Undercoated in ad mech grey. Starting to look complete. Need some crew, some shells and maybe build a comms unit on each platform.

looks like a few rivets, or cables on the legs would go a long way if I'm honest, they are just a bit too flat.

the concept is good they sizes look spot on, they just need something - you may be able to do it with paint and weathering to break the surfaces up a bit though.

same with the vehicles, the flat slab sides just look wrong given the details on the chassis.

doesn't need much on them, bit of plastic strip on the corners maybe?

I agree ! You have the shape down really well, but both projects could do with rivets and details to make them looked finished !

Thanks for the input guys. I did try rivits on one of the Armageddon ones and the result were more chaos spikes than just rivits regardless of the amount cutting and filling (used thin rod cut to tiny lengths). Which is why I’ve not tried it since. Might see about ready made stuff or a different technique.

Yeah, cabling or or other detail on the legs would work, need to raid the bitz box to come up with some ideas.

If you use thin plastic rod, once the glue is dry gently melt the end with a lighter, this will dome them nicely.

Or use these , it's way easier !

To add to what others have said on the basilisks, if you can add some rungs on one side for crew to climb on top. Try and get them in the same place on each tank to give a more unitform appearance.

The basilisk platforms are looking good! Keep it up you're off to a good start with scratch building.

Just ordered both 1mm and 2mm of those beads. £3 for 2.5k of beads will keep me going.

Yea, adding details like rungs and antenna would be good. Just didn’t want to plaster them in extras and make them look tacky.

Looking at adding a small data console (bit like what’s in the back of a rhino) but would need to be smaller as it woul try and tuck into the side. Any ideas for where I can get something like that?

thesupremeauthority,

One quick way to do a lot of rivets is extremely thin plastic card and then using a thread punch to make rivet marks (thread punch is like a little round spiked wheel on the end of a handle). Just lay out your thin plastic card sheet and have a metal straight edge, lay that down and roll the thread punch along beside the straight edge. The indentations it makes on the other side look like a line of rivet heads. Then glue the plastic sheet onto the sides of your mount. Hundreds of rivets in a few minutes instead of hours.

Hope that helps,

CB

Rivets, cabling... yes.
But i suggest a few more greeblies. And if it is just small rectangular pieces of cardboard (armor plates, maintenance hatches), grids (for safely stepping) and the like.

So far, both the earthshaker platforms and the basilisks are very solid looking basic shapes.

I do my rivets with a tiny hole punch (0,7 mm) ordered from china via eBay (but i'm struggling with material and thickness).

Just put some rivits on just it give me an idea of how it looks. Might put some extra panels/armour on as well.

I’ll stick some extras on, once I’ve redone the rear door/ hatch as I’ve remembered that the original didn’t have just a flat back. So that get done plus putting in a proper cupola.

Personally I wish the Imperium would learn to weld , but those rivets have made a world of difference in my opinion!

Thanks, glad you suggested those beads. Made life a lot easier and the different sized rivits give some variation.

Just had the idea of a little crane to help load shells onto the platform, along with a computer for targeting/orders.

No dramas mate, I got the idea of someone on dakka years ago after suffering the same problem and haven't looked back since !

Interested to see what you come up with !

Much better!
And you actually plan trying plates as well? I look forward to the result.

Mostly on the Armageddon one, as I think it would look similar to the plating on a shadowsword turret

Im glad rivits were suggested as they do make the model look so much nicer

Been a while, just a bit of an update. Finished one with rivets and halfway through the other. Still need to think of where to get a small computer terminal from.

Sorry about the potato photos, using an old phone while my current one is getting fixed

This would be the sort of computer I'd be looking at putting on the platform, but I'm struggling at funding any thing like this. Any suggestions would be appreciated
Thanks

TTCombat do a nice set of resin control panels. You could add 1 or 2 to a suitably sized rectangular thingy.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Alternatively, if you trim off the extraneous gubbinz off a.Guard vox set then you could paint that up as a pretty good control panel. Mount it on a slightly bigger something, or use a couple of bits of sprue as.mounting brackets to bring it up to standing person height. Does the Imperium have an equivalent to Display Screen Equipment regulations? Ah allnthe possibilities of the grimdark Health and Safety Executive...
