What do you guys think?

I was going to get Soul Wars this weekend but I'm having some doubts with regards to it.

Due to the small numbers of models in it that don't meet the matched play requirements it seems like it will be harder to actually get them to MP level than just buying the boxes themselves.

Most notably the Evocators... as you'll have to buy 5 of them anyway to get them to min. Then have 3 left over.

Thoughts?

If you're playing competitively... I'd say that the evocators are pretty much the go to unit in that box. And as you noted you don't get enough.

only problem im finding now is you need it to get the Lord Arcanum...

so what I'm thinking is Soul Wars + tempest to get the 5 evocators.

It's meant to go with Tempest of Souls, which includes the two 'basic' Evocators from Soul Wars but no Evocator Prime.

Honestly the hardest one to get up to Matched Play requirements is the Grimghast Reapers. It gives you 4 and they're meant to be a unit of 10.

Only if you want the Lord-Arcanum on Gryph-Charger! The Tauralon can build an Arcanum on foot if you build Aventis Firestrike and it looks like the Evocators on Dracolines can build a Lord-Arcanum as well.

Hmm didnt notice the Evocators could build one too! That's good to know.

I think i'll have to go with SW and Tempest + Souls.

Seeing how I play death too cant hurt to have all the spare nighthaunt dudes.

Soulwars+Tempest still leaves you with a surplus of sequitors and castigators. Building a Lord Arcanum from the box of Evocators on Dracoline leaves you understrength for the unit, too. I like that they add the options, but for matched play it's suboptimal unless you share with others or sell singles off.

Tempest of Souls gives you two Sequitor Primes(one with greatmace and one with mace+shield) plus 3 normal Sequitors(2 mace+shield 1 greatmace) and a Castigator Prime and 2 normal Castigators.
Soul Wars gives you 5 Castigators(4 regulars and a Prime) and 8 Sequitors(the same Primes as Tempest of Souls and 6 Regulars, same setup as Tempest of Souls).

All told those two give you:
2 Castigator Primes
6 normal Castigators
2 Sequitor Primes with Greatmaces
2 Sequitor Primes with Mace and Shield
6 Sequitors with Maces and Shield
3 Sequitors with Greatmaces

With that inventory, you can do:
2 units of 3 Castigators with 1 normal leftover, in case you want to field a single unit of 6.
1 unit of 10 Sequitors with the Sequitor Prime having a choice between Greatmace or Mace+Shield and 3 Sequitors with Greatmaces
2 units of 5 Sequitors with the Prime having a choice between Greatmace or Mace+Shield and all the Greatmaces you can fit in there.
