Hi folks. Started collecting 40k around 15 years ago. Took a long (~ 8 year) break when I decided that I wanted to be a cool kid. Now I'm all grown up with expendable cash, and I don't care what people think! Since my return I've painted 20 chaos marines and 30 cultists. I thought I'd make this blog to share my progress!

Started off hobbying today with a bunch of Khorne Berserker conversions.




They're converted using primaris bodies, berserker weapons and blood warrior heads. In the pipeline I have a second converted squad of berserkers, a squad of converted havocs, and a sorcerer. I've also started assembly on a chaos decimator! Having a ton of fun back in the hobby

Ooh they look awesome! As much as I hate that GW changed the scale of space marines, I must admit they look a lot better. Your beserkers actually look terrifying rather than chunky little armoured bunnies

Interested to see what you do with the havocs, that's another ancient kit in need of some attention!

Thanks! Yeah, the khorne berserker sprues I have are dated 1998 - they're in dire need of an update!

The havocs will be kitbashed from old beserker and chaos marine pieces, so will be a bit closer to normal size!

The havocs were dictated by pieces I have lying around. If I build anymore, it'll probably be with primaris pieces. I've wanted to build a havoc similar to the Lheorvine Urkis art by Paul Dainton.

The current squad is rocking 2 lascannons, a missile launcher and a heavy bolter. The champion has a combi-plasma. My favourite model of them is definitely the heavy bolter. If I don't do a kill-team from scratch, this guy will probably be included. Pipes from powerpacks to weapons were made from different kits and greenstuff. I couldn't find an appropriate ammo pack for the heavy bolter, so he's rocking an ammo container nicked off a scout sentinel's lascannon.




I've also finished a second squad of Khorne Berserkers. This one uses the AOS blood warrior bodies, with a mix of chaos marine and khorne berserker arms. The heads are either AOS or primaris reiver heads with khorne berskerer bunny ears attached, which turned out looking better than I thought.



I'm going to prime these squads up in Abaddon black. I also have a converted Dark Apostle, which I'll be posting once I've decided on his accessories!

Dark Apostle WIP! Does he need more spikes??? Bits from around 8 kits went into him, so he's a tad messy!

I wish someone in my meta would play black legion. Would give me the chance to use revenge for sanguinius, additional attacks on 4+

Great job with the converted berzerkers. I'd love to do World Eaters but they desperately need new models

So I haven't posted for a while - mainly because I destroyed my phone at a party , and it took me ages to start a new one! Plus I finished/handed in my masters dissertation, moved back to London, and joined a gaming group here - so it's all been a bit hectic!

That sounds awesome. I'm yet to play against BA since rejoining the hobby. If I'm ever in Germany with my minis I'll hit you up!

I've joined my local gaming club's kill team campaign, and finished the second cycle last night. I'm running a Black Legion kill team, so I used it as a chance to test out painting the first of the converted berserkers, and a havoc. So far I'm pleased with how they've turned out!




Edit: Imgur photo turned out absolutely massive. Had to tinker with it a little, though it is a little distorted. My next step is to to get a lightbox!

I would recommend Dakka's gallery. I'm a recent convert but it's absurdly useful for Dakka plogs.

Ah, thanks for the tip. So I'd upload to Dakka Gallery then embed pics into forum from there?

Yeah, or just attach them to your post and they get uploaded to your gallery automatically.

If you upload to the gallery, there's a panel below the image and to the right which gives you pre-formatted links for a number of places.

Use for Forum one for Dakka (or other forums).

I think I'm going to continue hosting my pics on imgur for now; if only because I'm a little more sensitive over what I have in my Dakka Gallery having said that, I'll almost certainly give up and make the switch soon!


I have an update - this work was done some time ago, but I totally forgot to post it - a WIP Traitor Librarian, which I will use as a terminator sorcerer!



I'm currently using some newly painted black legionnaires in a big (40 teams!) Kill team campaign, So will post them on here as soon as I'm done with the last chaos marine. I've also signed up for a Fun n Fluff tournament this weekend, So have begun to convert a chaos lord to lead my forces across the weekend!

So, tomorrow I have a Fun & Fluff tournament that requires 1500 fully painted points. I've had an exhausting week, but have been staying up late trying to get models painted up in time. Here's my progress so far tonight. I have a lightbox on the way too, so will be able to take better pictures once I'm done with these guys! Apologies for terrible image quality.

So, my new Black Legion boys have been taken out for a spin! I hit up London Wargaming Guild's Fun N Fluff 1500 points tournament. Had an awesome time, and got a bunch of painting done beforehand. Played 6 games over 2 days - lost 4, drew 1, and won 1. Here are some pics of the boys in action! Apologies for the horizontal photos.

I was matched against some awesome armies - a super fun ork player, a beautiful blood angels army, and even nicer world eaters army, and a great catachan platoon that reminded me of a classic 3rd edition guard force.



Next steps on my hobby ladder are a) making some chaosy objectives, b) sorting out a lightbox c) Finishing reading Dark Imperium: Plague War. Once I've done this, I plan on going back over my current models and working out if/how I want to weather them - if anyone can recommend any techniques for this, let me know!

I've been following the Blackstone Fortress teases and am getting SUPER stoked about it. Beastmen, Chaos Marines, cultists and a lord? Take my money! Also my lightbox has arrived, so took this image to test the waters with it.



Pretty pleased with how the image turned out! Now, onto weather my berserkers. I've grabbed a bunch of paints from GW today, so going to weather them up real good. Will post results when finished. After that, onto a chaos lord!

Made some okay hobby progress since my last post! Some I'm happy with, some less so.



First up, I said I was going to weather my berserkers. The first squad, being primaris reiver conversions, doesn't have a huge amount of recesses. As such I was pretty terrified of going to work at them with the Ryza rust and Doombull Brown I bought. I did however see an AWESOME deathwatch colour scheme. My second squad of berserkers (who use bloodbound bodies) are being painted up to resemble them - so hopefully they'll be better candidates for me to test weathering on.

In gaming news, my Black Legion kill team, Squad Eblis has seen two more outings as part of the campaign I'm involved with. I was unlucky with dice rolls, and lost 3 chaos marines - two of whom were level 3 specialists! A definite blow - but on the bright side, I get to convert more guys for my kill team! Furthermore, I got to finally play against Custodes today - I've been itching to go up against them since reading Master of Mankind. I got decimated, but had a tonne of fun! We had open war, and he drew the ruse that allowed 3 units to redeploy. Needless to say, it did not go well! This was my new boy's first army-strength run up, other than the fun n fluff weekender.





Additionally, I've finished off a chaos sorcerer. I tried to do a sheen on his power sword, but completely messed it up. I attempted to get away only using 2 types of blue and mixing them with white for the desired effect. It didn't go too well, and I've caked it on too thick to try again. I'm not too annoyed though - definitely a great way to learn a little bit of patience! Anyway, here he is in all his mediocre glory!



So, what's next on my radar? I managed to mess up my converted Chaos Lord's paint job in the run up to the fun n fluff tourney, so currently working on touching him up a little. I also need to finish my second squad of berserkers, finish off the havocs, then paint a squad of 5 cultists. Once that's done, I'll move onto the big boys - magnetizing my helldrake, and getting a chaos decimator painted up! I've also bought 4 chaos spawn, and preordered Blackstone Fortress, but neither of those will be on my hobby docket till the new year.
