Finally getting around to some space robots.

This is currently where I'm up to with them, so far I have the start collecting box and an additional 8 warriors to bring the squad up to a full 20. I've built everything in the box besides the annihilation/command barge (I'm thinking more towards the command and leaving the lord off of it so when I use it I can put my actual warlord onto it), I've also not built either lord as I've actually ordered a third party one to use as the warlord for this; although I'll have to paint up a normal overlord as well in case I play soomewhere that would rather me just use GW models instead.


Scarabs I'm going to build as 3 to a base as that's how many wounds they have so it makes more sense to me.
Also rather than the little flight sticks they have, I've got them on small bits of sprue, so they maintain the same height, and I'm going to build the bases up around them a bit so they look like they're scuttling across the ground instead of just floating.


It's actually been a bit difficult to get good pictures of these as they're all metallic and because I haven't actually taken any pictures for a while now.
But this is how much of a difference lighting to no lighting makes to them.



Getting the glazing consistent took a little bit of messing around, which was done on those 8 warriors until I liked the look of it. Then those immortals became the standard template for it as I made sure to note down each and every step along the way to replicate it as close as possible each time; I've never really bothered to take painting notes before but I feel like if I don't for this I'm going to have trouble keeping things nice and consistent; especially when making units of 10 immortals 5 at a time.

Not all of us drybrush our Necrons! They're are literally dozens of us...DOZENS!

Got the Immortals done, still trying to get used to a full metallic scheme (especially trying to take pictures ) but getting there I think.

But they are.
I start with a black prime, spray leadbelcher trying to get a little less on the underside (but not trying too hard), layer of stormhost silver everywhere but those undersides, 2 glazes of guilliman blue, a light drybrush of stormhost on all the raised surfaces (and touching up any wash that may have got on the weapon a bit), then finally one more glaze of guilliman blue. 3 seemed to be good for the colour I was after before but it looked too flat, but that tiny bit of stormhost seems to pick it back up a bit again.

The weapons though are just two straight washes of nuln oil then stormhost highlights; probably could have just dumped everything into nuln oil then drybrushed stormhost actually.

The model I ordered to be the Warlord/Overlord/Phaerakh of this dynasty I still haven't named yet arrived today. Only problem with models from these guys is they tend to be designed for whatever base they come with and with this particular model it's even really tricky to get it to sit right on the base it comes with; which I found out after sawing it in half so it wouldn't just be a 25mm base glued onto a 40mm one.



Pretty sure the model is intended to be a cryptek, however the weapons it has and such seem suitable enough to be an overlord. It has exactly what the plastic one comes with anyway.
I'm not sure if I'll use it as a voidscythe or a warscythe yet; I'm leaning more towards a warscythe, but since its ws 2+ it doesn't seem too much of a big deal to use the void instead.

They look good though. You've got a nice contrast between the blue/purple/silver of the model with the green splash on the base. Defo worth the effort put in.

Hey, drybrushing is a totally legit technique that's just often used lazily.

She's from wargame exclusive, the same guys that do those cool alternate heads for the ad mech robots and the cars.

Finished the Phaerekh, still no name for them yet.





Also got the 12 warriors from the start collecting about halfway through the metallic blue, they're just after 2 glazes before the light drybrush of stormhost to bring the shine back up a bit again.


The first 8 already had their blue done as the initial test models for it, so it kind of shows the difference the stormhost then third glaze makes to them. They're along the back in this picture.

Aahhh. That's better. Some garish pink drybrushing. Normalcy is restored.

Checked out wargame exclusive. They have some... uh... interesting models available.
They do have some excellent sculpts though. Bookmarked a few for future purchase.
