Okay, going back to a previous post I saw in N&R, I've been looking over Amazon for those little metal puzzle buildings and trying to determine if any would be useful for the new Adeptus Titanicus game.

EDIT: I've been looking over these at my local Walmart and Rite-Aid and they're really too small for AT.

The Arc de Triomphe kit or the Roman Trevi Fountain could serve as splash terrain and decorative bits on other kits could be added to what FW/GW is releasing to give some added flavor but that's up to you.

Unfortunately, just having their dimensions really doesn't give much insight into how a given kit looks setting next to a fully assembled Warlord or group of Knights.

All looks to be well below warlord's size. Milan being closest one to actually cover it. Not much would likely be visible. Stuff like Kennedy is tiny compared to warlord. Salt lake looks to be about halfway.

Would look to be decent alternatives.

As I commented in the rumours AT thread a little while ago; as we're dealing with 8mm scale, that gets us pretty close to Z-Gauge railways (1:220). Appropriate buildings seem a little hard to come by, though. Kibri make a suitable cathedral...



... but not too many of our railroading cousins are into grimdark as a layout theme...

Keep in mind that N-Gauge (1:160) could probably be modded easily, or you might just imagine Titans being a bit smaller in your head-canon...

The titans aren't smaller, the buildings are bigger!

Not where I can easily link, but I suspect that the nano LEGO kits would be perfect for this sort of thing - and being LEGO, gives you near infinite building possibilities.

I keep seeing 1:200 as 8mm scale. Is this correct? If so then Z-gauge train kits may be the closest. Unfortunately, most kits in that scale are rural Americana in nature and visually date to the 1940s and 1950s.

I found a few possible contenders at the 1:200 scale while searching but the footprint makes me wonder if they are too large or if I just can't properly visualize the scale.

At 25" x 18" x 11" we have a 1:200 model of Notre Dame. It's printed on paper, instead of being a plastic model so it might not be for everyone. On the other hand, it's in full color and super detailed.

Is that cathedral made from brass parts? I've heard horror stories about those, where you pretty much have to bend tiny brass plates into shape first.

The Microworld one is brass. The rest are steel. I haven't had the opportunity to look them oven in person but given the dimensions, I'm worried they're on the small side to be useful.

The footprint of wargaming buildings is usually much smaller than a proper scale model, as the ground scale is much larger than the model scale. The buildings end up being very tall and narrow. If the ground scale of Adeptus Titanicus were the same as the miniature scale (assuming for a moment that it's 1:225*) then a 4' x 4' tabletop would give a battlefield of only 275 metres square. The frontage of the Palace of Westminster is about 300 metres. That model of Notre Dame cathedral? The cathedral is 128 metres long. At 1:225 scale, it should be 57 cm, 22", long.

* If "6mm" is 1:300, then "8mm" is 1: (300 8 8 / 6)

I'm noticing that some "3d puzzle" kits are literally puzzles - as in jigsaw puzzles. Be very careful about this if you decide to go this route as they look nice in the photo but the jigsaw pattern will be visible on the tabletop and quite distracting.

Here are some pics of the new AT plastics against a couple pieces of the old Epic 40k stuff for comparison.

This first bit looks like it could be useful with the new stuff to make a sort of cathederal style tower, depending on pieces used and your ability to kitbash and convert.



This second one is a bit more extreme in the difference in style and look. I'm not sure how it would work as part of a conversion but perhaps someone else could come up with something.

I'll need to upload a photo, but the card buildings fro Dropzone Commander scale pretty well with these Civitas Imperialis sets.

Keeping in mind virtually every model railway building larger than a small house is drastically undersized (for reasons noted above), similar to how the trains are made from correct scale bits but nowhere near enough of them..

have a look at the "N" gauge card buildings, 1:148 scale, Metcalfe do a nice range with a Brewery complex that could pass for oversized industrial windows

I'm a little confused here. Are you saying that N gauge buildings are a better fit for AT than Z gauge?

How out of scale are the old AT card buildings? I’ve got a whole box of them, and am curious if they’d be worth breaking out for a game (once my new minis arrive).

That's a very good question - I eagerly await the answer!

It just might be that GW has 'upscaled' a scale that they're claiming to be working in, because...reasons?

(Mostly 'painting is easier' but maybe there are others?)

I also would be interested in the older Epic card/plastic "cross" style buildings up by the new Titans.. I also have a sh'load of em..

Some of lines are no longer around, but still is a good resource. From looking at the sites, the best deal remains the DZC paper terrain sold by TTCombat these days and GW's actual AT. You're looking at $10 for a matboard building from some of these shops.

A lot of the items look gorgeous, but they are not cheap.

I don't know if they're still on the site, but DZC fans should have copies of the PDF print-your-own buildings that Hawk Wargames did early on - basically identical to the card models in the starter set, but allowing much more variety. A friend of mine was printing them out at 60% size and gluing them to foam blocks to use for Epic Armageddon scenery.

Some of the components of the old Cities of Death terrain could also be used. Probably some of the new kill team terrain as well.

Sector Mechanicus terrain, e.g. Galvanic Magnavent has some components which are really nice for a huge promethium refinery.

Some of the Pegasus terrain, thinking technobridge in particular (if still available).

The old, now quite hard to find, FW epic buildings (cathedral, tank factory, administratum, censorium, and librarium)

I'd rather have someone do thinner bases. I rebased my Warhounds, Knights and other Epic models that used standard slottabases onto these from Renedra but they don't make 120x92 or 105x70mm ovals. Off to Warbases, then.
