Hey yall!

Been a while since I posted. I have a new kickstarter on the go looking to fund a set of plastic orcs and plastic goblins.

Check it out here!

Easy pledge. Glad to see more of your minis in plastic.

I'm in as backer number 44! Others should note that these are PVC.

I am so in! The orcs were your only greenskin item I couldn't get previously, as they were so pricey (and sold out so quickly) in metal. I think they're a perfect fit for trying out plastic production. I'm in for two boxes

Just as an FYI: I asked Tre in the comments if he would be resculpting anything to account for PVC shrinkage. He said that he would be resculpting two pairs of legs and weapon hafts, but nothing else.

I'll admit to being a little worried about the fine detail on the goblins vanishing, but I am relieved that he is at least thickening weapon hafts.

I do agree the orcs are the safer bet - by far Tre's best sculpts to try in PVC, imo. You can always wait and see how things turn out before deciding your mix (or at least, I'm guessing Tre would be cool with that - he has always worked with me on any order I've had, Kickstarter or webstore).

His sculpts worked well for Bones. His Bones orcs and gnolls are the best in the entire Reaper range.

Yeah, I'll just steer clear of the goblins.

Love Tre's work, but I assume these are in the smaller 25mm proper scale like most red-box-games stuff?

It's the only thing keeping me from owning the entire damn range.

The orcs are whoppers - 45mm tall but still fit on a standard base. No issues with those being too small

Someone posted in the KS comments that they'll be taking size comparison pics with the metal ones

Yeah, I own almost everything Tre has done for Reaper, etc...but my fantasy collection simply outscales a lot of the Red Box stuff. I'd be stoked if any of the models are suitable for the larger more heroic scales.

Tre's newer stuff have been much taller. I've been using his stuff mixed with monolith conan and Blood Rage figures and there's not much difference.

your mind

This group seems to produce some very cool stuff...
If I didn't already have a few hundred fully painted and based fantasy orcs and gobbos in a wooden box where they have been resting under the desk at my feet for... ten years maybe now ... then I would consider it, but I can definitely see the attraction. Models seem very nice indeed.

I've found Red Box stuff to fit in extremely well with Lord of the Rings/Hobbit/Middle Earth whatever they call it now.

This is an extremely deserving project - I hope folks will jump on board! If we ever want to see more of Tre's sculpts in plastic, this is the ticket

Hey everybody,

Well I think it is obvious the project is just not going to make it to " funded" So it is with heavy heart that I feel this project needs to be canceled. I do appreciate everyone who pledged offering their support. I appreciate all of yall's positivity and encouragement and support in this campaign. The idea of producing a product in plastic is very exciting to me but I think it is very clear that this project is just not right for that effort.

For now I will continue to produce in metal and resin and will consider plastic again in the future with perhaps a different project.

For those of you who might be new Red Box Games products you can check out or catalog of awesome minis over at http://red-box-games.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=19&zenid=1061186ec2e80818a9031f68f4910694

And for those of you who ARE familiar with Red Box Games thank you all as always so much for your continued support and encouragement!

Cheers yall!

Darn shame. I was looking forward to his plastic orcs more than any other fantasy miniature kit this year.

For anyone who checked this out but didn't back this, could you share why? I'm sure it would help Tre for next time. I'm eager to see him make a kit in plastic. Is it because they weren't new sculpts, the price, concern about production, or something else?

I did like the look of the orcs, but not really an orc player/fan. I was tempted to get some for RPGs, but I already have my Bones Orcs (also by Tre) so even for that purpose I was already covered.

If this was for plastic barbarians or female soldiers in his style I would have not been able to pass up.

Because $40 plus shipping for 16 orcs is just too much.

And lots of individual parts for poseability is appealing to some, but a pain in the rear for me.

When I saw the thread I immediately clicked through, planning to pledge. I love Redbox goblin/orc sculpts, and had always wanted to get a bunch in one go. When I saw that they'd be produced in "high detail hard grade board game PVC" I changed my mind. I know there have been advances in production in this area in the past ten or so years, but as a painter first, I just do not trust the material, especially on those goblins with the thin little spears. If it had been metal or even resin I would have taken the plunge.

High prices for questionable quality product. The sculpts are technically impressive if thats the style of orcs you like, but to me some of them looked like slightly more realistic Warcraft kobolds.

I stated my issue above - I can't be sure how they'll scale with other stuff I own. The PVC would have been a huge turn-off for me as well, but I didn't even look that hard at the KS.

Yeah PVC was a major turnoff for me as well as the expense. I had no interest in the Orcs but was keen for Goblins, but not at that price in that material.

PVC is a non-starter for me, and limited use for orcs/goblins - proper 28-32 mm humans, tho? His talent is incredible, the models just dont fit my life as a hobbyist, much.

The choice of PVC, and the cost turned me off. For picking up figures that are vastly different in style to everything else out there, I need to be able to justify a quantity purchase. There's no way I get enough value out of them at more than $2 a figure, especially for PVC.

I have been keeping an eye on Red Box for several years, but the primary factor that has prevented me from buying a single figure has been cost. With such unique style, I want a matching army, and I can't do that with prices like that.

As an example, my latest project is a L5R Lion Clan army for KoW. I've gone with Perry metals and Warlord/WGF plastics for this one. If I place a large enough order directly with the Perry's, I save the 20% VAT, and get free shipping. They come in around $1.75 a figure. Warlord had their Sprue-sale earlier this year, so I snagged the plastics and a few army deals (with a few free boxes), that when added up are less that $.75 a figure. Got a whole bunch of Clan War figs at about $1/ea, and the total cost for the massive army will be negligible in comparison to what an army from RBG would cost.

Between that and my Landsknecht-to-WHFB Empire project, I have enough minis to paint for the next 2-3 years. It's all metal and HIPS, minus the odd Rising Sun figure I picked up to add a fantasy element.

I'm perfectly happy to pay the price for quality items, but when there are so many other cheaper options that can easily work with other lines, I tend to look elsewhere. If the price-point could come down to $32/box of 16, and it was HIPS, then you've got me. PVC and it would have to be around $25.

There are 238720302 other orc's out there. Ditto with skeletons, zombies, barbarians, dwarves etc.

No one else makes elves in an army format that isn't pre 1990 except GW, Oathmark and Last Sword, and Red Box's metal elf characters are IMHO the best elven figures out there. Make those in plastic and in Red Box style and you'll see it get funded.

.Only a fool believes there is such a thing as price gouging. Things have value determined by the creator or merchant. If you don't agree with that value, you are free not to purchase.

Yeah, that. Haven't even painted more than a handful of Bones I figures, either!

The only generic fantasy figures I've picked up were RPE's Wizard's Conclave, for its unusual and inexpensive metal figures, Hand of Glory, for its "hot swap" interchangeable hands, and MegaMiniatures, for its inexpensive and unusual terrain miniatures.

For "boutique" miniatures, I have Dark Sword's Stephanie Law miniatures, and KDM, both of which I have yet to paint. (If anyone wants my Dark Sword Miniatures for the amount I pledged, let me know!)

Mebbe Tre should offer miniatures for various boardgames taht are popular but don't have them?
