Raging Ravener

Hello all. I’m fairly new to AoS/Fantasy (40K player) but have always been interested in Lizardmen. What’s not to love about giant Aztec dinosaurs? I’m looking to get started with a decent force and was wondering if anyone would be able to recommend some good starting units, what a fairly competitive large size force would look like, what to avoid, etc. Typical pts for games? Usually do 2k for 40k.

I’d really love to have a carnosaur with a group or two of cold one riders, with maybe skinks, lizardmen, temple guard and a caster or two as the main body. Are the larger dinos useful? Ranged units?

I know this is a very broad question, and if I should ask elsewhere just let me know. Any advice or discussion would help greatly, thanks!

The get started set is a great way to get close to 500 points. I'd start out in the 500 to 1k range to get a good handle on how units work and then expand from there.

Sigmar also tends to err toward 2K but often as not getting your feet wet and trying out the game at smaller point levels and building up your force steadily not only gives you lessons in the mechanics but also helps you keep up - building 2K force before playing can be wearing on the hands and moral

Also make sure you get the Battletome for Seraphon (er lizardmen) as that will give you most of the info you need to play them. Back that up with the Generals Handbook 2018 and then you can either get the big rule book (mostly full of lore) or use the PDF on the warhammer website for the core rules.

You might also want to kepe an eye on the Malign Sorcery boxed set as the Endless Spells are proving very popular in many clubs/groups. The Realm based stuff is a bit more hit and miss, but the endless spells are a good investment and the MS boxed set is cheaper than a getting started and gives you all the models and rules and kit you need (barring Balewind Vortex model). Seraphon being a magic heavy army often as not, the Endless spells are a neat and powerful addition when used right.

After that the getting started kit is a very good - well - starting point.

The seraphon start collecting kit has a BUNCH of hacks you can do which is fantastic. Buy two for the following options.

1) It comes with 8 saurus knights. This means 2 boxes have 16. They come in units of 5 so 2 start collecting kits with a single spare. If you build 1 oldblood on Carnosaur and 1 troglodon you'll have plenty of spare bits to kitbash the spare knight into your first Bonus hero the Scar-Vet on cold one.

2) Each carnosaur kit when built will have a spare rider, either a saurus oldblood or a skink oracle. Add a bit of basing and both can be converted into Bonus Hero Number 2 and 3 the Saurus Oldblood on foot and either a Skink Starpriest or Skink Priest.

3) two kits also gives you everything you need for a Firelance Starhost (3 units of knights and a scar vet on coldone or carnosaur). If you build the knights with lances you have a VERY hard impact option on charges.

4) 2 boxes also gets you 22 saurus warriors. If you give em spears a 20 man unit of spearus warriors is a VERY effective anchor unit, especially once you buy a slann and can teleport them onto an objective or into the backfield (protip: Buy a slann)
