Greetings, fellow Eternals! I need a bit of list help. As with a lot of new players, I picked up Soul Wars and traded the Nighthaunts for another SCE half. My store primarily plays at 1500 pt for tournaments and 2k on AoS nights. Right now, to start at least, I'll be focusing on the 1500 list. I am trying to balance melee with some ranged and magic support. Here's the list so far:

Lord-Arcanum on Gryph-Charger
Knight-Incantor

2 units of 5 Sequitors w/mauls and greatmaces

2 Celestar Ballista

2 units of 5 Evocators, one with swords/staves and the other with great staves

1 unit of 3 Vanguard-Raptors with Longstrike crossbows

And of course, the Everblaze comet.

I feel like that should provide some decent melee, range and magic, but may be weak at capturing objectives (although sending a group of sequitors, evocators, and a character with the range support might help push things off an objective).

Anyway, I'd like to know your thoughts on the list and if it sounds good, what Stormhost, items, and spells I should take to make the most out of it. I'm leaning towards Tempest Lords, but I'm open to anything

Thanks in advance!

Looks a solid start.

To get the best out of the Ballistas i would consider a lord ordinator for +1 to hit for them.

Yours aye

All anyone wants in the world is to be accepted. Except me, i don't give a S%@t.

I never used vanguard raptors, but my GF has used a unit of 'em a few times now - they never did anything worth their points.

I would prefer another ballista or 5 more sequitors. They may be line infantry, but they are still amazing for their points.

Also remember you should have some units to block assaults to your vulnerable ranged units. If you want to tag an objective, sequitors arriving via drop-pod - I mean lighning - are really great. Just let them buff their saves and show you opponent just how sturdy they are. (Yes, I really like sequitors)

As you already know, I also prefer tempest lords, as I really like to waste my CPs :-D

I've had great success with two units of evocators arriving from reserves, rerolling their charge if they fail (because tempest lords have more CPs). They cant cast their spell in that turn, but they still hit like a truck! Just move your general near them because your opponent will get to strike first on one squad if both make the charge (evocators really like the lord arcanums ressurection ability!)

Thanks for the tips!

I might switch out the Raptors for another Ballista or an Ordinator. I'll have to see how they do when I play them. Although, maybe the hurricane crossbow versions may be better (which gives me another 40pts for endless spells). I like the idea of some long range damage with regards to the sniper variation, but the low amount of shots is worrying.

I've heard only good things about Sequitors so that's definitely on the table too!

Hail Eternal brethren!

I would recommend that you increase the size of your Sequitor units to 6 (or even 10 to make it nice and easy to count) as its 1 Stormsmite Greatmace for every 3 Sequitors, right?

Everything depends on what I'm fighting of course, if I were up against a 0 shooting death or destruction army I'd pop my Judicators into one group and grab a Relictor instead of Castellant for that Bless weapons on them if I was sure I could successfully screen with Fulminators and Liberators.

You should figure out scenarios against certain lineups. I might drop 5x Judicators and the Dais Arcanum to bring more melee if I'm up against a Gore-Grunta alpha strike team without a shaman for example!

Regarding Ballistas:

"
Ballista Damage 36" with Ordinator and no LoS 4+ save = 1.62

Ballista Damage 36" without Ordinator(or with Ord and LoS) 4+ save= 1.3

Ballista Damage 18" with Ordinator 4+ save= 3.88

Judicator Damage unbuffed no LoS 4+ save= 2.49

Longstrike Damage unbuffed, no LoS 4+ save= 2.7ish probably closer to 3 with Mortal wounds on 6s

Basically, Ballista do work at 18" but are going to be worse on average than the other shooting units outside of that range, which makes the Ordinator's command ability less valuable. You'll likely only get one round where you can use his CA on a ballista's 18" profile before your opponent has to kill it. ..."3 ballista and an ordinator do almost as much damage as 6 longstrikes at range and almost double inside 18" for a relatively small investment"...

Thanks for the awesome post! I like the info regarding the ballistas, but would like to see the average damage at 18" without an Ordinator. Since I have 2, I was thinking about dropping them in 18" away and letting loose with both in rapid fire mode. Alternatively, having them further away might be a good idea to try to hold an objective or to use as a distraction from things like my Evocators.

The Battletomb for the Sequitors is a bit different, so I get 3 Greatmaces in a unit of 5, including the Prime (see below)
Spoiler:
A unit of Sequitors has any number of models.
The unit is armed with one of the following
weapon options: Stormsmite Maul and
Soulshield; or Tempest Blade and Soulshield. 2
in every 5 models can replace the unit’s weapon
option with a Stormsmite Greatmace.

I eventually want to make a cavalry list, and I've heard/read that Fulminators are amazing. Have you had a lot of success with them? Looking at the others of that type, I feel like the only ones that are worth it would be the Fulminators and the Concussors (for a defensive/offensive split).

I also want some Palladors since those models look super awesome. I wonder how they perform... I heard they were good against enemy cavalry.

Now I'm hijacking my own thread

Oh damn, Sequitors are amazing haha. I've decided not to use them as they seem almost too good for their points cost and I dont like the look of them!

I'm a huge fan of the Fulminators as they stomp quite hard and can output a massive amount of wounds on the charge! You move em into charge position, spit some mortal wounds, charge in and tear up what didn't die the first time around. Lotsa fun!
Concussors are nice too but I prefer to bring a solid unit of Fulminators and a LCoD with a Lightning Hammer for the hindering on pile in effect instead and keeping the survivability and deadly charge from the Fulminators! Requires a bit of luck though!

Luvvo's "Son's Le Breton" (Beautifully painted and modified Stormcast Eternal army) usually runs Fulminators and a Stardrake as well as some Evocators to wreck havoc. Check those Battle Reports out if you haven't already!

Never used the Palladors as they're packing a bit less punch but could be cool to use as objective grabbers due to their incredible speed! Quite nice with 3 models at 15 wounds for 200 points, but I'm not sure they'll contribute more towards a win than 10 Liberators or 2 Ballistas!
From what I can gather there is no "Light Cav" for Stormcast Eternals so if you gotta bring some you might as well bring the heavies in my opinion!

The only thing I can see that could rival Fulminators would be Evocators on Dracolines but I have yet to see their warscrolls!
https://i.redd.it/4b6audnm14711.jpg

However, Evocators can apperantly pick one spell of the Lore of Invigoration and cast other than Empower according to a FAQ.

They might actually make me get a Lord Arcanum on Dracoline and pump out a sexy full cav list as they look amazing and are slightly overpowered for their points right now!

A cav unit that can buff, unbind spells, have anti-shooting defense, MW-spam and solid stat lines with 15 wounds for 3 at 300 pts. Might see these tear up tournaments soon! Cheaper than Fulminators but with a little worse charge (Unless GW decides to make them a must have and gives them some kind of mortal wound generating Dracoline charge attack.. Which I doubt..)

^ All assumptions using the warscroll cards for Evocators and Astreia Solbright. They might very well do something differing with the Evocators on Dracolines. ^

Get enough unbind rolls to contest Death and Chaos Daemons armies xD

But this is probably quite expensive to build though! Assuming 120-140€~ on the Dracoline'd Evocators

Fulminators are both defensive and terrifyingly explosive on the charge, solid pick! Evocators are Evocators though! Get them a mount and they might make Fulminators drop a tier rather urgently as they did with Retributors!
