Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

UK

Welcome to the 43rd round of the Unofficial Painting Challenge! For the unfamiliar, the challenge is a friendly competition open to any Dakka members, whether you're painting your first model or your 1001st! The more rounds you enter, the more points you accrue based on a public vote, and these are tracked in a League Table over the course of the year.

This month, the theme is Pick Up The Pace. Whether by equipment, vehicle, mount or innate speediness, your entry should consist of a model or models that represent speed. aircraft, cavalry, jetpack or winged units, inherently rapid beasts, anything that moves around the battlefield at a significant pace.

How To Enter
- You may enter up to 5 MODELS as a SINGLE ENTRY, and are permitted one entry per member per month. If you enter multiple models, they should ideally be related in some way, such as part of the same squad, unit or scene if you are doing a diorama
- You MUST post a 'proof' picture of your entry in the thread of the state it was in before you started working on it; this must be either unassembled, unpainted, primed or coated a single colour. Entries that do not submit a valid Proof Picture will not be eligible for voting.
- After this, you may post WIP pictures in this thread and your own if you wish, and on completing the entry, you may post up to 6 final pictures IN THIS THREAD that will then be used for voting. Please note that pictures in a montage or collage picture will be considered individual images for this purpose, so while these types of presentation are certainly acceptable, please keep the image limit in mind when compiling them. For example, a collage of 5 images and one separate image would count as your 6 picture allowance.

So What Do I Win?
- Points... and points mean... bragging rights for the next month! Following the vote, points will be awarded to every entrant. This year, the Points you receive will be equal to the Percentage of Votes your entry receives in the final Voting thread; if you get 10%, you get 10 points, if you get 6% you get 6 points, so on and so forth.

These points will be used to form a league table, which will be updated month on month as the results come in.

How Long Do I Have?
This challenge begins 1st of September and will end at midnight BST on the 30th of September. After this, I shall compile the finished entries into a new thread, and voting will run for 5 days.

Here's mine. I did take a picture earlier when they were black, but didn't check it and it's blurry as hell. Luckily I noticed before moving past the base colour

Unfortunately, I cannot find images of my models in their old paintjob. Rest assured it was surely the most terrible paintjob ever. Therefore I hope these images are good enough

Oh wow, I might have something for this one -- I've been waiting until I build a minimum squad of 5, but this challenge is begging me to do the storm-grotz! I've got their fearless leader mostly built (lacking backpack and head), and will just paint him up if i can't get the rest built. Please ignore the mold lines! Not sure how those got in there . Scraping time!

I am working mainly on my demon entries for November, but I do have another scale project lined up so I will enter this and see if I can spare some time for it.

I'm slightly nervous entering as I've only been painting a few months, and although this is the fastest unit in my army I appreciate that it's not exactly going to win any races (does rate of fire count?)

So here goes:

Primed on August 30th:

This is my entry, a vault 13 diorama. Still waiting for the vault dweller and some other bits. It's not an exact copy, but it will represent the moment when the last rays of vault light shine on the vault dweller as the door closes behind him.

Not sure if i'll actually get this done this month, considering the late start, being back at university, and the fact that i'm really enjoying working on my killteam at the moment. In any event, here's my entry for this month.

In my effort to treat “pick up the pace” as a technical challenge, I’m almost done. Just need to edge highlight the riders and touch up and decal the bikes once the stripes are dry.

@Power Elephant, how do you see that as fitting the theme, if you don't mind me asking? As always, you can interpret it however you like, but unless I'm missing something I don't really see how that piece will tie into speed or mobility that define the topic this month.

And we'll try this guy again...I primed and painted him 80% for last month, and then hated it and stripped him down to bare metal again.

...so maybe this month I'll paint him and not hate the result?

Lol it’s probably the rush of dwellers that headed into the vault, this would be the last one to enter as the door is sealing as to not loose a limb in the process possibly?

And done!

Decided to skip the decals. I don’t use many for my Eldar, and I like the bikes being more clean. Start to finish over the weekend. Seeing that I normally try to get 4-6 minis a month done, getting 3 bikes done over two days was a pretty good sprint. I’ll say that the pace got picked up!

Now to get to work on some wraithguard, who defiantly don’t fit in the month’s theme.

It's because the vault dweller has 150 days to find the water filter and take down the master. If he doesn't hurry up his vault and possibly mankind will get wiped out.
