I think you missed Jadenim's pictures off, mate.

Great work everyone, I'll comment on everyone's stuff in a couple of days when I get back from holiday.

My votes this month:

1) Midget Gems - How can I note vote for this one!? Not only a great paintjob but mostly a really convincing and tasteful conversion.

2) Tim 121RVC - Something is very satisfying about this miniature. It was fun following your WIPs and I think the drybushing methods have paid off.

3) Feltmonkey - When I saw your final pics go up I thought to myself, "damn, there's another one that I have no choice but to vote for", a paint job fitting to such a titanic miniature. A very moody piece!

4) Chris56 - I'm not sure if my eyes are funny or the picture's a little blurry, but I can see a tremendous paint job through that all the same. The blending on the blades is incredible and the dark scheme is quite fitting.

Great work this month everybody! Every month brings a higher level of competition and produces stunning minis - i'm really keen to see what comes out of next month!

A Protoss colony world

Since I didn't do so last month, I'll go ahead and comment on everybody this time around. Here goes:

Nevelon: Wraithlords have always been one of my favorite Eldar models (along with their larger cousins, Wraithknights), and you did really well on this one. I love the color scheme!

Rybrook: I gotta admit, I'm a little jealous of you for having those old-school models. They are so characterful! Your paintwork on them is really good also.

Vejut: More animal buddies, and a big-ass gun. What's not to like? This might be my favorite entry from you yet; you've definitely stepped up your painting game!

Rouven: With all that rust, how does that thing even move? Because Papa Nurgle wills it, that's why! The weathering on that model is seriously awesome!

Kustomer D: Admittedly I don't know the character Black Adam, but you seem to have painted him well, especially the yellow parts.

Porphyrius: A pity you couldn't finish the full 5-man squad, but the three you did finish look great!

ZoBo: Rotigus looks amazing, and the fact that you did it really quickly is even more amazing! I wish I had that skill.

Paradigm: The model looks great, but somehow that head just doesn't do it for me. Not really savage enough for Khorne. That's just personal taste most likely, so please don't take it the wrong way! Other than the head, the model looks absolutely phenomenal!

DrGiggles: That is a good clean paintjob, but the photos are sideways for some reason. Doesn't take away from the fact that you did well on it, though!

Straken619: That guy looks like he's been taking a few trophies. Looks awesome!

Midget Gems: That conversion looks somewhat like something I saw in a recent White Dwarf where a guy had a looted Dreadknight. It's a totally badass conversion and you should be proud!

jb1981: Very clean paintjob; the main thing you could do to improve it is to add some shade around the metallic trim on the red parts; it would really help the colors pop more in those areas. Still a pretty nice model!

Power Elephant: The weathering looks great on that model; like he's been in a few firefights and lived to tell about it.

ZergSmasher: Once again the camera doesn't show my highlights on the green parts very well. Oh well, I'm still pretty happy with how my model turned out. Only thing I would go back and change would be to paint the lascannon nozzle cover thingies black instead of green.

SirOllox: I love Juggernaut riders, and you did a great job on that one. I have a feeling it looks even better in person; some of the photos have a little too much shadow.

Inquisitor Lord Bane: A wash and some highlights would do wonders for this model. That said, it otherwise looks very cleanly done.

lipsdapips: That banner looks absolutely stunning, and the guy holding it looks almost as stunning. I wish I could freehand like this!

Jadenim: This might actually be your best offering in one of these challenges yet. That guy looks amazing!

SmallChanges: Love the color choice for the tabard, and overall the paintwork on this guy is really good!

Modock: Another fine entry from you! That guy is certainly not someone I'd want to meet in battle, or probably anywhere else for that matter!

Suzuteo: Putting those Stormcast Eternal wings on that model was a stroke of genius! I've been thinking about how to use Sigmarine stuff with 40k, and you may have just found one of the best ways!

ssisal: I like the bright vibrant colors, and Allarielle looks as much at home on one of the flying turtles as she does on the back of her usual giant insect!

KernelTerror: That model is terrifyingly grotesque, which fits in with Chaos very well!

Craggy: Some of the photos are a little dark, but the model looks good!

Tim 121RVC: That is some of the best use of highlights I've ever seen. The skin and fur on that model are really well executed!

feltmonkey: Yet again, you manage to wow us all with your talents! Durthu looks great! I especially like the sword and the glowing branch things coming out of his head.

Chris56: Very cool-looking Ork (sorry, Orruk!) boss; I can't even pick out a favorite part, it's just so well-done all over.

