Pop quiz folks: Rumor has it that this fringe-world bandit militia, a semi-heretical mob of cutthroats, abhumans and insubordinates, may be joining an Imperial Kill Team to help expedite their martyrdom.

Can you identify all of these vintage GW miniatures?

L-R

#1 2nd ed 1997 Imperial guard stormtrooper Sgt#1 ( 72246/2) (metal). The troops were in plastic, special and heavy weapons in metal. The first iteration of the stormies for guard.

#2 Is this model from the "pirates and adventurers" page of the 1988 GW catalog. ) #29
(Incidentally, 27 is a female model wearing power armour as used by the astartes of that period, but she has never been identified as a "marine" - but if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's probably not a cow.).

#3 Imperial guard Beastman 401011 1989

#4 I don't know.

#5 looks like an old Necromunda ash waste nomad

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

That last one doesn't look to be GW.

Well done chromedog. We knew the ratling cook was GW, but did not know the source.

#4 is a Rogue Trader space pirate named Lan Duval

#5 is a Necromunda Ash Waste Nomad with Sniper Rifle

Thanks for playing.

4/5 ain't bad.

(I'm counting "Looks like an "ash waste nomad" as an ID. )

I have the SOLegends Citadel archive bookmarked - it's a great reference for the RT- 4th ed 40k stuff - but post those editions it's a bit sparse.

If something looks like a 40k mini (with the characteristic bits of design that GW use to identify weapons*) but it's a little ropey, it's probably a Fanatic model.

*the muzzles of las weapons, meltas and autoguns have been the same since the game came out. Plasma weapons have the ribbed area. Eldar weaponry has had the same sort of design consistency since they stopped simply using the same weapons as human models.

I would say the Ash Waste Nomads were more rare than the Skullz Mechanicus. At least the Mechanicus were advertised in White Dwarf.

I'm pretty sure I still have the unpainted mini #4 (Lan Duval) deep in a box somewhere. Does anyone want it? I bought him in the 1980s. PM and trade me a different mini, vintage or otherwise.

We picked up some pre-owned Ash Wastes Nomads on eBay several years ago. They're still waiting for their promised restoration. And are growing restless.
