Recently started listening to this guys podcast. Which are more like 6 hour audio documentaries on very interesting issues. The first episode I listened to was titled - the celtic holocost. Turned out to be one of the best history lessons I've ever had on the subject - with detailed accounts from Caesar himself. I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for something informative to listen to in the car or while working long hours at work. I only wish he had more material! Even at 6 hours a pop I am going to run out of these quick.

I think I've listened to all of his podcasts at least twice. Probably 4 times for the Wrath of the Khans series. His most recent one about the Japanese Empire and its rise I'm in the process of listening to for the second time. He's great at really digging into the details and evoking great images.

For me, its great to listen to while painting/assembling miniatures, much more so than TV, because of needing the visual element in TV. The length is a plus too, because you don't have to fiddle around with picking new episodes or anything.

If you liked "Celtic Holocaust", you should definitely check out History of Rome podcast (Founding to Fall of the Western Empire) and History of Byzantium, Fall of the West to Fall of Constantinople, although that show is only half way there and its seems to have stuck into a lull while the dude focuses on other stuff. Both are great and its hours of history. The downside is that the episodes are 30-40 minutes max, so you'll be listening to the pre and post show adverts alot.

Mike Duncan (host of History of Rome) also recently released "The Storm Before the Storm", which focuses on the era preceding Julius Caesar and how they paved the road to the fall of the Roman Republic. Parts of it are about the barbarian invasions from the Cimbrian/Teuton alliance that was rolling over Roman armies before Marius's Mules, which I think is covered in the Celtic Holocaust. I'm currently listening to that audiobook.

A buddy of mine who trucks has also recommended this series to me. I have heard a few episodes. For sure a good show.

I would also recommend Do Go On, 3 Australian comedians take turns writing reports and giving them while the other 2 riff them. All manner of subjects from famous people and events to mysteries and objects. More light hearted and much shorter episodes but also informative.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Cool! Thanks for the recommendation - just listened to "destroyer of worlds" and now "king of kings". This is really good stuff.

Just a word of warning, some of the older episodes you have to buy at this point, but at 3-4 hours a pop and only a few dollars per episode, it was a no brainer for me. They may be available through other channels for free, but I didn't bother looking to hard so I just bought them.

Prophets of Doom is a good one off episode that I think is still available for free. I was never really interested in Protestant Reformation history and the conflicts that arose, but that episode really got my attention.