I certainly had fun participating in this challenge, and I had fun looking through everyone else's stuff to decide who to vote for as well. I can't remember exactly who got my votes, but who cares, everybody did really well this month! Shout out as always to Paradigm for organizing and running these challenges. See you all in the August one!

This is an awesome month, a lot of great entries

On a personnel note if any of you have Blogs or other form areas you hang out in please promote the voting and us in general. I'd be very thankful for any extra exposure we can get and the more people that see everyone's hard work the better in my opinion

Thank you very much for the comments Lips, Zerg (do you know what issue? would be interesting to see what he did), DrGiggles and for anyone else that votes for my entry. I had a lot of fun thinking about it and painting it which was a nice change

You and your entries are always welcome Elbows

I'll do a comment on everyones entries over the weekend, got to rush out now and hadn't finished all the comments.

Wow, such a massive month!
I voted for a dozen entries this month and could have easily voted for more. Sorry I don't have time to comment on everyone's this month - next month, I promise!

Standouts for me:
Rouven - your first entry and it is a great one! Love the vibrant colours contrasting with the rust;
Zobo - really like the subtlety of a range of desaturated gross colours;
Para - Lord of Khorne suits your style so well - mind you, I find myself saying that a lot, so either you pick great models for your style or in fact your style suits everything you paint...hmmm;
lipsadips - top banner freehand, great work;
Smallchanges - top job on Grey Knights Grand Master;
Modock - the work on that axe blade is exceptional;
ssisal - this conversion is bonkers and you've done a great job on your choice of colours as well - top job;
Feltmonkey - great contrast in the tones, blending on the leaves and the subtle use of orange osl all combine well - you'll have to show us some photos of your whole army soon!

and for me the trophy-winner is Midgetgems' looted dread - this is just such an awesome conversion and great paint. That you have done all of the check patterns and then weathered them creates a real depth to the paintjob. Awesome stuff.

Great work everyone! Really nice challenge. Ok since we have 3 winners for every challenge im gonna talk about the top 3 from the people I voted without any particular order.

Midget Gems - Amazing work man. Not only an awesome conversion but very well painted too.

Modock - You are pretty much my auto-vote in every challenge, but I think your last 2 entries are your best work yet. Maybe mierce miniatures are just perfect for your style

Feltmonkey - Just how many trees do you have man? And are they all different or you just paint them different? I would really like to see them all side by side. Also one thing is for sure. You have mastered the tree painting. Every one you have posted here is amazing.

Rouven: love the rust and green blending!
ZoBo: I hate that model, but I'm impressed by the way you used all the kinds of green without making it look boring. On the contrary, it looks interesting!
Straken619: Man he's got a lot of skulls hanging around! Is the sword painted all in the same colour? Hard to tell, but it seems like it.
Midget Gems: Converting is probably my favorite part of this hobby and your entry contains a lot of that kind of work. Great piece, a lot of nice details to look at.
Jb1981: The very clean paintjob is a nice change compared to the dirt and damage these models usually face. Factory fresh!
Power Elephant: Great work on the dirt! Diggin' the green as well.
Lipsdapips: Incredible banner! I really like the painting on the "loin cloth" (don't know the right term atm) too.
Modock: Very well painted. Just like the artwork for those 80's (death) metal bands. Is that base custom made?
Feltmonkey: Best overall look, IMO. Very cool. Best part for me are the hanging branches with the skulls, those leaves look fantastic!
Chris56: Inspiring paintjob on the metal and skin. The base looks very nice too, like he just crushed that skeleton.

My entry: thanks for the votes! I case anyone is interested, it's made from a Beastmen body, head (+ Chaos Warriors horns) and arms. That open hand is from the Space Wolves Wulfen. Axe is made from two Beastmen axes and a Chaos Warriors standard.
I noticed my entry's name was changed into Beastman Shaman. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind that at all, but I'm just curious: what makes my entry look like a shaman? I'm not a WH player, converting/painting only so I'm not so familiar with all the ranks and types of troops in the AOS verse. I intended to make my Beastman look like a warrior with a brutal axe, threatning his opponents with that hand. Again, I don't mind the name change, (perhaps thats even better!) I just like to know why it would/could be more appropriate.

To be honest, that was just me guessing, with the outstretched hand and staff-like axe I figured it was some kind of caster. I can change it if you like?

If I don't see a specific name for an entry, I just guess at it as best I can and occasionally I'm just a bit off. Sorry!

This month‘s voting reflects how I see my entry very well... it is okay, but nothing special.... so it gets so few votes.
And many other entrys are much more eyecatching.
During the past challanges my entrys got more votes and I were more pleased with the results.
I like the juggernauts and I always wanted to paint one but as I started it was not really fun to me

There are a lot of great entries each month that don't get anywhere near the votes they deserve IMO. Just goes to show how good everyone's painting is; it's hard to stand out. I've never made the podium even with my very best work. But I have improved my painting tremendously since I began participating in these challenges, so that is what it is about for me.

