The UK, like the rest of Europe, incorporates a VAT tax into their pricing. Non-UK/EU tourists don't have to pay that tax but opting out is apparently optional and at the shop owner's discretion. So, does Games Workshop and/or Forge World participate in the VAT refund scheme for those visiting their shops in the UK?

My guess would be no as the only places I know that advertise having 407 forms available are tourist trap places selling expensive stuff like kilts, perfume, handbags etc

but if you are coming over and plan to buy enough stuff to make the hassle worth it I'd email GW direct to find out

(and potentially prime the store you plan to shop at as even if the forms are theoretically available I suspect it's the sort of thing that would be done sufficiently irregularly that they might not understand what you were talking about without research)

You can just fill out the paperwork at the airport on the way home. Just keep the receipt and single transactions have to be over a certain amount. Drop off the forms at the airport and you'll get a check in the mail

Make sure you ask for an itemised receipt with a VAT number.

Your cardholder copy of receipt probably won't do.

I'm sure you can contact customer services and they'd be able to work out the VAT number of the relevant store you bought from?

Not a shop I've bought from. I'm considering an upcoming trip and want to get educated before I head over. Assumptions can sour an otherwise good vacation.

Just as an FYI, GW will only have one VAT number, they're issued to a company not a store.

The U.K. number for GW is GB 580 8534 21

While the main page at games-workshop.com doesn't seem to list the VAT number, it is on the Forge World site, down at the bottom amongst the copyright bumf:

If its at GWs discretion I'd expect the answer is no.

I'm also not sure if completing the paperwork and handing it in at the airport will make any difference if GW can just turn around and claim not to be participating.

I'm currently in the US now, is there an equivalent scheme for me as a British citizen over here?

I'm not too familiar with the whole VAT thing, but is it possible to fill out a VAT 407 for an online purchase?

Sales tax in the United States isn’t a federal tax but a state (and local entity like ‘city’) tax. It is generally not refundable.
