Been Around the Block

Hey everyone ,
Me and my partner are going to be attending a local doubles event in a few months and my partner has chosen to play admech.
I'm thinking of choosing Blood Angels as I like the look and theme of the army but I'm not really sure where to start. The list will be 1000 points and I've been looking at a battalion with the popular captain build and scouts as a base. I'm aiming for the list to be somewhat competitive although I know there's only so much you can do with power armour armies at the moment.
Any help and suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Roll out libby dread and mephy. They are solid.

Id probably consider using jump captains, scouts + devastators, Libby dreads, mephy, death company, sang guard, or thundefire cannon.

BA don't get thunderfires.

DC suck now. Avoid them.

I would also add Inceptors to the list of Blood Angel units that work very well. They are tough, bring a lot of mobile firepower and can reposition with UWOF if necessary. Bring the bolter version if you feel your list needs more anti-infantry or plasma for taking down tougher targets.

If you run DC then you really want Lemartes as your 2nd HQ choice since he boosts them so much. For DC I find 10 seems about the optimum number. 7 with bolters and chainswords and 3 with Thunder Hammers.

Agreed. Inceptors are a good choice. I usually run them with a company ancient with the standard of sacrifice. Especially the plasma variant.

Its about focussing on what BA are good at which is assaulting
Guns are for other chapters. Ignore anything primaris its bad and shooting in general will be done better by admech.

So good base units
BA CPT
BA CPT

Scout
Scout
Scout

Optionals
3 x more scouts great for supporting a stygies admech assault army get in the opponents face T1.

Mephiston - if you want a 3rd hard hitting character.

DC jump packs power swords nerfed by deep strike changes but one unit can be justifiable to rush across the board or deep strike in they are costly and die but they can dlice through a frontline dont take more than 1 without lemartes and if you deep strike all 3 together.

Sanguinary ancient standard of sacrifice +terminators or sanguinary guard - no longer hitting till t2 but fun and tanky.

If you can double detatchement you could do worse than take

Ba CPTx2
Mephiston
Tycho the lost (cheap and not terrible).
Spam scouts

Which gives you the cp you need to make your characters work.
Ba work best this edition as deathwatch (a few small hard hitting units. Its also why you dont see them fielded solo to often)

BA need guns, too. They have to be able to shoot things that beat them in cc. Which is a long list really.

No not really guns come from your allies normally AM. In this case the admech. In a 1000 pt list ba are too expensive to take guns aswell.

The problem BA have is any unit based on its gun is better as an SM or a DA down to chapter tactics

You just summed up why chapter tactics suck...BA's are still at the end codex chapter following codex astartes. This pigeonholing them to all assault shows how inadept GW designers are.
