So, if you have unit of standard Tactical Marines, or other models equipped both with long range gun, and pistol. When they get engaged into CC, you still can shoot with your pistol in your shooting phase. Right?
Notice, it's not like I'm asking if you can use your pistols in CC, as you can. But It looks like most people are using them only when they carry CC weapon in one hand and pistol in second. While I've seen somewhere that you can use gun/CC weapon if it's attached anywhere to your model. For example pistol in the holster, attached to leg, while carry main long range gun in the hands.

How a model is physically modelled has zero bearing on the rules. Feel free to model your Tacticals with their guns on their shoes Bayonetta style. Also obligatory "Actually you can't use pistols within 1" of an enemy."

BaconCatBug, so can I use them or not?
Codex:Space Marines, Tactical Squad:
"Each model is armed with a boltgun, bolt pistol, frag grenades and krak grenades"
Rules, Core Rules:
"The weapons a model has are listed on its datasheet. If a model has several weapons, it can shoot all of them at the same target, or it can shoot each at a different enemy unit"
Rules, Pistols:
"A model can fire a Pistol even if there are enemy units within 1" of its own unit, but it must target the closest enemy unit."
and as well Pistols:
"Each time a model equipped with both a Pistol and another type of ranged weapon (e.g. a Pistol and a Rapid Fire weapon) shoots, it can either shoot with its Pistol(s) or with all of its other weapons."

I am not understanding what the problem is? They have both weapons, and can use either all their Non-Grenade, Non-Pistol weapons, all their pistol weapons or one grenade, just like any other model.

I just haven't seen anybody rolling for pistol shoots in CC when they have bolters in their model hands.

Because if you play by the rules you can't use the pistols.

I've seen your point at:
"You may not pick a unit that Advanced or Fell Back this turn, or a unit that is within 1" of an enemy unit."
But I have counter rule for it:
A model can fire a Pistol even if there are enemy units within 1" of its own unit
And as second rule is written after the first one (one page later) it overwrite it, as new codex overwrite rules of the old one.
PS. Same thing with assault weapons. It's special rule is after general rule, which mean it's adding new meaning or exception to it.

Unit is not the same as model. You can never get to the point where the model can be selected to fire because that happens after you select the unit.
In any case, it was meant to be a tongue-in-cheek bit of silliness, not to re-ignite this discussion. Read the thread in my sig for the full into.

Dude, just please keep collecting your list of Oh I’m So Clever but don’t drag every thread into the mire, eh? Pistols work just fine for the entire world... it’s only you having a problem with them. Being the “Well, actually” guy isn’t an endearing quirk...

And that is their loss. If you're going to stay in combat, take every advantage you can get.

You probably don't see the pistols used much, because staying in combat long enough to use them is somewhat rare. Usually a unit will fall back in its own turn immediately after being charged*, so the rest of their army can blast the charging unit to bits.
*Unless they've been encircled to prevent them from falling back. Which is pretty much the only time I see pistols being used in combat.
