Please vote and explain why you chose jump pack marines or biker marines.

Also please include which marine army.

It isn't an easy answer because there is a qualifier... Jump Pack marines that aren't Assault Marines is my actual vote. Between Assault Marines and bikes I would choose bikes.

Reason? Deployment options, ability to ignore terrain, the non Assault Marine jump pack guys on average have more wargear options, and I think they look better.

I've gone for Jump Packs.

Most of my opponents place their share of the objective tokens upstairs, so whilst I prefer the threat range of my Dusk Raider Bikers, the ability to reach top levels and objectives is more important.

40k Armies
Imperium - (8,000 points Adeptus Astartes (Imperial Fists) / 2,500 points Primaris Astartes (Blood Angels) / 3,000 points Astra Militarum (Inquisition pretending to be Cadian... >.> ) / 2,000 points Deathwatch/Assassins (More Inquisition soup))
Forces of Chaos - (8,000 points Heretic Astartes (World Eaters/Renegade Chapters) / 2,000 points Chaos Deamons (Khorne Dedication) / 2,500 points Death Guard)
Xenos Hordes - (7,000 points Orks (Speed Freaks/Bad Moons) / 3,000 points Aeldari (Saim-Hann))

There's no answer to that question, because jump packs and bikers aren't inherently good or bad - but the units that use them are. So it makes more sense to look at those units instead.

Scout bikers are a somewhat useful source of cheap, mobile dakka and ravenwing black knights are kind of almost competitive. Custodes bikers are good.

Blood angel smash captains are really good right now. I'm not sure there are any other good jump pack troops. Inceptors, death company and sanguinary guard are sort of ok.

also really depends on CT. Obviously for BA you go jump packs.

For UM or DA you go bikes.

CT that support melee benefit more from jump packs as they can drop in and charge right away.

CT that support shooting are usually better on bikes as they tend to carry far more dakka.

I voted jump packs. Bikes are far more effective on the table but the idea of motorbikes playing an active shock assault role in a warzone is just wrong.

I realise this is in a setting with ghosts and daemons also playing an active part but cavalry charging bikes just bug me.

I agree that going into a firefight on a motorbike is obviously suicidal. I'm not really sure that firing yourself into a firefight propelled by a rocket, while holding a chainsaw, is a much better idea.

I think that just comes with the territory since the designers are British. It's culturally bred to mythologize the Calvary charge so mechanical steeds (bikes) is a good placeholder.

Jump Packs, because my army doesn’t get Bikes.

Jump Packs, because you can Fly, drop from a gunship, and bikes look silly. My preference is Night Lords Raptors, but I've also got two full squads of Ultramarines (Sons of Orar, ooorah!)

I voted bikes because bikes are awesome. But I play Eldar, so I may be biased toward bikes.
From a tactical perspective, however, Jump packs are probably better.

I wouldn't know. I've quit using both, even with BA.

Jump Packs, because the FLY keyword is so powerful. With my Dark Angels, I really like using Inceptors, and giving characters a jump pack gives them good mobility while not taking away their ability to move through walls of ruins if the need should arise. I use the same logic for my Chaos Space Marines characters; I have a Lord and a Sorcerer with jump packs, and they have all the mobility to get wherever they need to go. Bikes just have too many limitations in 8th, and are deceptively fragile.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

Its not even fair, Bikes are completely ruined due to 8th ed rules.

Bikes need a full overhaul to even be playable.

I'm Irish, weirdly the little flag thing for my original post came up USA. So I'm from a ye olde European background but even at that, charging bikes is just odd.

It's funny. My playgroup is terrorized by a SW biker deathstar fairly frequently. The weaker players, anyway. Turns out the +1 cover spells makes bikes pretty good.

Yeah, bikes aren't "ruined" in 8E. They actually probably play more accurately in this edition they prior ones. The problem is that they still carry the stigmas of prior editions, in which they were really good, and thus are costed a bit too high.
Drop the points roughly 25% or so and Bikes are very playable.

I think SW bikers get more guns than other factions. I don't know. I quit asking.

Oh yeah, Wolf Guard bikes. I was thinking of Swiftclaws. Indeed Wolf Guard anything are fully customizable vets, whether Power armoured Infantry, Terminators, with Jump pack or on Bikes

Emperor's own chaos marines. True in 1993, still true in 2018.

That's exactly how I felt the first time I saw the Wulfen models. I instantly thought they were a new Possessed Marines kit. It wasn't until I noticed all the regular SW models around them that I realized they were SWs

I actually like Scout Bikes pretty well. They get plenty of shooting and cost a little less than other bikers in exchange for a worse save.

Simply that Jump Packs can ignore terrain and allow better deployment options if in reserve.

Packs because I cannot stand bike models. I can imagine them being good - but the blocky mopeds that marines drive ain't to my liking.

I voted bikes, I like them would have been better if they still had jet bikes

Bikes, because they're faster and a Knight cannot walk over them.
Fly is good, however.

I can't condone a place where abusers and abused are threated the same: it's destined to doom, so there is no reason to participate in it.
