Well folks, it's time for another Antimatter Games kickstarter! With Alpharius MIA it looks like it's up to me to carry on the torch!

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/524168246/the-stygian-depths-lost-temple-of-xibalba/description

This campaign is for a couple of new things- they are attempting to get the Stygian Depths updated and funded. This was originally a supplement book, but now it's a full blown dungeon crawl with random tile draws, environmental hazards, enemy AI and boss battles, all of which is going to be included.

There's also going to be two new starter sets, one for each setting. You get two starter warbands of 3 figures each (A personality, a brute, and a trooper), rules, counters, and wild animal miniatures that haven't gotten shown off yet.

The Deep War set, Fortune Hunters versus Dark Mariners:

The ShadowSea set, Axibalan Empire vs Draconid Legion:

PLUS... there's a new additional narrative campaign starring Grace Flynn, a crossover character and her crew (also available as a new starter warband) as they fight their way through the ShadowSea. It's being designed as a solo/ co-op campaign.

One of the cool things about the Antimatter Games Kickstarters is they're very flexible with the pledge level rewards, allowing you to swap out what's included for points that you can then use on whatever else you're interested in. Plus stretch goals often reward backers with more bonus points to pick new figures which is always appreciated.

Of note is they're offering up a polyurethane board section to play on. It's not something you can swap to get with points, but if there's enough interest they'll be offering up more. This piece is 18" x 18" and there's better photos available through the KS page.

Also, stretch goals are starting off pretty crazy!

So check it out! To me this is what Kickstarter is all about- smaller companies developing new material that they wouldn't necessarily be able to produce as quickly otherwise. Plus the game is pretty unique and easy to play, while allowing a lot of flexibility in terms of the kinds of figures you use or where the game takes your narrative.

It seems like the Obliterator Biomech is resin, but I'm not sure how I would purchase it by itself. I'll have to keep an eye on this project.

Obliterator will more than likely be resin. Just about all the Biomechs are if I remember correctly.

Also worth pointing out is the overwhelming majority of both lines have scenic base toppers included with them so there's no need for having to really worry about making up fancy base designs for these figures.

Supposedly there will be an option later on to get the figures from the new starter sets individually.

Another fun fact about Biomechs is that most of them are cross compatible across both games, as they're naturally amphibious or equipped to deal with both land battles as well as deep pressure underwater fights.

I foolishly sold my Antimatter minis a while back, so I've been hoping for a Kickstarter to get back into the range.

But thanks to those solo play dungeon crawl supplements, what was going to be a pledge for a couple box sets has quickly become a Gamemaster one.

Those Game Master pledges always end up being a good deal. I've always felt like I got my money's worth in terms of quality and quantity of figures at the end of every Antimatter campaign.

I just want to see more people checking it out! It's a cool system, easy to play, and got pretty interesting and varied looking figures.

Same here!

Glad to see another Antimatter Games campaign - DeepWars is a blast to play, the miniatures are great, and I suspect ShadowSea and this new game will also be a lot of fun.

Plus, I do love to support 'the little guys' in this hobby too.

Wins all around!

Good to see the new kickstarter has arrived, I love this setting. Backed for a new boxed game which I will convert into 10 points (I have the rule already).

There is an update:

We're doing great so far, more than half way there! To keep interest high, we have added some new items to the rewards. The image here shows some of the models from the starter set now available individually. In addition, we have a new Giant Ortocone, sculpted by Bart Van Kerckhoveā€ˇ. This massive predator acts as a Wild Sea Creature, hunting weak and injured models, and can be summoned by a Sea Shaman to fight for a warband.

Just picked up some Deep Wars recently, love the minis and the theme. I may have to back this to grab a starter for friends. Thanks for posting.

Update on the Stygian Depths:

We have been working on the Stygian Depths for many months now and have completed all of the Rooms, Lairs and Quest Chambers. Here are some overview descriptions of each of these types of floor tiles.

Rooms are 6"x6" card tiles that are double-sided and have two variants of one main room type. The room variants can have one to two entrances and differences in the layout, some with extra flooding, lighting, and placement of deadly scenery. Players draw tarot-sized cards from the Dungeon deck that have information about the rooms and the die roll to randomly choose the variant and what occurs in the room. The rooms were designed based in part upon the ancient Aztec legends of Xibalba, their underworld, and the "houses" found there with trials for those that visited the city of the underworld. In the game, each room has some sort of dangerous environment and can have events, ambushes or encounters. Corridors connect the rooms and are generally less dangerous, except some are filled with traps or can have ambushes or encounters.

Here are the main Room designs.

Lairs are like Rooms in that they are 6"x6" card tiles that are double-sided and have two variants. They differ in that they are the location for a specific encounter type. They are often where the serpents of the Stygian Depths have experimented with dimensional magic and have summoned demons from dimensions of fire, ice, darkness and other realms. Some are just where wild creatures have taken up residence.

Here are the main Lair designs.

Quest Chambers are the final location of the map, where a scenario reaches its finale. The entrance card to the Quest Chamber is part of the Dungeon Deck. Quest Chambers have their own descriptions in the rulebook and include a Boss enemy and often other enemies, making the battle challenging. Finishing one Quest unlocks the next one, with each Quest getting progressivly harder with more random events occurring during the battles.