In all these contests I think my best work might have made it to the to third or the pack, still a far cry from the podium. But Zerg has the right of it. It’s not about winning, it’s about self improvement. And motivation, community, branching out, experimenting, ,new techniques, clearing stuff off the workbench, and many other reasons. With a tiny little sprinkle of “winning” on top.

I try to cast a couple votes each time for "most improved" or "best new entry” but that requires my scatter brain to actually remember more then a month ago, so come voting time I often don’t remember. One thing do is to post WIP pics in the competition thread, explaining what you are doing, especially if you are pushing your personal envelope. Not only will this get you tips and advice from the crowd, but might net you some votes as well!

Thank you very much Chris56, straken619, Tim 121RVC

As promised

Nevelon: A big mighty Eldar and I really like the look of the base on your model.

Rybrook: Well done for entering some old school models, Its nice to see ones like this making an appearance, the helmet and cloak stand is a very nice addition.

Vejut: Interesting animals again and they do have a very mighty Cannon

Rouven: Great painting I like how the tone of the green lightens near the plague spots and wonderful rush

Kustomer D: Good contrast between the black and yellow. Nice model.

Porphyrius: You have got your black and white colour scheme down perfectly, Very good clean painting

ZoBo: I always know when you have painted a nurgle model well because it makes me not want to look at it for too long (its the toenails, how you paint them really freaks me out) Well done on your wonderfully putrid skin

Paradigm: The photos seem to have lost some detail (when I zoned into look at it in more detail). Still a great entry from you as always

DrGiggles: First, welcome to the challenge and well done for finishing. I think photos can come out sideways if you upload multiple ones at the same time from a phone. (not sure if you did that) A good solid entry, with a nice red and bronze colour. Well done, looking forward to seeing more from you.

Straken619: He certainly looks mighty and intimidating, the cloak is my favourite part.

Midget Gems: Turned out ok I think, made a few mistakes but I had fun doing it which was the main thing, was nice to get back and do a conversion.

jb1981: Very clean paint job and a lot to get done in a month. Well done.

Power Elephant: I like the rust effect you have created. And the sign is a cool extra.

ZergSmasher: A cool looking model and some nice detail with different colours to draw the eye in.

SirOllox: I've always liked those mounts and yeah I'd like to paint one too (an ork conversion of course ) shame you didn't have fun with it

Inquisitor Lord Bane: pretty mighty hammer, best part is the face mask I think, well done for finishing this month

lipsdapips: Absolutely stunning banner, I can only wish my freehand was that good. He's going to look brilliant on the battlefield with all your other Ultramarines.

Jadenim: You have done really well on giving life to the face, great detail on it with all the different shades.

SmallChanges: I think you have nailed the purple cloth it looks very good, picking out the writing in gold has created nice areas of contrast to the silver armour. The heat burn on the flamer is a nice idea.

Modock: Well when you dropped this bomb on us and ran off it was pretty impressive, love the muscle and skin tone and the axe itself is wonderful.

Suzuteo: A very good conversion and that style sits very well with the Blood Angels, would love to see a whole unit of these guys

ssisal: Yay you get a vote just for entering a giant turtle. A really nice combination of bright colours across the 2 models, well done.

KernelTerror: This is a bit of a monster KT, you have managed to take you style and scale it up which is very impressive, I can tell this is one of your models without having to look at the author. Lots of detail with all the writing on it and a very cool sword/arm thing.

Craggy: The model has a good pose and sense of movement. I like that you have added little chipped patches to the shield.

Tim 121RVC: Nice conversion with a good paint job Tim, you've painted the leather skin well.

feltmonkey: You and your trees Felt, brilliantly painted again, great colour transition and mix of warm and cool colours sets the piece up wonderfully. As others have requested I think there needs to be an angry woodland group photo

Chris56: Love the diamond checker detail you've added and the skin has a really nice alive tone to it

 Rybrook wrote:

I'd echo what the others say about fun etc and this goes to anyone really if you want any advice on becoming a "better painter" or how to "get more votes" just ask in the thread, I'm glad the regular people who enter this challenge are all nice friendly people so they'll be happy to spare a few words. I try not to give out advice unless people ask for it. I liked your entry this month. Its nice to see the old models still around and being cared for, I think I gave you a vote for that reason

Another high-quality month!

Nevelon - A simple but effective paintjob. IT's a cool model, and the transfers help to add interest.

