Here is an Imperial Guard Appendix mentioning the Storm Trooper Commando Force :





I have always wanted to field a formation or a force of Storm Troopers, even though they are traditionally taken as Elite choices in a normal Army;
with the introduction of Militarum Tempestus it was now possible to organize a Formation of Tempestus Scions!

The first generation of Storm Troopers were the " Beret " miniatures; these sculpts are only available in metal but extra Storm Troopers were available in plastic:




Ever since I played " StarCraft " with the " Terran Ghost " i had envisioned units of Ghosts as Special Forces; here are the second generation of Storm Troopers, which were only cast in metal:





The next two colour photos are courtesy of the Stuff Of Legends ; the last image shows the third generation of metal Storm Troopers, the Cadian Kasrkin :

I had already collected most of my Citadel metal Mark 2 Storm Troopers from Games Workshop retail stores; the rest was acquired used on eBay.

Here is a nice little pickup, a Sergeant and couple of Special Weapons; the Seller threw in two free Space Wolf Marines which are free to a good home by the way :

Good old early '90s, the Golden Age of metal miniatures ... first order of business is to super glue the miniatures to the Slottabase :

Time to paint using a very simple and kinda ugly paint scheme ... mostly in greens!

Step 1 : After gluing the metal miniatures to plastic Slottabases with Super Glue, the figures are washed with soapy water and dried before spray priming with Krylon Flat Black :





Step 2 : Basecoat of Dark Angels Green, now called Caliban Green. The first photo is without flash, the second is with flash :






Step 3 : Two colours were applied at this step. First, an Overbrush of Gnarloc Green on the areas that were originally painted Dark Angels Green. Second is a Basecoat of Bugman's Glow on faces :




Step 5 : Basecoat of Iyanden Darksun painted on the uniforms worked very well, I miss the old school Foundation format paints!

Step 6 : Drybrush of Chainmail on mostly weapon areas such as Grenades, Hot-shot Lasguns, and other details.

Step 7 : Bases are painted Scorched Brown, now called Rhinox Hide.



Step 8 : The entire miniature was given a Wash of Devlan Mud, which is now discontinued unfortunately.

At this point the bases were detailed with a custom mix of sawdust grass flock, Woodland Scenics red brick coarse and black cinders medium ballast, and small trees stripped and devoid of cover.

Those Space Wolves would be perfect for some statuary I have planned, Penticton is a fair old hike from Niagara, sadly.

Hello Dysartes and thank you so very much for coming in to check out this P&M Blog and also for the sagely paint advice sir!

Ever since the retirement of Devlan Mud, the replacement of Agrax Earthshade has been a pale shade of a comparison.
The new formulation lacks the viscosity that the earlier paint had, which allowed for a more rich and pigmented wash...

I have tried to make a custom wash, adding two Vallejo colours; Brown Glaze 70.854 and Black Glaze 70.855

I have also purchased an Army Painter product called Quickshade available in a 250 mL tin, in Dark Tone.
However i found out after using their product that it is an oil-based shading and varnishing product in one, wich a Gloss Finish.

While it is a durable and useful product, I really did not like the Quickshade as you have to use a thinner such as Mineral turpentine or White Spirits to clean your brushes.
Ultimately i only use Quickshade on the Bases of my miniatures, particularly to achieve a wet, muddy look.

Hmm - if you're looking at Army Painter products, try the Dark Tone in a standard dropper bottle. The stuff in the tins is the "dip" version, which is closer to a wood varnish (from memory) - the stuff in the dropper bottles is a wash or ink with a similar colour, but not with the built-in varnish.

And that's a lot of the 3rd ed Stormtroopers, dude - no wonder I can't find any at a decent price on eBay at present to bulk out my own platoon

Luckily i am 44 and got into the hobby early enough that I amassed three units of nine ( 9 ) Storm Troopers for three Elite choices; first photo is a Front View.





Second photo is a Top View of the three Elitie choices with reinforcements and at this point i decided to expand to a fourth squad; right below them are Steel Legion Heavy Bolter HWT's.






Ebay acquisitions were made between 2012 - 2014 to bolster this number to a total of four units of ten ( 10 ) Storm Trooper units!

I had no idea the Dark Tone is available in a dropper bottle. I am curious, as is Strong Tone also available in a dropper bottle as well ?
In my honest opinion, I prefer open-top containers such as the original screw-off Ral Partha paints;
Flip top lids, while convenient, have proven to "lose" product through the paint dripping down the lid and forming a solid mass over time.



With the new release of Militarum Tempestus and even the ability to run Grenadiers Doctrine meant having lots of Storm Troopers came in handy!
I do agree with you whole-heartedly in that the low supply and thus high demand for metal Storm Troopers has led to exorbitant prices; i have seen Plasma Gun Kasrkin for USD $ 50 ...

As to answering your question about the conversion of an in-theme Tempestor Prime, alas ultimately I am quite the lazy modeller and when it comes to converting, I only do so when reasonably motivated.
Luckily, developing the Storm Trooper Commando Force was one of these occasions as I even made a Kasrkin Medic using the Imperial Guard Cadian Command Squad plastic rebreather bits!





