One Canoptek Scarab in a Swarm

So, being a big fan of Warhammer 40K when I was 8-12 years old and been out of the interest for quite a long time, I was glad to see Warhammer still around and especially in Shanghai! So far I've got myself a Necron set and got my wife to go for the Dark Eldars and we are having a great time painting our models.

But I feel I need to know, how well Warhammer is doing here in China. The staff have told me they have 4 stores around the city to which I have visited 3 of them. And I have to honest, they aren't in the greatest of locations, but more importantly, I never see anyone in them. One of them I visited, had the doors locked, in which the neighbours nearby called the guy that he had a customer and opened the door, red flag there.

What I am really asking for is information about how long Warhammer has been in Shanghai, how well the business doing, and whether they are planning to stay here in the long term.

lol, some Chinese store are like that, they don't keep a staff opening it, usually they sell through online.

I have to say, that is a big surprise to me, GW product related stores that's not recasters. best of luck finding opponents!

When I was over there, I found that it was pretty easy to buy models, but not as many places to play. There were a few Taobao stores that sold stuff at pretty decent prices in addition to the GW stores.

It's funny because Shanghai is the best place for GW to grow the game in China. It has the population, and there are enough people with the disposable income to play there.

When I was in Beijing 10 years back there were 2 or 3 shops selling GW stuff and a small community of players. The Shanghai shop opened soon after. There's also a good community in HK.

Basically the game will appeal to a small small niche within a niche of internationalized English-speaking wealthy Chinese but in mega cities like Shanghai and Beijing that's still a good number.

there's also crazy expats like me who travel with armies...
