About 6 months ago I was about to buy X-wing but then someone warned me 2.0 was just about the corner. Luckily I was moving country anyway for 6 months but now I'm going back to the uk in October I want to jump in. However, should I? A lot of the ships I wanted to grab are getting a price increase and or potentially new models. So I do not want to grab older models then a conversation kit for models that will look better in new kits (especially as a new player eith 0 ships right now). So how long do you think I should hold off before most of the kits are already out?

Additionally, ome of the big things dragging me towards the game (being a 40k player) is the epic mode and the big ships. I know armada exists (And I might also get into that) but the big models that will look awesome on the feild dont seem to be making it over to 2.0 any time soon? Anyone got any info on that?

I'm looking forward to this as well. My favorite version of X-Wing is the 2v2 Epic games with one player on each side fielding a big ship... though it does bother me that the Raider is probably the smallest of them for some reason.

I love big ships but nobody near me plays armada. So Epic is the only way I can get huge Star wars action! But a apart of me kinda wants it in normal games as well. I know most x wing games are 100 or 200pts but why not just have a 500 or 1k point every so often... xD I feel if I spent enough on this game (I'll probably buy like max 10 imperial ships) I could get some cool stuff set up but nobody will play it. To me, Star Wars is all about snubfighters duking it out with the capital ships trading blows in the background. Epic X-Wing does that better for me than Armada. Epic itself I think works best as a 2v2 experience though. I generally don't like team games because they feel slower, but in X-Wing it actually speeds things up to have two people setting dials and moving models. 400 points felt pretty good in 1.0. Hopefully it becomes available in 2.0 sooner than later.

ok so 2nd edition launches i think september 13th, along with wave one of releases, FFG have already started promoting wave two so i would imagine by christmas this will also be available.
My advice would be get the new starter and maybe one or two more ships if you like the look of them or a second starter ( DONT buy the dice seperate!!!. If you want to play Imperials, an extra couple of tie fighters may be a good idea.

Other than that, as far as new ship cost vs used + conversion kit, yeah, for people new to the game, id say get the new releases instead. Its going to be a good time to get into the game as everyone will be just getting used to the new rules (which bi have to say are looking much more fun than the bloated card mess of the last couple of waves of first edition)

You really have to math the new vs old ship thing. A conversion kit is less than 3 ships in it by $10, so basically, if you can get old ships for around $5 a piece, its probably worth getting old ships. If someone demands something like 10? Get at least 5 and you're still good.

It's annoying that I'm away from the uk now because I saw someone sell their entire Empire collection for like £150 and it was like £400 worth of ships. XD

what's in wave 2? I like big ships and tie fighters... if I was a millionaire I'd buy like 50 tie fighters and a bunch of ships and then just place thr in squadrons and pretend their 1 unit. XD

Ebay always has lots of good bulk deals on ships of people just dropping their whole collection. That might be the cheapest way to come in if you want lots of stuff

Yeah, the group I supervise on Facebook has people leaving the game every month, so they are always eager to sell their collection. Since you just want the ships, its even simpler that way.

The thing with Epic is, it's fun, but from time to time. Unless you have a lot of spare time with your gaming group. The basic game is great because you can get a game in under 90 minutes.

I play 40k 2k points vs pure IG. We have the time

There is no news on epic for v2 yet unfortunately.

I might hold off unless I see a good deal online then. As much as small games might be fun the big ships just have a certain feel to them when they're on the table.

There are many good deals to be had! (seriously, I saw one bloke selling over a hundred ships for US$55!) Its worth noting that V1 remains totally playable as do its variants. If you enjoy more RPG style games then Heroes/Villians of the Aturi Cluster (a fan mage team game) is well worth the effort.

Yes, Heroes of the Aturi Cluster is great fun!

That is how I got into X-wing; I bought a huge lot from someone getting out of the game a year or so ago. I would imagine now the prices are a bit lower for the right deal.

I've even been seeing Epic ships going for cheap, but since we don't know what'll happen to epic I'm a little wary of buying any. the last thing I want is to shell our for a Raider and have FFG just release a new one with updated cards and cardboard.

Yeah, part of me wants to buy a bunch of ships for cheap but part of me doesn't want to learn there is a new one with a better paint job and model.the grey Tie fighters don't sem to be any different thouh so kight try to stock up on them if I see them cheap. I want a really classic Imperial army!

The only other model that is confirmed to be getting a resculpt is the TIE silencer (which was massively too big) there is no news on repaints yet, but overall the quality is pretty good for the Imperial range. Apparently the alternate paint jobs are going away so these would be worth picking up (Royal Guard TIE/in and TIE/d, bloodstripe TIE/in, Gamma sqd TIE/sa) if you are liking them.

Ahhh, so maybe it would be better to get them 2nd hand... there are a lot of models going cheap. I bought like 5 out of curiosity for £15 which is basically nothing. They're all small ships though.

Some stores are also letting go of stock at a discount, so you might have a look at that. Not mine, though. The locals are savvy enough to know that those new releases are going to be squeezed through FFG's tight pipeline. I had to buy a French version of a ship to get all the copies I wanted before 2nd Ed.

Yeah, it's difficult not living in England for a few months. I've ordered stuff online using what's left of my paypal and sent it to my parents. So i might miss out but who knows...
