Yes yes I know, another of these threads, I apologise.

When I decided to come back to GW last year after 15+ years out of the game, it was partly because I dug all of my old models out of my parents' garage. When I visited the GW site it quickly became apparent that WHFB was no longer a thing. Now I have very little interest in trying to patch together and army from the models I have (small to medium collections of Empire, Brettonians, High Elves, Dogs of War, and Lizardmen).

The factions I like the look of are Moonclan Grots, Khorne Bloodbound (I think they're called) and Slaves to Darkness. I'm not looking to steamroll opponents, but I also don't want to walked over, or people to not want to play because my faction either a joke or mega OP. I literally know nothing other than the bits I've read on this forum.

I have a few questions about each of the three

Grots:

Is this more of a joke army that looks funny but is pretty poor?
A big chunk of the range is resin, are they likely to do what happens in 40k here and silently remove odd models from the range?
Is it a very one dimensional army?
Am I going to need 300 grots to fill out an army?
How expensive is an army of these going to be?

Khorne:

These look to be new since AOS, so is the range fully kitted out?
Can these be played as a horde and as elites?
I assume I can ally in the Nurgle daemons I have from 40k, am I right?
How expensive is an army of these going to be?
Are they fun to play?

Slaves:

I assume these are the old Chaos Undivided faction from FB with some new stuff?
Are they fun to play?
I assume I can ally in the Nurgle daemons I have from 40k, am I right?
Are any of their models likely to get the chop soon if they are an older range (I know nobody really knows this apart from GW, but has this been happening in AoS in general)?

Sorry for the wall of text, and don't worry if you can't answer all of the questions, any help would be appreciated.

TL;DR: I fancy playing Grots, Khorne BB or Slaves to Darkness, which one is most fun to play while not getting curbstomped or doing any curbstomping?

The two Moonclan builds I see most are horde (still on movement trays from last edition) and all squigs. Both can be fun but can also struggle. New Moonclan are rumoured to be coming soon.

Khorne Bloodbound & Slaves to Darkness are both solid, but really need building around their buffs.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Khrorne can ally with "Brayherds, Chaos Gargants, Everchosen, Monsters of Chaos, Nurgle, Slaves to Darkness (excluding units with mark of SLAANESH), Warherds", while Slaves to Darkness can ally with "Brayherds, Chaos Gargants, Everchosen, Khorne, Nurgle, Slaanesh, Tzeentch, Warherds".

Throwing another one in, Spiderfang Grots are pretty powerful currently, but are very limited by model range. Could make for great allies, especially if you take the Spiderfang Venom Clan box.

Khorne is pretty solid but is very combo reliant, i.e. you will need several characters buffing your units. That said, they do hordes or elites pretty well once you sent your combo units up. You can ally in Nurgle Daemons, but it kind of limits your effectiveness.

Slaves to Darkness are okay currently, but really shine when you pick a god to mark them, as they are very buff dependent. You can ally in your Nurgle stuff here.

If I can offer a suggestion, I'd say go with the Maggotkin. It's a Nurgle only army, but you can take any Slaves to Darkness unit that can be marked as Nurgle and you can take all your Nurgle Daemons while getting some pretty good army buffs. Maggotkin are strong right now but by no means overpowered.

Thanks guys. I took a look at Maggotkin but I'm not a big fan of the aesthetic. I think I need to do some more reading up on how the factions play. I'm mainly looking for something fun and that I enjoy painting.

Hello and welcome back to the world of Warhammer. If you're looking for an army that can hold it's ground in combat, you can forget about goblins and go for some serious bashing with khorne. I just sold my goblin army, which I collected for those same reasons as yours (fun), but they were under performing. I've been planning to start more competitive list for tournaments, and khorne and nurgle are very good on their own. (I actually started undead army with nagash, like back in the days when I was introduced to the game).
