I play AdMech, so all of my models have dozens of flimsy bits. As long as you store it properly, it should be fine.
But if in doubt, you could try using acrylic gesso as your primer. Artists use it to make their canvases stiffer, not to mention add a bit more tooth. And I can attest from personal experience that models primed only in gesso don't get any chips even after being crushed by a 2 lb steel baking pan. Warning though: Gesso does go onto minis like a second skin, so you may lose extremely fine details.
