With the main focus being the Indomitus Crusade and the Plague War, I can understand why some alien factions get shafted for the time being. However, the Necron seems rather unappreciated by GW, despite there being an upcoming video game about them fighting against the Mechanicus.

Old fluff, Necrons were launching a campaign of galactic genocide and took part extensively in the 13th Black Crusade. New fluff, they are either awakening or fighting each other. I believe Damnos was the last time they ever being depicted as a threat to the whole galaxy. Minimizing the Necron's involvement in the 13th Black Crusade to Tranzyn meddling is incomprehensible to me, considering this was also the case in the Shield of Baal campaign. Instead of Necron launching an entire legion against Chaos and Tyranids, they just stay at the back and try to influence the Imperium (you know, like the Eldar should?). What, so Necron can't ally with the Imperium on equal terms like the Eldar? Is Tranzyn the only Necron Overlord in 40k worth writing about?

With the Indomitus Crusade going about, there is little mention of the Necron. They are said to be closing on the Tau's border, but we have Tau vs Death Guards instead. Even the 8th edition Necron Codex doesn't change their status quo (at least it doesn't make it feel like it).

So what direction do you want with the Necrons? Imperial ally? Conquering the Tau Empire while they are too busy fending off the Death Guards? Or a C'tan being fully restored and triggering another civil war between those who want to worship it and those who want to destroy it?

The cicatrix maledictum ripping the galaxy in half means that whatever happens, it shouldn't be 'Status Quo'.

Imotekh's position as the most powerful phaeron means he should probably be leading their attempts to 'do something' but I'm not sure what the 'do something' is.

the original plan - the Great Work of sealing off the warp, pylons and all, is clearly buggered beyond recovery but no alternate plan has been mentioned.

I thought their drive was going to be the black stone stuff that forge bane was all about and seems to be mentioned everywhere?

It pretty much is, which puts the necrons in direct compeition with the IoM at the highest level.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

And it annoys the eldar too. So all good. Plots ahoy.

I only know two people who play Necrons but both of them will tell you less is more where Necron fluff is concerned - they like that the Necrons have a general history of absolute ownership of the galaxy but are otherwise faceless, unreadable and non-negotiable.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

I like my Necrons to have a personality (the HQ choices, at least) but I do definitely agree on the "non-negotiable" bit. This is a faction that considers the Eldar to be little babies - they're certainly not going to treat the Imperium with any serious thought beyond cleaning up their intrusion and possible enslavement.

on the forum. Obviously

Yeah, I really don't like how chatty the new necrons seem to be towards non-necrons. At worse they should see everything that's not necron as an infestation that should be exterminated. At best they'll see them as pets and novelties.

Necrons just don't feel like necrons to me. They don't feel like an ancient race of hostile alien machines, but metal humans, complete with moving mouths.
A lot of people complained about how necrons had no personality before, but really, what did they expect necrons to do with humans? Invite them to dinner? Would you invite cockroaches over? But of course, GW heard them and went to the other extreme and made them honor bound space Egyptians who treat lesser races with honor and form alliances for some reason.

It all depends on what "treat them with honor" means, really. "As our code dictates, you receive one month's warning to surrender before we exterminate you" is the kind of thing I approve of personally, since it shows how dismissive Necrons are to their "rivals" in the galaxy. Any actual parlaying with the humans should be left to Zandrekh since he's supposed to be insane (and it gives Obyron plenty of opportunity to show the other races how Necrons really operate).

Fair enough, I can see the reasoning behind that. Giving a month's warning before planetary annihilation does sound like something a bunch of antagonistic machines would do if they were trying to be polite.

Commence extermination.
Sir, the infestation appears to be sentient!
Then record the extermination for the archives.
