Hello, good evening, welcome; to nothing much. A no-holds-barred half-nelson and a lov- (stop that - V).
For various reasons that don't need to be explored on a public message board, I've developed some obsessions with both Slaanesh and Russian/Soviet history and so, in an effort to aid my ailing mental health with some much needed mindfulness, I have begun to put together a Slaanesh 'soup' based very, very, very loosely on the Kronstadt Rebellion and flavoured liberally with Russian/Soviet influences, obvious nods to the World Wars, self-deprecating Mary Sues, characters named after hockey players and plagiarizing pop culture wherever possible.
The plan currently is Renegades & Heretics, Daemons, Heretic Astartes, Drukhari, Renegade Knights and a Warhound.
I've organised the first couple of posts as a showcase, rather than start an actual showcase thread, mostly so that the people who are interested in painted models/executed ideas and who would like to avoid page after page of me blithering on can see what's new in the title and just click the relevant post to see them without having to wade, thigh-high, through BS to see a single painted soldat.

My intention today was to bang out all fifteen of the Cadians I currently possess, 'cause even after five months without a paintbrush in my hand it seems I still can't face painting more purple yet, as well as complete the terrain build, but like a tit I've gone and bought brown spray paint with a black cap on it and the Infantry Squad isn't primed, so... Here's the basic scheme, drab enough for a Worker's Defence Force?

Each gets a red star (natch) on their left shoulder and their squad/battalion/regiment (1/6/42, for example) on their right. I might make the sergeant's 'shoot-me' stripe red too, though since I'm going to give my Commander a red band on his peaked cap, maybe I won't.
Does anyone know where I can get a figure of The Motherland Calls! (see pic below) that's about the same size, or a little bigger, as the Space Marine statue?
I'm planning to make it the centrepiece of my board, if I can.
EDIT - Maybe I could make some changes to Zarakynel and ape the posture, instead? Probably beyond my skill level and definitely not the mini to be experimenting on.
I shall return in a few hours with a head full of Cardiacs, Kino and Ween (oh my!) and a completed KomBat Petrichenko and Command Squad. Pinky-swear.

WIP Renegade Commander and Command Squad
Phone pic, sorry. These guys are 95% done, I've ballsed up the Standard Bearer pretty badly so he's been sent back for a new undercoat and re-do. As you can see, I've added bitz to and posed the Commander in a way that makes him look stockier in an effort to make him look, essentially, like Zhukov. His name remains Stepan Maximovich Petrichenko, regardless. I didn't notice the mangled Plasma Gun muzzle until I saw this pic just now, or the wash drop on Plasma Boy's knee, or that his helmet has a chin-strap which I've painted as skin. Will sort those out too.
I'm aware R&H can't currently take Medics, but when (if) these guys go solo they'll be run as Astra Militarum, who can. I went with a purple-ish tone to their skin because i) they're in the process of being corrupted; ii) I'm familiar with how to do it already; and iii) I'm leaving myself the option to use them in a Genestealer Cult army, too. Tyranids were my first 'modern' army and I've always loved the whole 'zerg rush' thing. Also, again, budget is important to me so squeezing a Chaos army, an Imperial army and three-quarters (or more, if I want) of a Xenos army, all of which operate differently on the table, out of one set of minis makes my inner-skinflint rejoice.
The paint scheme I posted earlier ended up being entirely too drab, so I went with just the lighter grey instead.
I have an Infantry Squad on deck and once they're done I'll base them, the RC and the Command Squad in one go.
I'm going to try some photos of my Daemons on a black background, with a proper camera. I like how it's worked out for these guys.

Spent the afternoon rummaging in my bitz box. The downside of so many false-starts and sell-offs is of course that my bitz box is kinda sparse. Ho-hum.
So here's my initial, roughly bashed-together concept for Malefic 'Lords'. I am determined to get some women into this army, even if it literally needs to be via sorcery. For the time being they will remain on those bases and will get a skirt made from a mustard-tube, like Roree's, to hide the fact they have no legs. Eventually I'm going to build a female sniper in reference to Lyudmila Mikhailovna Pavlichenko and the band in my avatar, Kino, so at that point they'll get a pair of Spellcrow's Female Arcadian Legs (each, natch).

Do they read as female? I'm aware, by the way, that Malefic Lords have no weapons but I went for RoC and also these are the only workable arms I have in my bitz box, so that's what I'm stuck with. I'm not super happy with the Cadian laspistol and may replace it with another Escher gun or knife instead.
The weather here has been awful for priming/painting, so I haven't done any.
Did some work this evening on the Summoning Circles, which I'm calling done other than adding 'basing' materials and paint, natch, which will be done at the same time as the Statue Garden.
Liking your Slaaneshi cavalry, can't imagine the patience you have for each of those scales.
I really like the range of greys you've used on the renegade command squad, looking sweet. Looking forward to seeing what you do with the possessed lady guardsmen, they look sufficiently female, the paint will only improve it from there.
I have the same problem with taking photos too, they're crystal clear on my phone but it seems processing downs them quite a bit. Still though, good job!
FWIW, the Seekers are simply primed black, drybrushed Ceramite White and then doused in two heavy washes of Druchi Violet. The Command Squad is even simpler, prime black and drybrush a grey of my own mixing several times, lightly. I am very lazy and it is more important to me at this point to simply get things finished than to try and be snazzy and spend hours on each mini. The result is acceptable to me for the time expended, so it is what it is.
I've also decided that I don't like the Escher head on the Psyker, so it'll be pulled off and replaced with a Daemonette head.
EDIT - After a bit of jiggerypokery with camera settings, I think I have discovered the problem. The Escher pics were taken at 13MP and it would seem that Dakka has compressed them. The Command Squad and Summoning Circle pics were taken at 4.9MP and apparently haven't been compressed. So, counter-intuitively, it appears, on the evidence so far, that more MP means less-clear photographs.
EDIT 2 - I've found free, legal 3D printing.. plans? for The Motherland Calls!, which I think will result in a 13cm tall figurine, which is about 4cm shorter than Herself. How easy would it be to 'embiggen' the plans? I have no experience at all in 3D printing, it may as well be magic.

That's an insanely sexy miniature, but sadly too overtly daemonic for what I have planned for Rzhev's statuary. Essentially, I'm going to remake Mamayev Kurgan (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mamayev_Kurgan) as the centre-piece to the ruined Imperial City board I'm planning, as a Heroes of the Imperium type of thing. I do want it to be recognizably The Motherland Calls! dominating the centre, however. Apologies if it appears I'm being overly rigid. I already feel like maybe I'm taking too many liberties casually equating the Kronstadt sailors with daemon-worshipping traitors and I can't help but feel that making a monument to the Battle of Stalingrad into a daemon would be really taking the piss.
I'll probably grab one of those to run as a second KoS alongside Herself. Thanks for the tip.

Another limiting factor will be the size of the printer itself - how large the bed is, how high the extruder can reach. I've printed just a couple things using my local library's printer, and we had to down scale some prop pieces because they wouldn't fit on the printer bed. But that was also a few years ago, using public owned machines, so I can only assume things are even better now.

So. An interesting day. I'm currently fostering a one-year old Black Labrador and this morning she attempted to flood the living room with urine and digest one of my slippers. She then spent an hour hiding under the bed, ashamed at being so unoriginal. I decided today was the day to at least make a start on building Zarakynel, who as both of you who read this will know I call The Violet Heart, or sometimes Herself. While prepping I noticed I hadn't cleaned Her up very well, so I took a couple of old nice-cream buckets to the sink and away I went. I didn't put a guard in the plug. You see where I'm going with this, right?
Ninety minutes later I had removed the U-bend using only the tools I had available (being my bare hands, a tea-towel, a large mug of coffee and a choice selection of curse words in several languages) and retrieved Her left hand. Thirty minutes later, I was looking at a partially assembled model that had lots of gaps and just... lacked something. Don't get me wrong, Zarakynel is a great miniature, but that was part of the problem. It looked like Zarakynel, not The Violet Heart. Luckily I have a dollar store nearby and vastly more talent recovering from modelling mistakes than actual modelling talent.
I won't walk you through the process because it's mostly NSFW and involves more swearing but I will say that being a partially-sighted single man makes spending hours draping chain over a miniature extremely frustrating. I decided against the 'full-on' approach I pictured yesterday because i) it covered too much detail; ii) it was far, far, too much; and iii) the chain I had wasn't long enough to... 'wrap' all six. So anyway, I went with something simpler that also allowed me to hide some of the gaps and only covered large, blank areas, then I went to town with the rest of the chain. I just noticed looking at the pics that there's a bad gap/misalignment on Her lower left arm, so that'll get a chain too. Once her base has rocks, the chains will be glued to said rocks and pulled tight against the mini. As it stands, they're just looped on which is why the ankle-wrap has gone all lax.
Her sword is warped beyond my patience to repair, so She'll be getting a whip instead just as soon as I make it for Her. I don't know if I'll have the minerals to start work on all the little spikes, claws and such today. I don't have any green stuff and won't be getting any until at least next week when my Renegades get reinforced with most of a Start Collecting! box. Apparently liquid green stuff isn't a thing any more, eh?
EDIT - I sat down to look at Gary Lineker's lovely, big, berry-brown face but my eye kept wandering to Herself, so I kept tinkering. I also took a pic to give you what you really come here hoping for; daemon-butt
I like the whip, I think it's a keeper. Ba-dum-tssh. Obviously the shaping needs work. I'm overall pretty happy with how She's coming out; She uses Zarakynel's rules so She has to be recognizable as Zarakynel, but She has to be different enough to justify calling Her The Violet Heart, too. I think She works.

