Anyone else get the email about NQ going away? They offered me a $25 gift card or $50 in online store credit.

Here is the text of the email.

Dear valued No Quarter Prime subscriber,

Over the past year, No Quarter Prime has been the home to some of the best content Privateer has ever produced for WARMACHINE and HORDES. In the pages of the publication, we have explored the timeline of the Iron Kingdoms and have gone deeper into the inner workings of the WARMACHINE and HORDES Factions than ever before. We want to thank you for your support as a subscriber, and we hope that you have been as pleased with what we have delivered through No Quarter Prime as we were to create it.

In light of the magazine reaching its ultimate incarnation and after an unbroken, thirteen-year run as No Quarter and No Quarter Prime, it comes with no small degree of sadness that the time has come for us to retire the print publication. As the information age marches on and people’s preference for consuming content leans more heavily on faster, more timely and efficient digital delivery platforms, the limitations of print have been increasingly felt. The print magazine took months to bring from creation to the hands of our readers, you had to wait two months between each publication, and the format was static and restrictive compared to what can be offered online.

Going forward, Privateer will deliver WARMACHINE and HORDES content online. Redirecting our resources from the No Quarter Prime print publication to digital content released through our website will enable us to deliver new material more frequently, more dynamically, and without the restrictions of print. We’ll be able to stay current with the events and activities of the dynamic WARMACHINE and HORDES community, and we’ll be able to cover a broader range of subject matter in our content that did not necessarily fit neatly into the pages of the magazine.

For those of you with subscriptions extending beyond issue 06 of No Quarter Prime, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience of ending the subscription early, but please know that we have you covered. Unfortunately, we are unable to refund your credit card directly because we do not retain any customer credit card information for your protection. We are committed, however, to compensating you for the issues you paid for but did not receive. We have two methods to reimburse you: we can send you a money order by mail, or we can email you a store credit to the Privateer Press Online Store worth double your refund value. If you have any concerns , please contact us at frontdesk@privateerpress.com.

Our records indicate that you are eligible to receive a money order for $25.00 OR a store credit for $50.00. Use this form to indicate your reimbursement preference and provide us the necessary information to process it. Reimbursements will begin processing the week of September 10. Please allow two weeks for us to process your return (and allow for another week shipping should you choose a money order).

No Quarter Prime subscription refund form

While we are sad to say goodbye to the publication we have enjoyed producing for so many years, we look forward to bringing you new and exciting content in the months to come.

With much gratitude,
The Privateer Press Publications Team

This was a post from an employee on reddit.

Hey guys, just wanna thank everyone who has been enjoying Prime this past year. The magazine redesign was truly a labor of love, comprising of many hours of hard work by incredibly talented writers, designers, artist, sculptors, editors and others.
While it sucks that the realities of a changing print/tabletop gaming industry finally caught up with the publication, we at PP are super proud of the work we produced.
To those worried that this is a sign of decline, fear not. We have many positive announcements just over the horizon!
Cheers!!

It DEFINITELY feels like (yet another) sign of decline for PP.

I really liked the redesign of NQ Prime, I liked it enough to actually subscribe which I'd not done before. Maybe we will get lucky and they will put all the old terrain and painting and history stuff up on the website to revisit.

that would be nice, and would save me a lot of work in gathering it. they had some really awesome terrain builds in it

I really liked the redesign, but each issue really only focusing on one faction made it hard to get excited about it at the price tag. They did an excellent job with it, but I'm not surprised the effort isn't paying off.

I'm sorry to see it go, but I've felt less excited about getting it as time has gone on. The focus on one faction really restricted my interest unless it was a faction that I play. I would like to have seen the painting portion of the hobby expanded more. But I think that PP actually is ahead of the game on this. They are correct that digital content is preferred to print. I wouldn't doubt that GW and other game manufacturers probably will do the same in the net few years. Their War Room app is great and a similar content app or link on the website would be preferred.

I'm not prejudiced, I hate everyone equally

They already put out a ton of digital content. The hobby stuff there is pretty top notch, and having Dallas replying on their social media posts is pretty helpful if you have a sticking point with the technique they're showing off.

I find it really strange that they communicate over every social media platform.
Except YouTube. All of their videos have the comments disabled.
Which is really odd, because that's where most of the questions would be.
I'm not going to bother following on Twitter, FB and all the others when I get their digital content on YT.

And besides....Twitter sucks.

There’s more permanence to YouTube videos. Makes sense to minimize the toxicity of the internet there.

I am not sure that it minimizes anything. It kinda comes across an arms-length dealing with the community. Not sure that's a good thing for them to do.

It's quite simple to moderate the comments, block, ban, mute people and more.
If anything, it gives the creator complete control over how toxic they want their comment sections to be.
I get as many views on my videos as PP does. Yet, I can keep up with and moderate my comments just fine. It's something I completely fail to understand because I'm one guy and I can handle comments, community toxicity, and moderate it as I see fit. In addition, I make my own art, music and everything else on my channel.

And you're trying to tell me that a company with a community development specialists and positions can't do the same?
Ok. If fans want to provide excuses for why they are ignored by PP in certain online communities, and not in others, all right then.

Ghool thing is when you've got a company there's a few things that can happen:

1) First they view it not as comments but as marketing. Negative comments are negative* publicity for them and as such something they want to avoid happening. Not just control, but outright avoid.

2) They might be scared of the internet. Seriously no joke. Companies and people have had massive storms of hate directed at them and once it gets going your customers become the least of your problems; such a wildfire can easily attract trolls and people who will never be satisfied because they aren't even your customers (even if they once were). This can take moderation to whole new levels of pain for the mods as even if you crack down on it fast that in itself generates hate and anger and can spill over into your other social media and feedback sites.

3) Moderating well is a skill not everyone has. There are many ways to moderate, but all require a level of skill in order to balance your community feeling respected and free to air their views and avoiding them turning toxic. Heavy moderation can actually create problems because the community gets very jaded.

4) This can all happen fast - a few hours after a bad release or a price rise of something similar and people can go nuts.

5) It costs. When its your own free time its one thing, but mods on social media site are either volunteers from the community or you've got to pay someone to sift through it. That means time spent not being "productive" For smaller to medium companies this can be quite a significant cost and time sink for an employee. Lets not forget that once you go past Games workshop, many other model companies are vastly smaller and rely more heavily on contract work for many roles not just in-house staff.

6) It could be that PP wants to focus its community relations on specific sites so that they can better control what information comes out through staff direct interaction and to better monitor and keep tabs on it. IT might just be them keeping a handle on things.

7) They consider that they've got so many other channels of communication that they don't need another one cluttering up the information and feeds they are already getting (remembering many people will repeat comments/questions in multiple social media sites - copy=paste is fast if you're already logged into most of the sites by default on your browser.

*the whole "there's no such thing as bad publicity thing doesn't really hold water. Lots of bad publicity does do harm.

All great points.

Back on topic, I'll miss NQ. It was literally the only gaming magazine I bought. Now I might be forced to buy WD for pretty pictures of models to look at every few months.

Always sad to see another print magazine go the way of the Dodo.

While I understand the whole "digital world we all live in now" thing, I still think there's a place for a print magazine for our hobby, if it is done right and has the right content.
