Can anyone suggest some figures or gaming minis which could pass for 1:48 scale (+ or - a bit)? Mainly looking for sci-fi "maintenance crew" and especially a female pilot.

The Star Wars Legion figures are heroic 1:48 (large heads and hands). Some of the newer Infinity figures and also some Heroclix would also be very close, there's a bunch of civilians done throughout the sets that might work. The 5th figure from the left here inbetween the Rebel Commander and the Stormtrooper is a 1:48 modern British soldier from a Revell model kit. The PanOceania Fusiler (in blue and brown) is nearly a spot on match, but the scale for Infinity figures is inconsistent over the years, all the new stuff is deliberately bigger than the old (that Fusilier is part of the new stuff)
