It's time for another Let's Play! Today, I'm joined by Owen from Gaming with the Cooler as we walk through our first game of Kill Team, the Cult of the Four-Armed-Emperor taking on the Skitarii of the Adeptus Mechanicus on Fortis Binary!
On the Debbie Downer side, it does not give me a warm-and-fuzzy about gameplay. Understanding that there are compromises to show how the game works, the confined arena, with sparse terrain, and true LOS, makes it look like lining up and alternately shooting each other IS the game. Not much nuance there. I like rolling dice. But, there don't appear to be a lot more here. Except for Command Points that typically modify the dice rolls.

Considering this was their first game where they spread terrain out in order to better record the action, there's a lot missing. I've seen a half dozen other battle reports where the fights went back and forth, hinging on successful charges, responses to enemy movement, and even knocking foes off of their perches on high. This game has a LOT of nuance and strategy that is hard to see from one game.

I share this concern somewhat but since this is their firat games and probably also made to be easy for the viewer im okay with it.
What worries me more is how the game rules itself seem to benefit clumping your gang together in a blob...which will absolutely end up in a very boring experience...I hope im wrong on this as ive been really hyped for KT but the more the rules and abilities have been revealed the more wary ive become.
Is it me or are you not limited to gunners if they are in different data slates?
e.g. you could have:
2 scout gunners with missile launchers
1 space marine gunner with a missile launcher
1 space marine gunner with a plasmagun
2 intercessor gunners with grenade launchers
all in the same killteam. guess it does not suit the missions but is quite funny

You're also punished for clumping, because the enemies can shoot multiple targets with multishot weapons if they're within 2", meaning that your clump can suddenly eat a flamer / frag cannon / storm bolter fusillade to the face and you lost more than you'd have by being spread out, so there's that. I'd be very surprised if this didn't also happen with some stratagems. Also, grenades.
Bharring wrote: Is it a 2" chain, or 2" from the initial target?
Not sure, but I'd expect it to be from the initial target, as that produces less faffing about with ranges or lines of sight. Still, if someone wants to benefit from, say, the Imperial guard stratagem that spreads the order to guys within 3" of the originally commanded guy, that bunch is now more vulnerable to multishots until it disperses. There's probably some interesting tightrope walking happening between how much low morale teams want to bunch up vs. how much they want to give their opponents the chance to fire at full auto, since having guys spread out lessens the effect of high volume guns (which can only cause one injury check per weapon, as that's the realm of heavy gear).

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Doesnt this refer to the weapon TYPE grenades? Grenade launchers are Assault weapon.
Intercessor grenade launchers aren't.