Rybrook - Nice straightforward painting. Bit of a weird model. An Ultramarine captain in his private bathroom?

Vejut - As always, interesting models from you. Colourful painting, but the photos are really out of focus.

Rouven - Lovely, quite subtle work. The green is fantastic, how you've brightened it around the pustules to give it a bilious look. A great first entry!

Kustomer D - Really nice. You've done a great job of highlighting the black, and the yellow is bold and bright.

Porphyrius - Clean, neat, and eyecatching.

ZoBo - I like all your Nurgle stuff, and this is no exception. Appropriately gross.

Paradigm - Quality stuff. My favorite part is actually his blanked out, bloodstained eyes.

DrGiggles - Decent tabletop stuff. It could possibly do with a few highlights to take it to the next level, but it's more than good enough for the table as it is.

Straken619 - A mad-looking thing. How big is it? It looks about a foot tall. Nice details on the face, and the cloak is good.

Midget Gems - Brilliant conversion, and very nicely painted too. With the photo though, did you use a light with a slight orange tint? There seems to be an orange glow to it that isn't just the (beautifully applied) rust effects.

jb1981 - Super neat, with very smoothly applied paint. It could perhaps do with a few more heraldry transfers to create a bit more interest, but it's great as it is.

Power Elephant - Pretty cool work. The green is fantastic, and I like the shield. The face could do with a bit more definition and contrast to make it a focal point. It looks like you've used some form of chipping medium (or the old hairspray and salt tachnique) to create the weathering. That's very difficult to control, and I think you've had more success on some areas than others. The big rusty patch on his right leg looks a bit odd, but the more subtle ones on his other leg and chest look absolutely fantastic.

ZergSmasher - Very cool Dark Angels tank. Really neatly painted, and the transfers look great. Good choice to make the gunner red, as well - good use of contrastic colours.

SirOllox - You've said you don't like it but I reckon it's fine. It's neat enough, and well painted generally. It could just do with a few more bits of contrasting colours and bits and pieces to create a bit more interest.

Inquisitor - The details on the mask are pretty nice. The trousers are perhaps a bit too bright! Good stuff overall though.

lipsdapips - Lovely stuff. Neatly painted, neatly highlighted, great details, and the banner is just exceptional.

Jadenim - You've done a great job of adding contrast to the metallic areas. The problem with using metallic paints is that all too often it ends up looking like a bit of plastic painted gold or silver (this happens to me quite a lot) but you've avoided this problem nicely, and the metallic areas contrast with each other as well. The face and freehand symbol are great too.

SmallChanges - Another excellent shiny marine! I really like the sword, and it's great that you made him black. The 40K universe can't be just full of white guys, can it? Really great paint job.

Modock - Talking of really great paintjobs... The only problem is that we've come to expect this of you, mate. It's no surprise to see another spectacular paintjob from Modock. I particularly love the axehead. The use of the rusty colour to add contrast is masterfully done, and I'd love to know how you got such a realistic weathered metal look to the blade. I see you've used the dot technique on some areas again, such as the armour, which again looks fantastic. Enter Golden Demon.

Suzuteo - Cool conversion. It really works for a Blood Angel. That's a nice backdrop as well. I think your camera likes it, as it seems to have focussed slightly more on the backdrop than the miniature!

ssisal - Interesting conversions, although I think Alarielle on the turtle works better than the other one, if only because you've stuck the carraige right on the beetle's head! Very colourful paintjobs too, just about the right side of garish.

KernelTerror - An indescribable horror! Great job following through with something so utterly mad. It looks amazing.

Craggy - Good tabletop stuff. Nice variation on the areas of black and red on the armour, and good highlighting work on the face tp draw the eye.

Tim 121RVC - Great beastman. His furry skin and hairy legs are excellent, and the use of the green to break the miniature up is really effective.

Chris56 - Great stuff. The skintone is terrific, I like the little touches like the weathering on the leather and the skeleton's sword, and as always your non metallic metal is excellent. The photos are slightly blurry, which is a shame, but it's a fantastic paintjob.

feltmonkey - Yeah yeah, another bloody tree. I enjoyed painting it a lot, and am pleased with the result. Thanks to everyone who has voted for me, and to lipsdapips, ZergSmasher, Chris56, straken619, Tim 121RVC, and Midget Gems for the comments. You guys are right - I will have to post some pics of my whole Sylvaneth army soon. Then you'll see how much they don't look like an army at all! Just a bunch of individually painted miniatures of different tones.

Such an interesting month, I love it when there's so much diversity to gaze at.
Thanks a lot guys for the kind words and votes!

Is that base custom made?

