First of all greetings! I am only just getting into the hobby and looking to maybe get myself a nice Tau army going. I've read the 8th E rulebook and the new codex for Tau, but found myself stumbling when it comes to the specific rules detailed here and there.

I found it confusing that rules are referenced in the codex/rulebook when there wasn't a glossary of terms. The rules surrounding blind, night vision, stubborn, and other such base terms are nowhere to be found, and even scouring the web I have been unable to find a consolidated list of the things. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Gw is exceptionally bad with their rules writing. What rules in particular are you having trouble with?

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

It sounds like you're looking at a 7th edition codex. There are no general rules for "blind", "night vision" or "stubborn" in 8th.

It sounds like you actually have a 7th or 6th edition Codex - Blind, Night Vision and Stubborn are all special rules from previous editions that are not present in 8th. The simplest test (as GW have a habit of re-using Codex cover art) is "do the units in my Codex have a Movement statistic?", if not, then it's an old book.

It would look like I have the 7th ed codex then. Thanks for the quick answers guys, I'll see if I can find an 8th ed codex in my store.

The correct one has an apostrophe in "Tau" as they're now called T'au in 8th.

Probably because their lawyers told them about difficulties maintaining a trademark on a name that's also the name of a Greek letter of the alphabet and also a mathematical expression.

Same reason why the renamed the Imperial Guard, and slapped "Adeptus Astartes" onto the front of all the Space Marine codexes. Look up the "Spots the Space Marine" debacle for more background. In short, GW Tried to trademark bully a book called "Spots the Space Marine" (this was 2013 so I assume it was the Kirby Dark Ages) over the term "Space Marine", but got rebuffed and basically had to back off because they knew they'd lose any lawsuit over it due to the term Space Marine dating back to the 1930s, well before GW were even a company.

Thus began the great purge of anything and everything that could be construed as non-trademarkable. Space Marines were rebranded as Adeptus Astartes (Notice how the book is now called Codex Adeptus Astartes Space Marines, and not Codex Space Marines), Imperial Guard as Astra Copywritum Militarum, Stormtroops as Militarum Tempestus, Tau as T'au and so-on and so forth. This also happened in Age of Sigmar. Orcs are now Orruks, Ogres are now Ogors etc. I am guessing 40k Orks got away with it because of the k instead of a c.

The correct one has an apostrophe in "Tau" as they're now called T'au in 8th.
And now it's properly pronounced 't-ow' (like t'chala) and not "TOW" (like cow)
