I'm working on the Space marine statue for my Armies on Parade display and wanted some opinions on how to paint it.

Full disclosure: I've never painted marble. Would be interested in trying, but only have until October to finish this
I've painted bronze and oxidize copper before, and find that pretty easy. But check this out I found online:

I'm leaning really heavily towards a cream-colored stone for the base as it matches other parts of my display:
