Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

Not do long ago, the wife of my First Cousin Twice Removed had died and, leaving no heir, my FCTRs personal affects were passed on to my family including his war medals and an unusual sash.

Not much is known about my FCTR except that he got involved in a riot in the 30s, travelled to Australia to escape the law, joined the army during the Second World War a couple of times and that after the war he joined the Free Masons. I say that's what we know but that's just what the neighbours of the wife of my FCTR say they told her and what my Grandad new of him before the war.

Now back to the sash. We think it's something to do with his Freemasonry but I can't find anything similar on the internet, so I thought I might ask here hoping there might be one of two Mason adepts or someone else who could point out it's nothing to do with the Masons.

Cheers.

Somewhere in south-central England.

The easiest thing to do would be to ask your local Masons about it.

They are trying to be more open these days and probably would be happy to look at the sash and tell you about it.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Do you know what army regiment(s) he was with? Even where he joined up might help narrow it down, if he was in the infantry or an armoured unit which frequently recruited geographically. Those look reminiscent of army cap badges to me, the first one looks very similar to the Coldstream Guards. Also the tasselled symbols look quite similar to the flaming bomb symbols worn by Royal Engineers.

No, I know that, it just looked slightly reminiscent of the bomb symbol from a RE Officer's cap-badge to me. In the same way I don't believe the star with the cross in the middle actually is Coldstream Guards since it lacks the writing around the inner circle, but IMO it looks very similar. It might be nothing to do with it, but it just seemed another possibility when it comes to researching the origins of the piece, especially with so many Army units having been disbanded or amalgamated since the second world war. However I know nowhere near enough about mid 20th century British and Commonwealth army cap-badges to offer any more than that.
