Just wish they gave us a second upgrade pack just for heads, 2 doesn't really cut it for SW's. Haldor Icepelt is such a nice model. GW need to stop making us pay for codex's though if most of the artwork is just going to stay the same. Arjac is an absolute beast again. Ragnar is meh, out of all the SW's characters he should have the highest attacks lore wise and get rid of those wolves to have more attacks, you can already have a squad as a meat-shield. Its like giving Kharn 5 attacks, just a bit silly when it comes to the lore. Same with TWC, one had to be nerfed but I wish the Wulfen were nerfed instead of TWC, hate those goofy rat looking models. I shouldn't be moaning as we got a lot of great stuff, I just have always loved Ragnar, I'd rather make another character gak in place of him. FYI GW have not put the primaris dreadnought details in tooth and claw so I think its just an easy build.
WE HAVE NO SPECIAL RULES!!! Just ATWKNF. Just the battle forge rule which is awesome, but it should just be standard. Blood Angels etc. get their special rules.

I love it how people are now considering/choosing to collect SW's because of how good our codex is, then you just smugly look at your 20+ year collection.

I'm happy for Space Wolves but as someone with the Vanilla codex I'm super annoyed.

Probably gonna make my Astral Claws into Space Wolf successors. FW allowed that for Space Wolves and not just the Angels, yes?

If Astral Claws have an in-lore parent, you have to use those rules if you want to benefit from any FW character. If you're just using generic characters, you're free to make your dudes SPACE WOLVES regardless of colour scheme.

To quote myself, assuming the rules in the SW Codex are similar to that of Blood Angels and the like:

  • If you select RAPTORS, you must use the Raven Guard Chapter Tactic and Stratagems (as they are canonically successor to the Raven Guard), and do not have access to the Raven Guard Warlord Trait
  • If you select RAPTOORS, you may use any parent legion Chapter Tactic and Stratagems, do not have access to the Raven Guard Warlord Trait and will not benefit from the buffs granted by a Forge World RAPTORS character.

Vanilla marines have the most models though... All we really have is one character and upgrades.

If they don't have one, then to use the ASTRAL CLAWS keyword you have to use the Codex Adeptus Astartes Space Marines rules, not the Codex Adeptus Astartes Space Wolves rules. You are, of course, free to use the SPACE WOLVES keyword and have your "Hurion" model be represented by the Logan Grimnar datasheet.

I've been debating between that and mounting him on a smaller base for Azrael.

I'm sure once we get a few more leaks the choice will be clear. Space Wolves will be the best again as usual!

I dont play SW or marines, but out of all the SM chapters, they always seem really fun. I hope to see lots of them on the table, some lone wolves, with the new stratagem to make last man standing a character (F ITC rules btw, they are unbalanced so we wont see this stratagem played sadly), it seems like they could just have some of the most fun unique playstyle marines. Lets hope!

what is the ITC already panicing about this rule? it's an expensive start that requires you to lose an entire squad except one guy, and then you get to turn that one guy into a minor character, it only applies to infantry so no "TWC character shinnagens" about the WORST abuse of the rule I can see happening is someone decking out a wolfguard in high end gear, and taking a handful of cheap blood claw chaff, and letting the chaff die so he can get a character out of it.

it's still not exactly a strong strat and anyong who thinks so is foolish. furthermore if any tourny bans that strat in the name of balance but refuses to ban Kurov's Aquillia they've pretty much lost any claim to sanity

I said its fun, and then i sadly we wont see it, itc doesnt help with that as well.

IDK why you got so upset about it lol, it sounds like a fun strat. I would like to see it played and I hope someone uses it well.

Honestly I'm a bit disappointed in the codex. I didn't want space marines with a lemon twist.

I wanted codex: Vlka Fenryka, I wanted a Jarl and his huscarls leading a hunting/raiding party into the stars, I would have preferred they do reivers as troops and intercessors as elites or maybe even not at all.

Instead I can take a Space Wolves, wolf lord with wolf claws and wolf guard riding a thunder wolf. Who cares about how powerful the codex is if it has no heart?

How does it have no heart, its got everything it used to just with extra units. Plus Primaris are new, they have just joined the Rout, in the future they'll be more wolfy. It makes sense, plus they can't just bring out every new Primaris unit for every chapter release. Be patient.

Yeah I'm a bit puzzled too unless he means he's annoyed that the new unit space wovles got was a wulfen dreadnought. thing is we ALSO get a buncha other stuff too. and ther wulfen and wolf stuff well.. the space wolves like the blood angels are defined in part by the flaws of their geneseed.

There are no wolves on Fenris.

SW seem a weaker version of BAs. Ton of buffs, nice and cheap stratagems, and almost nothing to use them on. If there is anything that is going to be used out of the codex it is probablly some sort of SW version of slamguinius.

GH/BC aren't suddenly making meq worth being run in 8th ed. TWC are less efficient point per point then custodes. There is a ton of melee, even good melee, but no real way to actually reach the melee or keep stuff locked in it. If SW had a good way to ignore Fly or had very good fly unit themselfs, then it would be a totally different thing.

If people are going to play SW it is probablly going to be some sort of Hero spam, with some cheap wolfs, with custodes and IG CP battery allied in. Maybe some people will trade in the custodes for a knight.

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.

You don't know what you're talking about, we can easily get into combat, especially with Wulfen and Wulfen dreadnoughts. TWC are weaker but still are a hard hitting unit and SS can get them up the board. Its so easy for us to get in combat and easy tactics for distraction units to take focus away from your Wulfen etc.

An army of dreads and TWC gets stopped by parking a line of cultists in front of them or putting dudes on top of buildings. There's reason why the strongest melee units in the game - Shining spears, custodes bikes, slam captain, daemon princes all have fly

I'm not suggesting an army of dreads. There is such a thing as tactics, teleport terminator squads right in your opponents face or our stormfang which is a beast now, to limit the firing against your CC units, doing stuff like that. Its easy. SW's have so many fast units, Fenrisian wolves, Wulfen, Wulfen dreads, TWC, Grimnar. So what if the strongest units in the game have fly.

Or they'll be played by people who don't wanna go to tournies and spam the most broken units they can find with the Imperium Keyword

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Keywords like walker and cavalry are a curse to combat heavy armies, guess what keyword SW armies have in abundance?

The core design of SW is fighting an uphill battle against the 8th edition mechanics, an elite, non-flying melee army with a low model count? I'm surprised they turned out as well as they did. I think SW will work quite well as a standalone faction

Don't you dare point out that all balance discussions on Dakka are worthless because everyone speaks like the game is only played at the top tables of international level tournaments, while that represents less than 0,1% of the player base!

Keep logic and facts out of Dakka, we don't need them!

How does ITC have anything to do with the strat?

Headhunter, its another character on the table and a easier one to kill.

Honestly i dont know why your’re even worried about this at all. First of all the other person has to pick headhunter as a secondary, which they probably wont do unless you have 4-5 characters to start, if they pick it and you only have three characters to start then just don’t use the strat to deny a point. But this strategem actually has some potential. Let’s say the enemy is trying too shoot you off of an objective in your backfield, they get your scout squad down to one guy and you pop this strat, now they cant shoot him. In any mission this would be great to save yourself loosing an objective to long range shooting.
