Hi All,

I didn't want to bog down the Orks tactica thread with this, so I'm starting a new topic on it.

I've seen a few mentions of Eadwoppas Killchoppa in peoples lists- I can't find it in the index, and we haven't a codex yet... Where is it coming from?

If it's this "Chapter Approved" thing, where do I find it?

Sorry but I'm an old-fashioned git who expects to find all the rules in the rulebooks...

Cheers chaps!

proably not worth buying for that though as Orks are getting a codex in a month.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

You still need to buy Chapter Approved if you want to play the game since it has matched play rule changes.

Oh good, so I need to buy the rulebook, another book which has the rules they forgot, and the codex.

Does it include the rules for Custom Battlefortresses, Skullhammas and Mega-Dreads, or are those models of mine still redundant?

I don't know if those models have rules anymore. In order to play 40k you need One or more Indexes, FW Index, Codex, Rulebook, Chapter Approved (with another one coming in december) and all the FAQ and errata for every book (since out of 30+ books only a single book has been printed that didn't need errata. EVEN CHAPTER APPROVED, the errata book, needed errata.)

I have the FW Index Xenos, and it only has Meka-Dreads. I modelled my Mega-Dread with a supa-Skorcha or a KillKannon, Neither of which is an option for the Meka Dread.

I also have a pair of Kustom Battle Fortresses and a Skullhamma (somewhere). all without rules.

8th edition is very much all about "No Model, No Rules". Unless it's a stock GW model you'll find no support for it. Even the Indexes have minimal support for older units that didn't have official models. It's a nasty painful band-aid to rip off but it is what it is. You'll have to live with using a different datasheet with your model (as is permitted by RaW).

Hmm... I guess my looted bastion could somehow represent a kustom stompa... ...ish...

now that guns are basic, can't be removed and don't have any special effects, I guess that a lifta-droppa could be represented by a kannon, or a missile, or lots of smaller guns... ugh. I don't like the new, boring shooting phase. And I haven't even played a game of 8th yet.

Some of that is addressed in the FAQ - https://whc-cdn.games-workshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/imperial_armour_index_xenos-1.pdf.

I suggest taking BCB's advice with a grain of salt. While he is a very reliable source for rules questions, on a lot of other things he seem to take extreme positions just to make a point.

In regard to your questions:
- You do not need the rulebook for regular gaming. The core rules are available for free on the GW homepage, which are all you need for regular games. They are missing matched play rules and detachments, but the former are really few to memorize form a borrowed book and the later are completely unnecessary if you are using a software to generate army lists anyways. Most of my games are just codex+chapter approved. You probably need the FW index for models you want to take from there though.
- Especially considering orks, I would hold off buying any rulebooks right now. CA2017 will be invalidated by the end of the year and the ork codex should arrive before October ends.
- 'eadwhomas killchoppa and the Ork Warlord Trait (+1 strength) can be found in Chapter Approved. Or when generating army lists via Battlescribe.
- The battlefortress can be found in the Imperial Armour Index Xenos FAQ (https://whc-cdn.games-workshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/imperial_armour_index_xenos-1.pdf). As of now, it does not have point values, so cannot be played outside of open play or apocalypse games. If you want to enable it for matched play a good rule of thumb is PL x20 to get a points value.
- The skullhamma is probably best used with one of the kill tank datasheets, kill bursta or kill krusha. (IA Index Xenos/FAQ)
- According to FW, we are supposed to use the Meka-Dread datasheet for mega dreads. Note that the FAQ has added killkannons as an option, but there is no option for a supa-skorcha.
- Note that bastions are unaligned and can be used by any army, including orks. You can find its rules and point costs in Index Imperium 2.

In general, I heavily suggest playing a few games of 8th before judging on it.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

chazpter approved has very little of worth it it to an Ork player, save some minor stuff re matched play you can find out with a quick google search

BCB is just trying to "prove a point"

The main reason to bring CA for me is for the missions inside. They are vastly superior to the missions in the original rulebook.

If missions were available for download, I wouldn't even be bringing CA.