Here are the Quest Chamber designs

One caveat about those tiles that I asked about and people should be aware- they aren't going to be cardboard.

They're the same cardstock/ thickness as what the current cards are being printed on.

For some that might be an issue, others might not be bothered by it. Perhaps an upgrade could lie in the stretch goals for them?
On the other hand, that would jack up shipping prices considerably.

Also, these preview sketches showed up on the Facebook group, so I figure I'll repost them here for all to see...

Both are supposed to be summons that the snakemen, who are so far conspicuously absent so far...

Good thing I've got a bunch of old Relic Knights Noh, Reaper Nagendra and Darklands Khthonian snakes in the meantime!

That would be the: Adventurer (US$ 95) - You get The softcover Stygian Depths book, floor tiles and cards, one Warband Starter Set (4 models) of your choice and the softcover Grace Flynn book. It also comes with the PDF files for the all of the books above as well as the full ShadowSea rulebook and the Painting Scaly Beasts painting guide.

There absense does seem strange given that they are presumably central to the stygian depths (or at least that is what the name suggests, and they were central in the first edition). Hopefully they will be a forthcoming stretchgoal.

Worry not, snakes will be upon us soon enough, and the dragon has been unlocked for those that are interested in it.

Along with the finalized art for one of those summonable demons.

We also had an interim stretch goal pop up that actually will unlock in a couple hundred dollars-

Don't forget previous backers get an extra bonus point or two, and everyone gets more bonus points once the campaign has 100 backers (which is give or take 15 more people at the moment). One point is enough to get you an extra model, so it's in everyone's best interest to pledge now if you're interested.

There's a new pledge level available as well for just the printed materials if you've got an extensive Antimatter collection.

you can just do the base pledge and put down $35 instead of $10. Unfortunately the tiles come with all the cards needed for the game so you can't just get the tiles by themselves.

The snakeman demonologist looks like he could be a nice ophidian wizard for confrontation. I hope he get unlocked.

Are the sculpts usualy close to the artworks though ? Due to other KS I'm now wary of backing minis that I only see a drawing/render of.

Generally Antimatter stuff is pretty close to the concept art with only usually slight pose changes.. They've got several examples of new sculpts next to the box art/concept art on the KSer page as you scroll down.

Scaled things are their specialty and the company owner, Eric, is really good at sculpting them even if he doesn't do all of them their always quite good.

Agreed!

The only time the concept art to mini thing ends up being slightly (and only slightly!) disappointing is when it comes to the 'regular' Humans.

Stretch goals have been reordered and been brought closer. Only about $150 to the snakemen and another $1000 to the Snakeman Demonologist.

There are loads of new stretch goals which have not yet been posted (or the links to the pictures already posted seem to have been broken). I want that tentacle lobster thing!

This stretch goal is for the largest of the demons that guard the Stygian Depths, the mighty Onigor. These huge demons command the other minions and relish taking trophies from the bodies of the temple invaders. This model will be cast in resin, around 50mm tall, on a 40mm base.

The next stretch goal is a miniature for Deepwars, Grace Flynn in a dive suit. She will be a resin miniature, around 32mm tall, on a 30 mm base.

Up next is the Bakemon Demon, a cruel minion of the Stygian Depths. This model will be cast in resin, around 32mm tall, on a 30mm base.

The next stretch goal is for the boss for the Temple of Blood Quest chamber, the Elder Ethereal Gothagga. These entities move through different dimensions and are summoned by ethermancers. This model will be cast in resin, around 100mm tall.

The next stretch goal is for Xathal, the boss for the Quest Chamber, A Bridge Too Far. This ethereal monstrosity can be summoned by ethermancers in DeepWars or ShadowSea. This model will be cast in resin and will be around 50mm wide.

Up next is a Cyclops from the Grace Flynn adventure. This is a wild creature of the Skeleton Coast of the Shadow Sea and can sometimes be found in the Stygian Depths. This model will be cast in resin and will be around 90mm tall.

We're probably not going to unlock all of these awesome stretch goals during the campaign, which is a shame, as I really do want all of them.

Maybe we'll get them unlocked in the post-campaign 'Pitch In' period, or maybe they'll just been made available sooner rather than later anyway.

I certainly hope so!

I figure if I can get some more stuff sold on eBay that I'm willing to part with, I'll go in pretty deep.

The deeper you go in Deep Wars the better the rewards tend to be!

Two new stretch goals added and unlocked:

"We have just unlocked two more stretch goals, the massive Elder Sea Dragon and the Giant Eurypterid. The Sea Dragon is meant for DeepWars but since it is Amphibious is may just show up in the Abyssal Realms as a mega-boss. It would get it's own special Quest Chamber, big enough to hold it and collapsed on one end so it connects to the sea. The Eurypterid is a boss monsters and is a huge version of the ones that prowl the shallow shelf in the Shadow Sea, hunting down warbands in Deepwars. It is also Amphibious."

The sea dragon is tempting...

That sea dragon totally reminds me of Lagiacrus from the Monster Hunter series in all the right ways.

Obviously they aren't the same, and I'm not even sure if it's inspired by it, but the colors and style are close enough for me.

I'm going to have to make some tough choices as to what to get this time around as there are so many point heavy choices this campaign.