The additions of the chains to the model really make it pop imo. Will you be gluing the links to make them static or will you let them be free flowing? The upside of not using the sword is now you have a spare sword should you ever repair it! Good work and best of luck with the Lab, I'm glad my dogs have grown past that stage of their lives.
Thanks, I think they really add a lot to Her too, but of course I am biased.
The chains will all be glued to the base eventually. Leaving them swinging would make them a nightmare to paint and I'd be worried about them rubbing paint off and eroding the resin. I want them trailing on top of the rocks and debris, though, so they'll have to wait for now. That's a good call on the sword, it would make a decent 'sword-in-the-stone' type objective marker.
You know, looking at those pics... I can fit at least another two chains on Her...

That's a Little Britain reference in (probably bad) transliterated Russian, for any anxious and over-eager moderators out there.
Aside from affixing Her dreads, which FW call 'tendrils' for some reason and which have to stay off for now because they'll get in the way when painting, the build phase is done.
The area down by Her right foot was getting too busy with all the chains and the whip going through it too and the upper-right portion of the mini had very little going on, so I reposed the whip. I like it a lot better, it adds a sense of movement, blocks out Her 'space' better and it allows me to get my Fibonacci on.
Oh, by the way, if you find yourself worrying about the physics of chains, whips and motion, please remind yourself that She's a [Expletive Deleted] Daemon, to paraphrase Jason Lee, before complaining.
Every article or blog post I read about building Zarakynel said that she's a nightmare to put together, mostly because of all the little spikes. For references, she ships with 72 of them, so I wasn't looking forward to that bit. Nevertheless, I persevered and gave it a shot. I got one on Her inner-thigh inside of about twenty seconds (wahey!) and thought that it was going to be easy. Nah. I then spent nearly forty-five minutes pinging little spikes all over my living room trying to get glue on a second spike.
So I did what comes naturally to me; gave up and tried to figure out an easier method. Once again the dollar store came to my rescue and provided 600 toothpicks for $1.25, because nothing in Dollarama actually costs a dollar, bizarrely. As it turns out, you don't need all 72 of the spikes as there's only spacings for about 60 of them. Phew. Still took nearly two hours to cut spikes, pick them up with tweezers, place them and then position them before the glue dried. It's kinda weird-looking currently, 'cause they're clearly toothpicks, but it'll all tie together with paint, I am sure. FWIW, I'm aware that the spikes on her breast-plate are kinda crazy, that was intentional. I'm not sure I lie it and might replace them with more conventional spikey boob-coverings.

Also, here's some WIP Barricades for my Renegades to cower (shelter - V) behind, made from some of the resin blocks Herself was delivered on and some Bike bases I had left over from my Seekers
EDIT - Actually, I got 180 38cm lengths of wire, so nearly 7m of 0.5mm wire.
Up next, WIP Statue Garden, finished Infantry Squad One, finished Renegade Commander and Command Squad, finished Herald on Seeker Chariot, finished Hellflayer, finished Violet Heart. At that point I'll have 2,566pts of Daemons finished. Harrumph.

Thanks, yeah all of the resin blocks have come in quite handy.
I'm probably not going to flock the garden, my current plan is to cover the actual garden parts with the larger stones I use for my basing and paint them the same electric pink colour I used on the Daemonetttes' hair and then use sand to make a pathway down to 'The Gift...'..

Yeah, I agree on the terrain. Having a Dollarama nearby is so handy, I've spent less than $30 on all the (non-GW/FW) materials for the three bits so far and still have loads of everything left.

Anyhoo, so when I was building my first ten Infantrymen/Militiamen there was one of those friendly modelling challenges going on so I entered the Sergeant as a Commander;
He's based largely on this picture
which is called 'Combat' or 'KomBat' and which was taken by Max Alpert, probably in 1942. Some parts of the internet argue that this depicts a political Commissar, some argue it's a Battalion Commander (Komandir Batalona - KomBat), but most agree that it is Alexei/Alexey Gordeyevich Yeryomenko, who I have designated in-game as Senior Sergeant (Starshiy Serzhant).
And, seeing as how I've made the Dakka my primary hangout outside of the Eye, I'll post these here for completeness, too;

Schliecher sat, and waited. Brother Maynard, Bearer of the Holy Orb, was due to lecture the Neophytes from the Book of Armaments. The clearance of Site 3 had not gone well. Squad Drei and Squad Vier had been tasked with clearing the eastern sector. There they had found witches; 'weirdboyz' in the Xeno tongue. Squad Vier had been eliminated; their transport 'Fahles Pferd' wrecked. Four Brothers from Squad Drei had gone to their Emperor. Witches were unheard of on Harrow Gate, their very existence an affront above and beyond the Xeno. Snapping out of it, Schliecher realised that Brother Maynard had arrived and was beginning.

Schliecher drifted away again. He could picture the barrage with perfect clarity; could see every bone and tooth on the talisman of the witch responsible for it.
