Particularly, black outfits that are super form fitting, like those assassins are sporting?

Painting black Space Marines isn't too tough, because if you just do some nice edging with a good gray color, they'll look pretty spiffy. But these guys are all smooth muscles and such. So before I start, I thought I'd run my plan by y'all. What might you do differently? How can I do the rounded muscles of the team?

I was thinking of starting with black primer. Then paint up the muscly bulges in either Kantor blue (a dark blue) or even Stegadon Scale Green (a very dark green, almost black, that's always seemed a little blue-ish to me). But then I'm stuck. Though I've been painting for years, I'm definitely a "Paint a few colors, add some Nuln Oil, maybe a few touchups... Done!" kind of guy. How would you paint up from black, keeping it very dark? I was thinking the blue-ish hue might be a neat effect (I've used it on ghosts and wraiths and such, and like how it looks) but with no edges, I'm a bit baffled on how to go about doing this.

Would you do blue? Any good tutorials? Any advice?

Thanks!

I play...

Sigh.

Who am I kidding? I only paint these days...

I just got finished painting up a couple of assassins for last months dakka paint challenge.

Do you have access to an airbrush? I primed in black and then did a zenithal highlight with a light grey. You could probably achieve a similar effect with a spray can using a lighter colour. I then sprayed over that with a mix of badger ghost tint/ army painter wash using a mix of black/ blue shades. Other than some touch ups that was pretty much it for the skin suits.

If you don't have access to an airbrush you could probably get away with dry brushushing some darker blue/ greys to pick out the details and then adding a wash to darken the shadows.

I'd drybrush incubi darkness over a black base coat, nuln oil to smooth it out, then use kabalite green to highlight the lines of muscle.

I would use both flat and semi gloss black in random places to give the illusion of it colorshifting.
