It would seem that Grey Hunters have been buffed.

I've tried many variations of CC and Vehicles, but not Plasma wielding Power Armor spam...

How competitive are Grey Hunters now?

Please and thank you, I am trying to stay in 40k, I won't play a game that simply requires me to play a select few options of armies, sigh

Grey Hunters are possibly the best MEQ Troop unit in the game thanks to 2 attacks that hit on a 2+ in the first rouns and the ability to double down on special weapons.

Plasma spam is the best build but melta is quite good too in Transports.

Melta is bad please don't listen to the above post. 2 Plasma Guns, Plasma Pistol, and Combi-Plasma and Outflank them.

If they hop out of a transport, it's essentially 3 lascannons at close range. It's a nice option, stop being a meme. They've got 2 attacks each to take care of smaller stuff as well.

It isn't bad to think of, and definitely I appreciate the input!

Be in Rapid Range, then shoot awesomely then Charge or whatnot. 2+ save if cover anywhere around. Shenanigans (not sure if worth) could grant cover in open, then buff the cover save, then give them the new Rune Priest trick, -1 to hit *cough* for 3 CP.

Wolf Preist for CC and Balms?

10 man comes with their 8 Bolters (16 shots w/o buffs: 2MEQ)
2 Plasma Rifles & Pistol (5 shots: 2MEQ)
(+ The ever mighty Grenade)

Free Chainswords, gr8 LD sv.
Now w/ new Codex bennies...

Perhaps some Startegem spam to have them drop in, 1CP isn't terrible for a squad like that.

Stormwolves are definitely competitive, and give you good drops. Them, with a biker libby, can render your whole army -2 to hit and 2+ on your opening turn.

Melta Guns are bad for the price. It isn't a meme.

My typical wolf list involves 3 squads of 10 hunters, 2 plasma guns, a combi plasma, and a plasma pistol. 1 outflank them and dragongaze, use the rest of the army to clear a spot for them to come in, then drop them in and let them lose. Always incredibly effective and makes my opponents rethink their deployment which means your already setting the tone of the game from the first unit drop. Yes its expensive points and cp wise, but the effectiveness can not be denied.

As for plasma vs melta, plasma all the way. 3 shots from melta will get 2 hits normally, vs t8 thats 1 wound, and if it goes through average is 3.5 dmg. Using the same, quick dirty mathhammer Plasma is 6 shots, 4 hits, 2 go through average is 4 dmg. They are just better. Melta has to get within 6" to overcome the odds and really thats dangerously close and likely to backfire on you. Stay safe, stay at 12".

Plasma drops are easy, and with that loadout you're looking at 7 S8 shots, potential 14 damage with great AP

Next questionz then -

- is there a thing as too much GH/Plasma?
- is there a necessary component to ensure these guys are released like bats from hell?
- can they simply swarm up if needed to blanket all in cc, without further aid from 'specialists'?

Plasma is point for point stronger than melta, it isnt even an arguement.

Wolf priest is a waste. Healing balms don't work on 1w models and they hit on 2+ in melee already. WP are good for Wulfen or TWC with hammers. Rather take a wolf Lord for the sweet re-roll.

Wolf Priests are a bit of a waste for Grey Hunters especially since you can grab a Wolf Lord with a Jump Pack for less than a hundred points.
Re-roll 1s in shooting!
On overwatch!
In melee!
Grab him a Power Maul for an even hundred and you have quite the force.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.
