Dakka's 12px font size was cool back in the early 2000s when everyone was on 1024x768 monitors, but in today's world of 1920x1080 and higher resolutions, it's just getting brutal to see. Granted, I'm in my mid 40s now and my eyes are not what they used to be, which only exacerbates the problem.

Dakka already offers a variety of themes available via a convenient theme switcher, so my request is simple:

Can we please get a "Geezer Status" theme with a much larger font size? Designed for those of us for whom the current font size is just plain uncomfortable and unpleasant to use?

I have a lot of CSS and HTML experience and would be happy to help, if desired. It really wouldn't take that much effort at all.

Edited: because I couldn't see the text well enough not to make typos!

What's wrong with using Ctrl + Scroll Wheel to increase the font size?

Why invent the telegraph when smoke signals exist?
Why invent the telephone when the telegraph exists?
Why invent the internet when the telephone exists?

Why invent bicycles when you can just walk?
Why invent cars when bicycles exist?

Why invent computers when the abacus exists?

People "do stuff" because it makes their lives better. If this issue does not affect you, I'm very happy for you. May you enjoy good vision for the rest of your life.

My proposed solution would also not affect you in any way. It would cost Dakka nearly nothing except the time needed to update a few lines of CSS.

Have you tried Lotet's solution?

Chrome/IE/Firefox all tend to have native functionality to zoom the text size by either using CTRL + Scroll Wheel or CTRL + "+". That solution also only affects those users who need/want the larger font size. If you've tried that and it wasn't to your tastes (it does change up some of the aspect ratio a bit), I'm sure Legoburner could look into a possible large-text theme.

Chrome can zoom in just fine. In fact I am permanently zoomed in at 125% and it looks fine to me.

Otherwise, instead of badgering others to do something, learn how to write a simple CSS style and use Stylus to implement it.

Yes seems unnecessary. When I'm browsing Dakka on my TV (with the PC input at 1440) from across the room I keep the zoom at 170%, never have a problem. At my desk upstairs (1080) it stays at 100%.

And the scroll wheel solution is easier to do than theme switching, and you have a much finer degree of control over the correct solution for your eyes (rather than arbitrarily make an 18px font theme that doesn't work for all).

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.”
