During the 10th Anniversary Clone Wars panel at San Diego Comic-Con, creator and producer Dave Filoni announced that the show would return on Disney’s streaming service, finishing off the story that was widely considered to be left hanging after the show’s abrupt cancellation in 2013.
From 2008 to 2013, The Clone Wars ran on Cartoon Network, revealing the massive war that took place between the theatrical, live-action movies Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. It featured existing characters such as Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi as well as a number of original fan-favorite characters, including Anakin’s apprentice Ahsoka Tano and Captain Rex. In 2013, Lucasfilm announced that it was “winding down” the show, eventually sending its final, six-episode season to Netflix, while another unfinished story arc was written up as a novel, Christie Golden’s Dark Disciple. Lucasfilm and Disney then focused on creating a follow-up Star Wars animated show, Star Wars Rebels, set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope / Rogue One. After a four-season run, Rebels ended earlier this year. More recently, Lucasfilm announced a third animated show, Star Wars Resistance, set prior to The Force Awakens.

The word is 12 episodes at the moment, but given how popular the show obviously remains, I'd not bet against even more in future.
12 episodes appears confirmed, the only thing I haven't seen is release date, but I'm guessing this'll be a flag ship attractor when the Disney service goes live next year.

That's... How in the heck did they keep this a surprise? I need more time to process this, and to get rid of the big stupid grin that's all over my face

Awwwwwwww yeaah, super hype for this. I get that it's a bone-throwing exercise to placate older fans due to all the other upcoming new content being post-OT, but I don't even care. Wonder if this will include the Bad Batch episodes, that idea seemed pretty cool, though nobody will ever replace Fives.

Im gonna assume that yes it will include the Bad Batch, considering the scene with the Gunship Landing showed Anakin, Rex and a Clone Commando in Black and Red armor with Rambo Hair.
Word is out - it'll be one of those special vendor only streaming services like CBS all-access
Prepare to fork over $10 a month for the privilege...

TBF word's been out since the announcement, it's never not been anything but a show for Disney Stream.

Disney Life is already a thing, so I wouldn't count on any existing service getting it.
I mean, it is certainly possible, but I wouldn't rely on it.

And I invite each and every one of us to take a moment and reflect on just what Clone Wars did for the Saga.
Seriously. The depth of story telling it added, and how it more than papered over the cracks of the original trilogy (spesh between II and III). It’s Star Wars. There was no need to do such a bang up job, because we’d have watched it all the same.
But man. It still absolutely blows me away. And it leads to this moment from Rebels so beautifully. (Potential spoiler warning for those late to the part)
I hope they take this chance to re visit Ventriss’s fate. Being a mere Mangst trigger simply will not do for one of the most interesting and compelling Force users in canon.
Started as a Jedi. Became a Sith. Turned her back on both. So much potential.

Fed up of Scalpers? But still want your Exclusives? Why not join us?
It'll show up on Foxtel here in Oz, 'cause the Disney Channel is on Foxtel. Either that or it'll go straight to Netflix like other "exclusive" series, like Star Trek Discovery.
So, I am looking for a long show. Mostly because I'm almost burnt out on anime. Never watched Clone Wars. Do I start with the movie or the series? Are they related? What is going on there?
You can watch them in broadcast order, starting with the Clone Wars movie, or you can watch them in chronological order, where the first episode is actually the 16th episode of the second season.
I'm looking forward to getting back into the Clone Wars all over again.
Hopefully there will be a BluRay release including the lost missions. Never got to see those.
All the time that I was grinding my way through the boxed sets I kept thinking "how are these so much better than the prequels?" They even made me like Anakin, unlike Haydyn Christensen... On one hand, heroic, likeable, but flawed Jedi ; in the movies creepy, emo, whingebag.

It's not as complicated as it might seem. Aside from a couple of longer arcs (mainly in the last two series) the order isn't really important and the stories being told across a given 3-4 episode set are fairly self-contained.
Honestly, I'd just start from series 1 and watch through in the order they're presented. That way, you get all the longer storylines in the right order (or in a way that makes sense in the cases where things are show out of order) and the rest is presented in such a way as not to matter that much. There's also a noticeable improvement to the visuals in the later series, which might be jarring if you were to keep switching between them.
Strongly disagree, chronological order is far, far better than broadcast order. While most of the main "arc" plots aren't radically affected(the Fives arc very much is), you still run into stuff like characters you've seen die pop up alive and well again and that kind of thing is far more jarring that the very modest change in animation quality which you don't really notice once you're into an episode.

What? Why does this madness exist?!
One reason I heard when Clone wars was still running was that Lucas was so impressed with the work on the show before its release, that they decided to take several episodes and mash them into a movie. This had the effect of throwing the story continuity and more importantly there production schedule out of whack for the early seasons.