Yes, it's made from bark I found outside. I really like bark, IMO it's the best material for a natural stony/rocky look.

OK the entries that stood out the most:

Rouven: I love everything about it. Great use of airbrush, the green tones are very appealing and the rust effect is spot on. Amazing entry, really!

ZoBo: very slimey and hideous like it should be. The green tentacles adds that little contrast to make whole model look more interesting. Nice touch.

Midget Gems: woohoo, you played you're A-game with this one. A seamless conversion and with a cool pose to boot. I like the dusty paint job,
it goes so well with the base. One thing that I'm scratching my head for is the wolf head on the sword handle...feels a bit lost...
Nonetheless a stunning piece.

Feltmonkey: Thanks Felt for the comment! Enter demon...lol
I was worried you won't finish the entry like you said and then you unleashed the treant. Beautiful entry. I think this one has a smoother
paint job than the previous trees. I like it that the color scheme is a bit different. I love the blue inner core and it goes really well with
the orange details. Smooth blend on the sword and that base is great too. Gorgeous mini.

Chris56: Very smooth and clean paint job. The blends are flawless and that face expresion is just golden. Also nice job with the red checker.

I also voted for Nevelon, lipsdapips and Tim 121RVC. I know I voted for a few more but for the love of god I can't remember.

Thanks again guys and special thanks to Para.

Thanks for the warm and good comments and the five votes, thats the most ive ever gotten in one of these challenges! and its my best work so far so im stoked.

I was a tad worried that I be able to get Alarielle repaired in time to submit her. We had some company over one night after a gathering.. one of which ended up using her as a bloody beer coaster, wich caused her left wing to beak off. she slid off the turtle because that glue didnt hold hold as we as I thought and was on the table in middle of my living room. cuz it was domestic swill that person lost their rights to come back ever. Wasnt too hard to repair, not as hard as I thought anyway. just had to hold her In place for roughtly two hours.. 4 episode of the new voltron on netflix.

The story with the turtle...named Felsig by...is that last fall to celebrate their two-score years of being married my parents went to visit a turtle sanctuary in Mexico my dad took a ton of pictures and videos of the babies sea turtles with his phone. Than, the next week he passed away from a sudden massive heart attack. The leaves here In Minnesota were just starting to turn colors.. they were still very bright and vibrant colorful.. not browns and wilted yet.

when dad was called back home, I got mom a digital photo album to put the Four-thousand-some pictures and videos from his phone onto. a good portion of which were of those sea turtles... so since last October to now that thing has been playing random constantly. one of those turtles cept coming up alot. it was mostly albino with a few markings that looked like wood.

The turtle named Felsig after dad ist my version of that turtle being magically enhanced.

Alarielle I wanted to to show also as both the seasons. she is the embodiment of life. her wings are painted as are the haustas in both moms and my yards in summer. her leafs are fall and spring. her staff is winters chill.. her skin I tried to do as bark.. she is her own tree. I love the minitaire ghost tints. cut w a little water.. and brush on w a wash brush.

my aos army started for one of my pathfinder campaigns. used a treelord as my joten forest giant pc.. than some dyads as dryads.. I am running kingmaker so fey are a common foe.. the turtle is all the points I can bring as allies.. it costs the same as Durthu..but ist a turtle! id only bring the two together.. so it made senze in my head to throw her on there.

the beetle named bailey after a funny comic was painted while watching the dark crystal a couple times.. the assorted branches and blades did not look good to me on the turtle so the only place to mount the howdah was onto the top pincers. the only reason those aelfs are alive is by her will alone. the Ma’harr does not dare chain it so more vines in spring to early fall leaves. The howdah now flows with lifeband not water magic so greens.. also to balance the blues and purples of Bailey some.

tldr: thanks. these models mean alot to me. as far as my votes this month.. my girlfriend picked five she thought were amazing other than mine.. I dunno who she voted for. everything ivd seen here deserves scores more votes than they got. amazing work every single one of you be very proud of what you accomplished. you set out with a goal in your head and accomplished it. those that had to bow out for time. do not stop painting them. post them in the other thread, I cant be the only one that wants to see how they turn out. ive had to bow out or just not said anything a few times last year..but I finished then for me and im happy with them.

May your paints never harden in the pot, may your brushes never frey, and do not forget those two thin coats... but more importantly have a great day.

Congratulation to all the winners!

All in all, I have to say that there were some really inspiring entries in this month's competition and I found it very hard to decide on the ones that I liked the most. I'm glad that everyone is allowed to vote for as many entries as he/she likes.

And thanks for all the nice comments on my Plaguburst Crawler - I'm really happy that you liked it.
