Anyone want to share old 1st edition lists and take a trip down memory lane?

I was cleaning out my gaming shelf and came across one of my first Morat lists, from back before MAF was a sectorial. We were playing mostly in the 150-250 range, since no one in our group had a full 300 point army at the time. Here's the list

250 pts/4 SWC

Daturazi Lt Combi/Shock CCW 23/2

Daturazi Combi/EXP CCW 23

Daturazi Chainrifle/Shock CCW 14

Suryat HMG 58/2

Suryat Multi Rifle 57

Vanguard Combi 16

Vanguard Combi 16

Vanguard Paramedic 20

Med-Tech 23

Neat stuff:

- Daturazi were the best close combat troopers inthe game with MA4, PH 14 and access to EXP CCW. The Daturazi Lt was expensive and risky but very nasty.

- Suryats were an insane 57 points, but were the only 4-4 MOV HI in the game and came with PH 15 and Shock CCW.

- Vanguard were 16 points each, with a 20 point Paramedic.

- These 3 options, along with the Raicho (which wouldn't get a model for years) were the entirety of the Morat line. So if you wanted to play a Morat list, this was all you got!

It was an interesting time. About 6 months after I started HS introduced the MAF sectorial with fireteams, Zerats, Sogarats, Rasyats, Yaogats and Hungries.

I think those were the days that I first laid eyes on the Cutter and asked if it was a playable model - but I didn't get into the game until early 2nd edition.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

It took a long time for me too. My friend knew I was a huge appleseed fan and showed me the first PanO and Yujing models when they came out. I thought they looked super cool, but I was kind of out of gaming at that point. A few months later I ended up buying the first Akal models (the super cool one that was lunging with his knife and his less cool HMG buddy) just to paint. At the time I guess everyone had the same idea, since that model showed up in panting competitions pretty regularly for years. Anyway, I kept track of Infinity after that, but it was a few years before I got back into actual gaming and convinced my friends to give the game a try.

It was more that I first laid eyes on the cutter at a con when nobody I knew actually played it.

Most of our clubs aren't "store" clubs, so you don't see a lot of games played in stores (and back then it was magic or nothing) so it doesn't tend to get much of a backing that way. Non-big company backed games get exposure from "Demo" events at bigger cons and clubs more than store days (although they are becoming more common these days).

One of the guys at a club I played at, had his cousin (who was one of the guys playing it at that con) and the main Sydney seller come up and do a demo day. I got interested in it after seeing a few games played through and bought a PanO starter. After 10 or so years, I'm onto 5 armies (maybe 7 since StarCo and Druze merc outfits can be done with a combination of those 5).

I got to look at a 1st ed book a couple of years back. More or less fluff identical to 2nd ed book, different cover.

All my ealy games featured a Hsien with multi-rifle, a ninja with combi-rifle, a Shaolin with combi-rifle and three Zanshi with combi-rifles, because that was all that was out.

I do kind of miss those days. No one had very many options, even if you bought every model for your faction. People tended to play with what they had, instead of proxying everything. There was no ITS and only a few missions, so games were mostly just death matches. Because the game was both new and growing, sometimes you'd encounter units or even whole armies you'd never faced before, and have to deal with something crazy you'd never encountered that would totally wreck you. Joan of Arc, Tiger Soldiers, the Avatar, Antipodes. I remember playing against a guy once who showed up with a PanO list featuring a TAG and a few HI, totally confident that no one could take him. He had never played against CA before and was totally floored when a pair of Daturazi rampaged through his entire army and took down his TAG in CC, then used Coma after they died to sepsetorize a Fusilier, who was his last model.

I think the game is a lot better now than it was then, but I do miss some aspects of the early days.

Most of my old lists were based on the old Haqq starter so no HI and an Irr order before i did anything. And a Khawarij! A naffatun blister got me around the 150 point mark. I played a lot against nomads at the time so the list was ok as there was nothing to hack in it but i needed reinforcements! I wanted a djanbazan HMG but couldn't buy one for love nor money as they were sold out on any websites that sold infinity (which wasn't a lot at the time). I had to wait months before they were eventually back in stock and built up a healthy hatred of intruder snipers in that time.

When i started with Ariadna i got three blisters that became the backbone of most of my lists 3 x line kazaks, 2 tankhunters and the vet kazak HMG. Came in at around 150 point depending on what options you took and had pretty decent firepower. Was also a decent base to expand on with various camo options or other cheapy chappies that were available. But it was always a bit of a struggle to keep a list to 10 models without going down the full spam route.

All sub-par list by todays ITS standards but lots of fun to play at the time!

Jesus, Intruders. Back when they really didn't have any good counter outside of an Impersonator.