The foundation of my Tempestus Scions Command Squad and Tempestor Prime came from some Citadel metal miniatures, the Cadian Kasrkin.





For some reason I had collected a Sergeant and three Special Weapons, but no other Kasrkin, so i was even considering selling these miniatures at one point !





The motivation for my new Tempestus Scions Command Squad paint scheme was born when I saw the movie "District 9" directed by Peter Jackson, replete with a para-military organization, the MNU :







The Tempestus Prime has the Power Sword removed and is awaiting the addition of a plastic Power Maul from a Genestealer Cults Neophyte left arm :





Here is my Tempestus Scions Command Squad with custom Medic conversion, painted in MNU colour scheme and ready to deploy from a suitable Deep Strike capable Flyer :

While i do have a Flyer Detachment, out of the total of four Flyers there are only two with Transport capabilities; a Vendetta and a Valkyrie.
I do have a second Valkyrie, however it is still in the box and un-built, along with a new, un-used resin Vendetta Conversion Kit.

I am planning to build this as a magnetized Valkyrie so that it has the option to upgrade to a Vendetta, resulting in three Flyers with Transport ability;
a Vendetta gunship with glued-on upgrades, a magnetized Valkyrie with Vendetta upgrade option, and a Valkyrie.

As i was reading the Tempestus Scions Codex, i came across two Formations in which the Scions can use Transports; Flyers or Taurox Prime APC's.

I decided to go with the Taurox Prime formation for several reasons; although the idea of an army that could deploy by air was thrilling,
the reality of price and transportation were the two key factors. While we all know that Games Workshop plastic kits are not cheap, the Valkyrie assault carrier
retails at CAD $ 80, coupled with the need for custom transportation to get Flyer models such as KR Multicase and BattleFoam makes it daunting.

So, i decided on transporting my Storm Troopers in ... metal bawkses.
But i wanted to build custom Taurox Prime in the same theme as my Steel Legion army: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/756076.page

The concept / fluff for my Steel Legion army was the French Foreign Legion, or FFL, or Légion étrangère during the French Indochina War during the 1950's.
The FFL used the concept of a " Groupe Mobile " or " G.M. " that they employed the discipline of Combined Arms; infantry, armour, and heavy weapons worked in a single unit.

However, during conflicts for colonial Vietnam culminating in the battle of Dien Bien Phu, the FFL special forces and paratroopers were severely depleted; as a result,
I have modeled my Steel Legion army to have " beret " style Storm Troopers in the Command Squads while the newer Mark 2 Storm Trooper armour came in as reinforcements.
The older Mark 1 " beret " Storm Troopers represent the Savlar regiment that was mauled attempting to escape Hive Infernus, with Hive Gangers in the Command Squad as indigenous support.






The vehicles for the Storm Troopers would be based on the M8 Greyhound armoured personnel carrier : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M8_Greyhound

Back in the summer of 2017, i came across a Dakka Swap Shop thread in which there was a Chapterhouse Studios - Wheeled Chimera Kit for sale from Kawauso.
He was selling two of these kits so I purchased them together; fortunately the seller was also located in the same country of Canada so i snapped them both up.

After doing some Google searches and finding out that while the Product is no longer available, other modelers had them for their Imperial Guard armies.

I loved the detail and the unique resin kit was the first wheeled Chimera kit that had been commercially available, so i wasn't sure what to do with them...

While I have not seen the Zinge Industries items before (thanks for sharing), the Chapterhouse Studios Wheeled Chimera kits have been used in our gaming group by a player with a Cult army. He wanted a different Planetary Defense Force look for his human members. Quite a nice look, while still feeling like it is part of the 40K universe.

I vaguely remember that title as I was born in 1974 and very interested in dark-themed fantasy and science fiction throughout my childhood years;
feature films such as "Damnation Alley", the "Mad Max" movie series (especially the Road Warrior) and original "Planet Of The Apes" were particularly vivid.

The Storm Trooper Command Squad is being run as an Astra Militarum Company Command Squad in my Savlar 2/317e unit ;
two plasma gun armed Storm Troopers and a Heavy Weapons Team with Heavy Bolter completed the Command Squad.





In my quest to complete a Command Squad composed of metal miniatures, I finally hunted down a Storm Trooper Sergeant!

Although the gunner for the HWT is a Storm Trooper HB Loader, the heavy weapon is crewed by a House Orlock ganger!

He's my custom Vindicare assassin, painted to look like the Marvel Comics character "Deadpool"

I had acquired a few Citadel Miniatures metal Imperial Assassins, here are the catalog pages courtesy Stuff Of Legends :







My first attempt at conversion was simple, I took the "Vindicare Assassin 1" and repositioned the Exitus Pistol so he looked like he was actually shooting with it.

The first photo is taken before painting details such as his holster and harness :






As for the red & black "Deadpool" Vindicare conversion, all i did was provide a Bolt Gun; however to get the body suit colour i used a comic cover :












I also used artistic inspiration when working on a Culexus Assassin; the movie "Chronicles Of Riddick" featured the "Necromonger Lensor" :

I have an Eversor Assassin, however his right arm was damaged and his Sensor Backpack was lost ...
Using the metal arm from an Eldar Striking Scorpion, his right arm was repaired and rearmed with Executioner Pistol :
