Looking at what to get next for my DKOK army and was just wondering exactly how allies work since Ive never thought about it.
The only rule ive heard about is that all units must share at least one faction keyword, but is this really all there is to it?

Can a detachment, for example, contain both units from the DKOK index as well as units from the IG codex? Just to be clear, I dont want to mix regiments but im not too eager to spend twice the money for the DKOK fancy leman russes, I also want some sentinels and ogryns in the mix sooner or later.

So is it more or less open to anything as long as they share a faction keyword or am I missing something?

So there is a main rule that all models in your army must share a keyword, you've got that already.

There is a beta rule called Battle Brothers too, which will probably be made official in the upcoming FAQ. That says that each detachment in your army must share a keyword too, and that Keyword cannot be IMPERIUM (or CHAOS, AELDARI, or TYRANID).

For your example that is ok, because Krieg other Guardsmen share the ASTRA MILITARUM keyword. So yes, what you propose is legal.

However: if a detachment is not purely one regiment, you will lose your regimental doctrine. So it's generally a pretty bad idea!

Ah ok tnx, so best to make sure I follow the beta rules then if they are likely to become official! DKOK doesnt have any regimental doctrines though so on that end I lose nothing, and I wasnt planning on using any other regiments. It will all be DKOK!

Uuuuh no...What beta rule means is that all units in DETACHMENT needs to share keyword apart from the excluded one. Different detachments however can share one of the mentioned keywords. Otherwise you couldn't have BA+knight+IG combo for example.

What beta rule did stop is supreme command detachment with slamquinus, the sisters of battle SC and some other HQ combo for example.

So basically ARMY needs to share one keyword minimum and units within single detachment must share keyword that isn't IMPERIUM etc.

You still need to know the rules especially as BS has errors. It also does not seem to catch situation the beta ally rule was prevented to stop so if you don't know how the rule works...

As it is according to BS you can have army of orks and necrons together.
