill Team and Adeptus Titanicus by storm. Having gorgeous scroll-like names in a variety of fonts and styles on the bases of your Captains, Commanders, Knights, Titans and other favourite models is just brilliant.

With the vouchers we're awarding you should be able to take your already awesome army up one more notch.

Dark Fantastic Mills started by making high-fantasy scenery for Age of Sigmar but I believe they are braching out into stuff designed for 40k in 2019. Some of the detail they are getting on their scenery is breathtakingly impressive, which some of our winners can buy with vouchers.

They are our trophy manufacturers as well, and I know people will be really excited to take those home.

There is one "Top Prize" for the player with the highest combined Painting, Gaming and Sportmanship score across the whole event. We have a pretty epic trophy on order for this and the lucky winner will also get vouchers and other prizes too.

Even if you aren't one of the winners, all attendees will get a unique discount code for our sponsors, to help you get their products for a great price.

Can't wait for the 9th of Feb!

There are still a few tickets available - go here to grab one: https://elementgames.co.uk/event-tickets/IE40k-090219

If you have questions about the format, list validity or anything else just ask us on Facebook Messenger! http://m.me/DBDtournament

    * The Gamemat.eu parts of it anyway - we will have to top it up with other scenery bits for extra LOS. You probably can't steal those. Sorry.
