Hello,

I'm currently building a Necron force and I look for guidance for a list that is fun to play. I will also try to evolve from it, add up some diversity in play style. Here's the list:

----------------------------------------------------------------------

++ Nephrekh - Battalion Detachment (+5CP) ++

+ HQ +

Cryptek: Chronometron, Staff of Light

Overlord: Staff of Light

+ Troops +

Immortals: 7x Immortal, Tesla Carbine

Immortals: 7x Immortal, Tesla Carbine

Immortals: 7x Immortal, Tesla Carbine

+ Fast Attack +

Canoptek Scarabs: 8x Canoptek Scarab Swarm

Canoptek Wraiths: 4x Canoptek Wraith

Destroyers
. 3x Destroyer: 3x Gauss Cannon
. Heavy Destroyer: Heavy Gauss Cannon

++ Nihilak - Spearhead Detachment (+1CP) ++

+ HQ +

Cryptek: Canoptek Cloak, Staff of Light

+ Heavy Support +

Doomsday Ark

Doomsday Ark

Doomsday Ark

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Total: 1741pts

----------------------------------------------------------------------

A few word of explanaitions: The Nihilak formation will stay behind and destroy everything that annoys me. The unit of Destroyers will use Translocation crypt to come on the battlefield. Same purpose as the Doomsday Arks.

Canopteks Wraiths & Scarabs: Use to retain CaC units as much as they can, or charge annoying ones. Cryptek & Overlords stay as much as they can with Immortals and destroy as much hordes as possible.

I will fight mainly vs Tyrannids (with a strong CaC oriented list) and later, Tau. I must say I'm a bit afraid of not being able to counter all thos CaC units. What do you think ?

I really like this list but I would only use one cryptek and run a lord instead of the other cryptek to maximise damage output on the immortals with the re-roll ones to wound-something that's key if your getting a load of hits.

Also I would consider using a 20 man warrior blob which becomes pretty much unkillable while sat next to a cryptek, this creates a lot of space and draws out your opponents close combat units.
If your playing mainly against tyranids Tesla immortals are an excellent idea to chain as many hits as possible.

Nephrekh is great for objective grabbing and versatility but if your playing against hord armies sautekh or mephrit really come in handy with the methodical destruction and talent for anhilation stratagems which maximise your damage output on large units. Try testing them and see if you like the play style.

Wraiths are a fun and powerful unit and will do brilliantly against tau with the 3+ invun but will not be as effective against tyranids due to their large number of weak attacks. However use them to confuse your opponent and engage large units at random times which stops your opponent being able to plan ahead.
The destroyers are one of the best units in the codex and are great to have as they are durable and fast with quite high damage, however I don't think they really need to be in your list as you already have great anti-tank (3 doomsday arks) and great mobility(wraiths and scarabs). They I'll also be focused down by tau and overwhelmed by the tyranids if your opponents have any sense. Try swapping them out for a warrior blob and seeing how it works.

And finally I come to my favourite part of your list, the spearhead detachment. Doomsday arks have to be my favourite unit from the codex as they put out a ton of damage with their doomsday cannon and gauss flayers. They are also quite manoeuvrable due to their 14" move and fly.Quantum shielding means they win almost every long range engagement due to their immunity to antitank - honestly I could go on for hours. At the moment I only have one of these beasts but I so want 3 of them

I feel you play them the correct way with the nihilak code giving them re-roll ones to hit . Also leaving them at the back in this fast list of yours means that it will be difficult for your opponents to reach them giving them free reign over the entire board.

The warlord trait I would recommend running in any game playing necrons is immortal pride which gives your warlord a chance to deny a psychic power. It also means that any units near your warlord can't fail leadership so have to be completely removed in a turn so your opponent has to use extra resources to kill them in case they get back up.

The relic I recommend using is the veil of darkness which let's you teleport a character and a unit across the board to grab an objective or kill an important unit. You can also use it on a unit that's locked in close combat to move them out without retreating so they can shoot that same turn. It really adds a pile of versatility to a necron force and forces your opponent to spread out their units to reduce your teleporting potential.

My summary is that you need more screening units (like a warrior blob) as your immortals will be killed extremely quickly, leaving your (quite weak)characters exposed. Still I love the list because its so unique and you've taken advantage of some of the best units from the codex ( but not the tesseracts vault yay).

I hope my advice was useful - Berry

I would disagree with the point that Destroyers fulfill the same function as Doomsday Arks.

Destroyers are best suited to taking down units mid-range toughness multi-wound models. Guaranteed 3 shots each means they're more reliable in drowning and taking out bigger units of multi-wound models, but the S6 means they can sometimes struggle to take out T7+, even with rerolls.

Doomsday Arks are better suited to taking down high toughness single-multi-wound models. Variable shots means they're not consistent enough to take out multi-model units, but the high strength and D6 damage makes them perfectly suited to knocking out heavy targets like Land Raiders.

I would argue that you want both in your list (and probably 6-strong Destroyers so that using Extermination Protocols on them is a more efficient use of 1 CP).

I prefer shooting a knight with destroyers using EP. 18 shots rerolling everything that failed is better than 7 shots from 2 DDAs rerolling only 1s to hit.

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high

Drop a DDA, and fill out the destroyer squad, and the immortal squads with the points savings.
Having a DDA be Nihilahk yes lets them reroll 1s if they didn't move, so I'd roll those units into the battalion, and then make the battalion Nihilahk. That way you can buff the saves of your destroyers if they take fire with the strategem.

Bedouin Dynasty: 10000 pts
The Silver Lances: 4000 pts
The Custodes Winter Watch 4000 pts

Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum.
