Hello everyone, i have been playing board games for a few years now and after collecting what i think is a decent collection of board games am interested in getting into miniature table top games.
I have already bought Battle of Pelennor Fields starter box and I would appreciate if someone could answer a few questions that i have.

1. What are further essentials i should look into for getting started in this genre? I already have paints and tools needed for assembling miniatures.
2. Which site is the best to read about Middle Earth SBG? Forums, news sites, etc.
3. What are the best places to get miniatures for this game besides GW store?
4. Any recommendations on which faction to start with?
5. Do all factions require around the same amount of investment to get started with ?

(1) Now that you have the starter set, you have everything you need to play through the included scenarios. If you want to try your hand at Matched Play, you will need some more miniatures. Matched Play is where you build a force consisting of Heroes and Warriors. Generally, your force will have 12 Warriors for each Hero (although some Heroes can bring more or less Warriors). You'll need the Armies Book for Matched Play. You should also think about getting some terrain - Dark Age houses, trees, the Osgiliath Ruins kit sould by GW, etc.

(2) The Great British Hobbit League Facebook Group is very good. Also check out www.one-ring.co.uk.

(3) Before last week, everything was direct-only. As GW repackeges stuff, some of it will be available through local game stores and online retailers. Shop around online to see what the best prices are for you, taking into account shipping to your location.

(4) Go with whatever faction/figures you like the most.

(5) It is mostly a matter of what figures you need. Some are made of plastic, some of metal, and some of resin. Metal and resin figures cost a lot more than plastic. Another question is, how many figures: Mordor and Minas Tirith lists can take a lot of miniatures. Those same factions, however, can also take fewer, more elite figures - although they tend to be metal and resin ones. A good combination of elite units available in plastic (so least number of figs need PLUS available in the least expensive material) is Lothlorien.

Manchu offers some solid advice and I agree with all of it. I would also add that you should play the scenarios from the boxed set BEFORE starting to buy anything else, just in case it's not to your liking. If you like one (or more) of the included armies, then you can buy more to add to what comes in the main box (instead of starting from scratch with a whole new army). Ebay has many listings for models from this game; lots are overpriced due to being OOP for so long but there are deals to be had if you are diligent in your search, and know what you want (which will depend on what army or armies you wish to build).
