Hello, I am writing a book using google docs, and the Empire that is in this book is based off the Imperium of Man from Warhammer 40k in some ways, while the main character is based off Marvel's superhero Thor.

The Empire in question is named the Anakorian Empire, it a cross-galactic Empire that controls 835 quadrillion planets and has a population in the decillions, it also controls millions of galaxies instead of just one.

The Army uses a mix of ranged soldiers with laser weaponry and has Greek Hoplites with spears that shoot missiles from the tip and a hoplon (shield) that can block gunfire and laserfire, it also obviously block melee weapons.

The Elite soldiers of the empire use the same weapons the Hoplites use but are bigger and stronger, these Elites are the same size and strength as a tactical Space Marine.

Then you have the Demigods, these are even more Elite soldiers who are trained in both melee and ranged, they are basically the same size as a regular human and have the same strength as Thor, they can only be killed by someone as strong as they are or stronger.

On the Navy, we have over a quadrillion ships, with the Navy's flagship being the size of an entire galaxy, it can also destroy galaxies with its weaponry.

How it was founded in a nutshell:

Basically a Greek Soldier named Anakor lead a third of the population of Pergamon away from the city when it was being attacked by the Persians of the Achaemenid Empire, he led the citizens with protection from his hoplite comrades into a cave where the Greek God Hermes created a portal leading to the planet they founded the Anakorian Empire on, where they lived for many years. They then achieved first contact with a friendly alien race which shared it's technology to them, several Kings later a new King decides to use propaganda to get the Anakorians to make an Empire, they do so and expand very quickly, killing all who opposed the Empire, and eventually stopped expanding in the year 2018.

What do you guys think of this fictional Empire? I've used several ideas from warhammer 40k like the space marines for the Elites and Thor for the Demigods, should I add or remove anything, let me know.

Also, dont get mad that this post isn't exactly 40k lore related, I have no other forum site to post this on where people would listen and be respectful, and you guys seem to know a lot about sci-fi related things.

No, I already knew these numbers off the top of my head, the reason I decided to make this fictional empire so ridiculously huge is because I wanted to go beyond the standard, most empire's i've seen in movies, books, etc usually only go solar sized or galaxy sized. I wanted to be different for once by making this empire universal sized, because I love big empires and just because it's my story and just wanted to do that for the heck of it.

Okay. I've a written a bit. Here's my advice for what it's worth.

Your idea for how the Empire began is fine in and of itself.

Your ideas for its soldiers etc, while derivative, can stand depending on how you write them.

The scale, though. Your sense of scale is in need of tweaking. I mean a starship as big as a galaxy? That's going to wreck anyone's suspension of disbelief and they'll just stop reading with an incredulous laugh.

Good books deal with people and universal themes. It's easy to lose that when writing Sci fi and fantasy. The story should never be about the equipment or fetishising weaponry and space ships. Just tone everything back a notch or twelve and go from there.

One last piece of advice. Buy yourself the Writers and Artists Handbook.

There probably is a reason why such empires do not usually exist even in fiction. To put it politely, it is not plausible even in a space fantasy setting. Management, the required rate of expansion, none of it would even remotely work.

Yeah, and the galaxy sized ship... I missed that at the first reading... This is just... well, I really do not think 'highly implausible' quite sufficiently captures the level of ludicrousness we're talking about here.

U.k

It sounds, aweful.

Sorry to be harsh but as above, the scale sounds ridiculous. Even if you have a really good story the setting would ruin it. Why so big? If it’s just to be bigger than everyone else then that’s silly. The scale needs to important to the story. In star wars the galaxys size was relevant as they had to travel across it to get to alderaan. It made the story into an epic journey not a bus ride. If they had hopped on a galaxy sized ship and drove off it wouldn’t make sense. Where did they build it. Who drives it. A galaxy sized ship! It’s mental. Sorry but it needs a total rethink.

also a ship the size of ta galaxy would be impossiable to travel across and consume waaaaaaaay too many resources. to build a ship that size you'd likely need too consume the entire material resources of several galaxies.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

It is apparent the connections to 40k, like a bad clone.

You are trying to out 40k, 40k and that is your downfall right there. Make it your own, not a clone. Don't rewrite 40k because it has already been written. Write your world, the way you see it.

What is it you like about 40k? What don't you like?

I'm back!

Thank you all for the feedback, I am currently in the process of re-writing the lore of the Anakorian Empire to a more feasible and less OP version.

I wish to point out that the mega ship would be much more engaging, but still epic, if it was the size of a star system. Science fiction is filled with mega structures. Such as these
