So I finally found the warscrolls for the dawn spire box and got a 1000pt game in against fire dwarves. We played a match play game where we had to sit on objectives 3 each side and at the end of the game whoever had the most points wins. I actually won because I took reavers and managed to have them out run his whole army and sit on objectives while the rest of my army just got slaughtered.

Is there a way to build high elves to where their fun or competitive to play? Or should I consider waiting for an update and trying another army?

Since they don't have an updated book, I would definitely say if winning tournaments is your goal that you need to find a force that has an updated book.

Any thing that used to be high elves currently has no updated anything and while you can build them to be a solid "B" list, they won't win you tournaments.

HE are most certainly sitting in a gap at present; however they are likely to get at least some repair/support in the future. There are the angelic elves to come which will almost certainly be allies of the Highelves and might be the focal point for them - much like Daughters of Khaine are for the current old Dark Elf forces.

That said I do agree that the Aelf forces do need cleaning up and would benefit from a generic battletome collecting together several of the smaller groups into a single book to update them and perhaps even give them a bit more alliance flexibility with each other.

But right now we've really no idea how GW is going to treat the elf forces; they could keep them small niche groups; bolster them to full armies (Daughters of Khaine was 3 model kits - witches, cauldron and warlocks - which got bolstered with only 3 further kits into a full faction)
