Twisting Tzeentch Horror

So, years ago I bought the Belakor model just to be a daemon prince. I never used him as the character. I though I might try him in 8th. However he is 100 points more than a winged daemon prince. He loses a point of strength (gets it back on the weapon +1) +2 attacks and movement over a normal prince. However his save is one less (4+) and he does not have the 4++ that the tzeentch princes have (that is the god I play). Now, his weapon is really good -5 ap 3D he has -1 ld bubble and can re-roll saves. It just seems like on paper that the improvements are not worth 100 points more than a flying Tzeentch Prince (especially mine from Thousand Sons). Anyone use him and like him? It seems like he should be like 210 or 220 not 280

I've tried him a few times. His meagre power selection and outrageous points cost made me regret it every time.

Which Codex did GW put him in? CSM or Daemon? Or he stuck in the Index?

Ah, yes. The Daemon prince who has powers that only work on CSM, so he can't cast them on himself.

Truly a powerful unit.

I weep.

Blood Angels, Custodes, Tzeentch, Alpha Legion, Astra Militarum, Deathwatch, Thousand Sons, Imperial Knights, Tau, Genestealer Cult.

I have a problem.

Being contrary for the sake of being contrary doesn't make you unique, it makes you annoying.

Daemonic Dreadnought

Eye of Terror

He's in Codex Chaos Daemons.

He takes 2 powers from the Dark Hereticus discipline listed in that book, which includes Death Hex, Infernal Gaze, and Gift of Chaos. Since his psychic powers are all offensive, they would never be cast on CSMs or any of your other troops.

The main problems with him come down to keywords. He lacks an < ALLEGIANCE > keyword, meaning he doesn't fit into mono-god detachments without losing the Daemonic Loci. It also means he can't be buffed, psychic powers and Loci only affect units with that God's mark. The only benefit to the lack of a keyword is he can summon units of any God, which is not totally worthless.

That said, he's got 14" movement, he hits on 2s, he's got 8 wounds, he rerolls all saves, he has an aura that lets everybody around him reroll all 1s to hit, and he has a 12 inch -1 morale bubble for enemy units. The Blade of Shadows is AP-5 D3, which is great for killing heavy infantry / vehicles, and his Malefic Talons give him 12 attacks.

In the games I played him, he was either a complete beast or went down quickly. Each time, I put him in a Patrol detachment to get him on the table, which cost me command points. But using him with Denizens of the Warp is a guaranteed way to smash something, stick him behind a building and move up to strike on the second turn. Remember, his model is small, there's lots of ways to get cover.

He might not be worth 280 points, but he outclasses Daemon Princes in certain roles. I'd like to try him in a Flying Circus with some Daemon Princes and Bloodthirsters, I think that's the optimal list for using him.

Belakor can fly in, cast Death Hex on Guilliman, then kill the Primarch in one round.

A Imperial Guard command squad can take 5 Sniper Rifles and kill Guilliman in one turn, just because something can happen doesn't mean you should bank on that reliably.

Blood Angels, Custodes, Tzeentch, Alpha Legion, Astra Militarum, Deathwatch, Thousand Sons, Imperial Knights, Tau, Genestealer Cult.

While true, I'm PRETTY certain that Belakor's odds are slightly better than that.

I don't play Daemons though so I don't know his stats terribly well.

It's pure hyperbole, but he's pretty bad.

A Protoss colony world

He's not bad ruleswise, but he's overcosted by a country mile. He was 240 in the Index and that was already overcosted, but then when Codex: Chaos Daemons came out, he actually got BUMPED 40 points. When I heard that, I thought it was some kind of joke, but unfortunately it was real. Hopefully Chapter Approved fixes the problem, but I wouldn't count on it. GW seems to only want Be'lakor for narrative games or something.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

Be'lakor was a bit OP in previous editions so they nerfed him this edition.

They might have overnerffed him but Im honestly not sad to see him go. His reign of terror was long enough as far as im concerned.
